This whole song is amazing, but the part that just gives me goosebumps every single time is Tilian's little jam between 1:57 and 2:49. The mix between such a sick beat and Tilan's voice is just pure gold.
So basically, that dog with the eyepatch was a pirate, brought to Thug City through time travel. He then gained control over all the animals. He becomes a cyborg, but wants to become a full robot. The only way to do this is to take the Robot With Human Hair's DNA. After being captured, The Robot With The Human Hair then saves the animals, brings them to Downtown Battle Mountain, and the Deathstar destroys the cyborg dog. The robots from Thug City then chase the animals to Downtown Battle Mountain, and they fight eachother. Afterwords, the robots seek peace, and one of them stands up to give an "Acceptance Speech." That's all I got so far. I don't know how the "Happiness" guy comes into play, but it's referenced in this video and "Death Of The Robot With Human Hair"
I'm not sure he is, I mean its deffo inspired by Mattias, but if you watch the "making of" video for Young Robot, John Howe does all the drawing and animation and hes really sympathetic to the art style of Mattias, while keeping it kind of his own. So he most likely did all the artwork in this as well. Besides the point: permission for the usage is for the characters, which belong to John Howe / Dance Gavin Dance. :)
If there is one thing that I truly love about DGD, is not only the music, but the entire fan base. Yeah whatever, we fight over who we think the best singer is, but in the end we are all here to enjoy a fantastic song by a fantastic band, who has a fantastic music video, with awesome artwork. I honestly love this fan base.
Why do so many people hate Tilian? I love the dynamic between his higher, more angelic voice and Jon Mess' harsher, hellish vocals. The hate against Tilian is pointless because he's a tremendous singer. His voice floats over the instruments in any song he's done, whether it's acoustic, with Tides of Man, his solo stuff, with Saosin or even with Emarosa. DGD continues to put out great music.
People just can’t let go of the past. I’ve been a fan since Royal ocean in the MySpace days and feel that dgd with Tillian is the best iteration of dgd
This is going to be an incredible album, holy shit. I cannot believe how crisp and clean Jon's screams are, and Tillian's high pitch compliments the screams so well. I can't get enough of their recent releases.
This is shaping up the their greatest album yet. I just can't fucking get over how INSANELY good Jon Mess is sounding here and the hooks Tilian doles out are just goose-bump inducing. Yes sir it's a good year to be a DGD fan indeed.
I think the album as a whole is good, and there are stand out tracks, but overall I preferred Acceptance Speech. Tilian's had consistently catchy lyrics, Will Swan wasn't the only guitarist and had Josh Benton's collaboration, and the songs themselves flowed better between each other, and were consistently fantastic. although this is undoubtedly a good album, I personally think it's not their strongest in the discography
Oh shit! Cyborg Dog loses his pirate hat in Stroke God to the duck. Then the duck loses the hat when he goes back in time in Young Robot to Cyborg Dog. That pirate hat's in an infinite loop, that's nuts.
Another God tier track from DGD. They're seriously the one band that, no matter how many vocalists they change, will still put out consistently good shit that sounds like them. I seriously can't get over how good this album is so far.
My god....this is going to be one of their best albums ever. The 3 singles they've released so far are all INCREDIBLE!!! only 2 more weeks!! Can't wait!!
THE ROBOT WITH HUMAN HAIR WAS THERE. Oh god. Through the entirety of this song, I had goosebumps. EVERY SINGLE SONG DGD RELEASES IS PURE EUPHORIA. This new album has me so fucking hype
Best band on Rise hands down. Definitely most unique and separates themselves from every other band on Rise. Every single album released by DGD has been nothing less than gold. Can't say the same about a lot of other bands. Can't wait for instant gratification!! Gonna be another masterpiece!
I feel like the only way you can dislike DGD wholeheartedly is if you just hate music in general or if you're so narrowminded that you listen to only one type of genre. They're style is so diverse that you have to find at least something you like about them. Seriously, this is the only time where I just have to blame the listener for not liking a band. They're just too good.
I came here from watching all of the videos after Son of Robot was released. I'm really high right now and I just have to say, watching all these animated music videos in a specific order really was something else. Whoever did these videos for DGD is actually fucking brilliant
I see why skull duck wants to help the robot so much, he set everything in motion by taking dog pirate to the future and taking over the animals new home and then starting the war.
Ya'll niggas don't even KNOW he was spitting hot fire. This a hip hop song. This a rock hip hybrid niqqa. His flow when he was screaming was dope we about to hop on this beat rn
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the art here? And not only the art within the video, but the art in their music. The bass sounds sooooo good, drums are always on point, I don't know if it's me, but I don't hear wills guitar as much anymore. And tilian and mess are the perfect combo on vocals, God I love this Dgd!
Love the references in this video. There's probably more, but this is just all I saw. 0:14 DGDVII (Dance Gavin Dance's 7th album/EP release) 0:46 The sign reads "Downtown Battle Mountain" 1:31 A reference to the "Happiness" album cover 1:34 They're in the music video of "Death of the Robot With Human Hair" 1:48 Same antagonist from the music video of "Death of the Robot with Human Hair" 3:06 Will Swan sits on the toilet reading a newspaper that has "Times New Roman," "Downtown Battle Mountain'" and the robot from the album cover of "Acceptance Speech" Already pre-ordered. Can't wait for the rest of the album.
So I'm assuming it goes: Stroke God, Millionaire Young Robot The Robot with Human Hair The Robot vs The Heroin Battle of Vietnam The Robot with Human Hair Part 2 The Robot with Human Hair Part 2.5 The Robot with Human Hair Part 3 The Robot with Human Hair Part 4 Death of the Robot with Human Hair
I have a feeling this album is going to make them more famous then ever before. Tilian also might be the second vocalist to stay for 3 releases and the first to stay for 3 in a row. The chemistry is really really good right now. They don't even need to add an official 2nd guitarist. Just keep this.
