In 2006 I was 12 years old. I lost a friend very dear to me. For the next 7 years I listened to this music I knew only as "Windows welcome music" at least 100 times a day for the next seven years. I was going through a really bad depression and did not want to live anymore. This piece of music helped me through those difficult times and saved my life. I have listened to this song literally thousands of times. The other day I discovered a video about who made the music and found out it was Stan Lepard. I went to go and track him down so I could thank him for such a amazing piece of music that impacted my entire life. RIP Stan Lepard. I am so sorry that I did not get to thank you. I hope you are in a better place now and know that you changed at least one life.

I wonder if when making Velkommen Stan LePard realised that a random track he made for Internet Explorer and Windows XP's OOBE (that most people wouldn't have heard) would become possibly one of the best sounding tracks of all time
Up to a point I had always installed XP on machines where XP didn't have native driver support for whatever sound card/chip was installed (meaning I wouldn't get to hear this during the setup phase). Then one day, while working for a small managed service provider (around 2005) and setting up a customer laptop (it was very early morning weekend and I was only one in office) I was re-installing XP pro on a newer Dell. After initiating the install, I sort of dozed off while lying on the floor and was awakened by this music (I'd never heard it before) Being a gen X audiophile familiar with very large range of music (and a bit of a stoner) I was immediately struck by it and how "chill" it was. 80s electronic composers like Jan Hammer and Vangelis sprung to mind. I am reminded that another composer/producer did music for Microsoft a few years before. Brian Eno composed the Windows Welcome sound for both Windows 95 and Windows NT4. Anyway, RIP to Stan Lepard for this quite alluring little ditty.
I'm WITH YOU ALL THE WAY on that... I was a computer technician back in the early days of DOS/Windows, and, a serious music lover (especially all things 'Chilled')... When I first heard this I just sat there, slowly nodding my head with a smile... Damn, it was a cool track! I don't know who, or why they put this in, but... Damn it was (still is) smoooooooth! 👌😏 Jean Michelle Jarre, Vangells, Jan Hammer, Brian Eno, they all started my journey into my favourite genre - Chillout/Ambient.... And over time have collected some perfect ear pleasing, mind relaxing gems from other managers of the audiogasmic... Chicane, Zero 7, Blank & Jones, Masters & Nixon, Lemon Jelly, Language Lab, Bassic, Above & Beyond, Cupsurfer, Cinemascope, Conjure One, Envio, Groove Armada, Moodswings, Nils Andreas, Lindstrom and many many more.... IF interested, check out my RUclips channel 'Favourites - Chillax' playlist (or any others for my eclectic taste lol)... 👍 😎🇬🇧

Very interesting how such a small detail as this song has impacted our life and probably other's too. I, personally discovered this song like 3 years ago and since then it became one of my favorites.
