Hey man, interesting video, thanks. I agree with everything you said. If one wanted to extend the discussion, I'd also mention the key of A in standard tuning. Especially in a blues sound kind of context, mixing a minor and major, A is a really nice key as well. Of course there's many good chord shapes for A major and minor keys and I'd kind of consider all the open strings of standard tuning EADGBE a flat 7 chord of A then and also I find that the A string often times has a stronger resonance than low E on regular shaped acoustic guitars (of course there's exceptions like Ovation-type, etc). So for solo guitar without a base player, I find the 5th string is very sometimes very suitable as a root note, which also makes tunings like Open G interesting. And yeah, in other styles of music such as pop/rock sometimes songs have a suspended sound as their home chord for example, which can allow for some other keys to sound full and "open" in standard, or DADGAD itself has that sound too, obviously.
Thanks for that! Helpful seeing those DADGAD chords as well. With drop D, it can be a nice change to have the low D as root, and the high E string as the 9th, ringing out. The 2nd string as B can be interesting because D minor should have Bb in it, but Dorian mode has that raised 6th- which I love for a mystical forest kind of vibe. (I mean, I grew up listening to Japanese composers use Celtic themes to make fantasy video game music.) Not saying the 9th or the raised 6th would be advantageous to strumming styles- haven't tried it with true Celtic tunes yet. Appreciate your listing some notable guitar players, too!

I used to slow down to Talisk videos so I could see your hands (learned a great shape from the Ballyhoura video). Loving that you’re doing these!
Ah that’s amazing, appreciate it!