The number of references in this one music video is incredible. Not only are they all to Dance Gavin Dance's albums, but the art style has always remained the same which I think is something to mention. Also my absolute favorite of this video is at 0:49. Look closely at the top shelf books with names on them....
Nick McCloskey Its weird, its seems ive skipped ab unch of albums listening to them haha Like I love DTBM1, Lermon Meringue tie is my fave DGD song prolly. And then i also have listened to Happiness and Instant Gratification a lot and love them, but then I only know a few songs here and there on the "in between" albums haha
I like the verse 1 by Jon, hook by Tilian, verse 2 by Jon, hook by Tilian verse 3 by Jon, bridge by Tillian, hook by Tilian structure in their releases from Instant Gratification thus far. The back & forth is actually pretty refreshing from the scene, seeing as most "core" bands feature 2:30min of singing and 30sec of screaming. My adoration for this band increases with every record!!!
I have a theory here, not sure if it's been already posted here before: Okay so we know with the video for Death of the Robot with Human Hair that the robot either died or is floating in space after having his DNA core blasted. Of course, we see no signs of this skeleton duck in the video as it looks to be the first uploaded in this series, from what I can tell. In this video, however, John Howe includes at 1:34 both the skeleton duck and the happy dinosaur in the scene where the robot is falling from the building to catch the DNA core. My theory is this: with the skeleton duck in the fray and this time machine item, I think we could see the robot come back into the picture! I dunno if John Howe has commented on this I was just thinking about it after watching these videos a bit, I fell in love with the little story.
THIS VIDEO IS A PREQUEL/PARADOX TO DEATH OF THE ROBOT WITH HUMAN HAIR VIDEO. I'd assume where they left the pirate dog asshole is the same place he gained power, army, ships, etc. Leading to this battle with robots vs animal people. They just keep going through time repeating the same thing over and over with the time machine. Maybe idk I'm high ha.
This tillian dude has the best damn vocals I think I've ever heard, like Holy shit im 26 this year and this was the first song I heard from em. I've been sleeping on Dance Gavin Dance for real.
See, this is what truley AMAZING music is, no matter what it's always fun to watch the music videos and the whole entire time it seems like you get attatched to every character
I think I'm the only one that noticed, but on the very bottom of the newspaper, it says "Do not read this, it's just too hard. But, if you're reading this, hello, props to your commitment :D "
I love how in each one of those, Jon Mess' voice represents the darkside while Tillian represents the thoughtful and cheerful side. I interpretate those animals as good thoughts and the robots as bad one. How you try to stay positive and want to escape bad memories. With Tillian sings about relationships on the outside like in a lot of songs.
I don’t think objectively you can say anyone’s taste is bad. Music taste is subjective. That being said, Fantano was wrong on this one in my humble opinion.
@@TrebleStarcrush Objectivity applies for complex music written by talented musicians who put a shit ton of effort behind their work. Dance Gavin Dance music is objectively good. We could argue all John is doing is screaming, but I’m referring to instrumental composition, deep knowledge of harmonies, etc.
Honestly, I've followed you guys throughout all of your lineup changes and just when I thought the sound, lyrics, and innovation would be peaked, you've steadily proved me wrong. Looking forward to Instant Gratification! Good shit guys!
I kinda have a weird theory. I think that this music video takes place AFTER the Death of the Robot with Human hair. The battle is happening on the planet they were on when the Robot died. So the animals decided to take the robots in since a robot did save their lives, but the robots decided to argue about something and then the battle happens(Downtown Battle Mountain). The whole time Traveling thing happens and the Dog gets stuck in the PAST, where he tries to take over Thug City, but the robot stops him. The robot then leads the animals to the green planet, which is this one, and boom! You got Stroke God Millionaire!
Happiness was my favorite album by them, I liked a few songs off Downtown Battle Mountain I and II, didn't like their last album but this song is okay, I think they finally found their singer for the band even if he isn't for me. That Happiness scene at 1:31 made me happy.
All the references to other their other songs in this blows my mind. The statue's plaque at the beginning, the Happiness cover, Death of the Robot With Human Hair music video scene and how the dog is left at the doors of the building.. So much wow. Fucking love it.
Some easter eggs: The king of this planet in the Death of the Robot with Human Hair at 4:50 is the same king at the start of this music video. 0:14 look at the license plate on the car. It says DGD VII 0:32 look in the back, you see one of the ships that appeared at the end of the Death of the Robot w/Human Hair video. 0:46 it says Downtown Battle Mountain above the Science Museum sign. 1.44 is the antagonist in the Death of the Robot video. His eye patch I assume gets replaced with the robotic eye. He gets teleported to where the events of the Death of the Robot took place, I'm assuming.
I swear that 1:58 - 2:36 is some of Tillian's best vocals to date. Gets me every time
DGD is without a doubt the best band Rise Records has
I don't wanna say they're the best, but they're arguably one of the best.
***** You're right. At the end of the day it's all opinion. Although, Will has got to be the best guitarist
Scott McGinnis They're pretty sick. I like a lot of Rise bands, but they seem the most unique
Jesus Garza Yeah there are a ton of good bands. I agree that DGD is unique though. Their guitar style and lyrics sure stand out
Scott McGinnis DGD and HLH are the best!
This whole song is amazing, but the part that just gives me goosebumps every single time is Tilian's little jam between 1:57 and 2:49. The mix between such a sick beat and Tilan's voice is just pure gold.
"I bet you never saw me coming, but I've had my eye on you for miles"
That double bass is killer too 🔥 👌🏾
Das literally my favorite part of the song 🥹🥹🥹

