I just came back from Iceland 2 weeks ago & had this with lamb sandwiches for the first time & fell in love! Each time I go back I get another addiction to Icelandic food I need to feed. Thank you for the recipe I'm going to try that this weekend.
When I lived in Germany a neighbor used to make this bread and serve it for breakfast along side a huge platter of sliced deli meats and cheese. You have sparked my interest to try it with some smoked salmon! Thank you for sharing your video!
Rachel Williams Hope you also will like this. I really like rye, however, you can make it with white all-purpose flour. Nice to be in contact with you.
We love rye also. While living in Germany we developed a taste for Black Russian Rye Bread. They served it with cream cheese or a meat spread but I forgot the name at the moment. Sometimes I go to the European Market here in North Carolina and buy the meat spread but I buy the Black Rye Bread already made. I love to cook from scratch because then you know exactly what is in your food.
Rachel Williams Yes, I also love ryebread. I made a couple of recipes on my youtube, and the last one, I made,(easy) is my favorite. Hope you will try it and let me know what you think. I like it better than the kind I can buy at Aldi or Trader Joe. I grew up eating ryebread everyday for lunch, and of course, it is also healthy.
***** You are welcome. Have a wonderful trip to Iceland, I know it is very popular to visit Iceland. My daughter just had a great trip visiting Iceland, and she also enjoyed the Icelandic food very much. By the way, Iceland used to be a part of Denmark, and some of our recipes are similar. When you return please let me know if you have any specific requests. Skál!
+ScandinavianToday We are going to Iceland because it´s a dream my wife and I had for a long time, so it´s kind of a dream come true for us! I love Iceland food, I even liked Hakarl (I have it here in my fridge in Rio, Brazil!!). A recipe I´d love to see you make is Kleinur/Kleina! Thanks for being so kind!
***** Great to hear from you. I Denmark we also make Kleinur/Kleina or in Danish klejner for Christmas. I have made klejner on one of my videos. Hope you will take a look at it. There are a couple of different recipes. Actually, within the next couple of months, I will be making a different version of klejner, which is very traditional from the island, where I grew up. Interesting you live in Brazil. My daughter spent some time in Venezuela. Hope you have a wonderful time on Iceland.
What an interesting technique with the water. I've never seen that before, looks delicious and I love rye flour also. I don't know if you have a video already but there is a Swedish almond cake that I have heard about. It has chopped nuts on top, but I don't know the name of it. It's made with vanilla sugar and had peal sugar on top as a garnish over the nuts. I'd love to see you make one.
FitAnge S Thanks for your remark. Unfortunately, I am not sure about, which Swedish cake it is, you would like me to make. However, I will look into it, and hopefully I will figure it out. I do appreciate that you request it. Have a great day!
Try a tortilla press (tortilladora) with wax paper. Ya! Make a ball of dough with your hands, put in the tortilladora with wax paper on each side and give it a hard push and your done. Thanks for the recipe I'm making Irish tacos with corned beef and baked cabbage.
Victor Linas Thanks for asking. I am working on the recipe, and it will be posted within the next couple of days. I will let you know as soon as it has been posted on our blog.
this is Icelandic? I'm from Iceland and this is not how we eat flatbrauð aka flatkaka nor does it look like one plus our rye bread aka Rúgbrauð which is not flatkaka is dark
Hi Gunnhild, thanks for this information. Sorry, but I was told it is Icelandic. However, if you have an original recipe, I would be happy to make it again, and if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. My daughter and I went to Iceland on our trip to Denmark. You have a beautiful country, and we will visit again.
@@grettenielsen2137 your recepy is fine, the problem is, your flatbread (flatkaka-flatkake) is too thick so its harder to cook it through, the old way is to get it like 2mm thick and to cook it directly on the stove not on the pan to get the burn marks on it for flavor, then we eat it with only butter or butter and smoked lamb or butter and lamb pate, some like it with cheese. the other icelandic bread is called rye-bread that one is great with herring fish but that one takes a whole night to cook and its a different recepy altogether. short video on how it was done in the north in the old days. I just got a single electric stove and do mine outside because of smoke. ruclips.net/video/wFzGm7xEUMs/видео.html

Thanks again. Be sure to let me know if you have suggestions concerning Scandinavian food. Have a great day!
in Finland it's similar, just often buckwheat is added as a flower to the mix, and it is baked not fried.