carl jaysen You're great too!
Zack Nieves thanks for sharing what you know, now everything seems much clear to me :)
Zack Nieves Illuminati Blockbuster just waiting to be written by hollywoods top executives!!!!! wow would that sell tickets!
+Zack Nieves brought to Thug City while going Back To The Future
Tillian's vocals are so smooth!
***** I don't get it...
Guy Pearce approves this comment.
Feel like im gonna slip and fall on how smooth these vocals are
+Aaron Oliver really a nice one :D
Tillian voice is smooth like butter!
I love how all of the videos are telling a really cool story. They need to make a comic book series.
i'm on it ;)
Bryan Eich just gotta let Mattias Adolfsson know, he's the artist
I'm not sure he is, I mean its deffo inspired by Mattias, but if you watch the "making of" video for Young Robot, John Howe does all the drawing and animation and hes really sympathetic to the art style of Mattias, while keeping it kind of his own. Like Coheed and Cambria with The Amory Wars!
I want them to make an RPG game like earthbound with all these characters.
Will Swan on the Jon... I hope he doesn't make a Mess
Pearson the bottom of the toilet with a Mingus. Oh Ferrick! 😂
Dammit dude
Haha
Bless this mess
hahahahahaha
get out.
Digging this music video! So original and explains a lot in the DGD universe of their albums!

1:58 - 2:37 i could listen to this part on repeat forever, the vocals are so good

If only the fan base were really like this. 60% of it is just like "FUCK TILIAN, JONNY IS DA BEST. BRING BACK JONNY LOL"
YASS! 🙌
***** that part is 100% true though.
Honestly I prefer Tillians vocals but Kurt's were pretty fire, I fw ALB they were the first band I really got into besides the killers.
@@ImFeeNominal which is correct. tilian is a terrible singer who relies on heavy pitch correction. he also has a generic whiny soyboy voice.

@@killerkitty1313 I blame them for getting me back into vocals after 10yrs lol

I love how I'm not the only one who came here after watching Young Robot, dgd fans are awesome haha
The least egocentric bands are the most talented bands
Thanks for complementing ppl who listen to them I listen to them too. My favorite album has to be Mothership
Someone needs to make an indie game with this art style because holy fuck I'm in love
Machinarium
Also, maybe Don't Starve

+converge326 ` OMG best comment ever
+Charlie's Drum Corner Eh, compared to what it was, other people I talk to say it's mediocre at best. There are 4 really really good songs but...
7 gold albums? Thank you DGD.
Rui Carneiro haha, i found u again and again.
Oh shit! Cyborg Dog loses his pirate hat in Stroke God to the duck. Then the duck loses the hat when he goes back in time in Young Robot to Cyborg Dog. That pirate hat's in an infinite loop, that's nuts.
but didnt he get the hat back after the dog ran into the manure?
Asian_Gameplay Yeah, I realized I was wrong but was too lazy to delete my comment lol. It's all good shit tho
I was so stoked to listen to this song when I heard the sample of it. Didn't disappoint. I love the groove at 1:57
anyone else think that whale looked awesome in that 2 second underwater scene? i love all the art in these music videos
missybeans1 Idk why but I had to keep staring at that scene too ...
jen delona haha its so cool right?
missybeans1 best part of the video for me!!
***** lmao
***** worked lol
The artist is Mattias Adolfsson. Go and give him some love because his art is amazing. He really captures the essence of dgd.
Another God tier track from DGD. They're seriously the one band that, no matter how many vocalists they change, will still put out consistently good shit that sounds like them. I seriously can't get over how good this album is so far.

Had to come back to watch this one because of Young robot
is a one long story right ? and its getting clear
Rrregie yeah man, stroke god, Young robot, then death of a robot
and it loops back, the end of death of a robot leads into stroke god
soo what order should they be watched in?
Yep! :)
I love how Will is reading "The Times New Roman". This whole video was breathtakingly amazing. Bravo, DGD. Bravo.
I see why skull duck wants to help the robot so much, he set everything in motion by taking dog pirate to the future and taking over the animals new home and then starting the war.
1:58 - 2:36 is money
Nikita Ember i see we both have exceptional taste.
I can't stop listening to that part.
One the catchiest hooks on the record for sure.
hopesfall2win seriously that whole drop and interlude is what really drew me into this song! No doubt definitely is money!!!
Probably my favourite DGD album to date.
+Ciian Thornhiil Something New is my favourite.
I hope DGD8 has a video like this. I love this style so much

Tilian sounds dope on this. So glad you can hear the bass in this mix as well, Kris Crummett is the man.
1:57 best part
Their last two albums have been unbelievable. Already itching to hear more stuff.
So I'm assuming it goes:
Stroke God, Millionaire
Young Robot
The Robot with Human Hair
The Robot vs The Heroin Battle of Vietnam
The Robot with Human Hair Part 2
The Robot with Human Hair Part 2.5
The Robot with Human Hair Part 3
The Robot with Human Hair Part 4
Death of the Robot with Human Hair
With 'Son of Robot' coming right after Young Robot and right before Human Hair p1
Caseh STM and The Robot 3 are the best out of this saga imo
Jon's lyrics are once again pure gold. The shit he comes up with is fantastic.
That newspaper is full of reference. The Times New Roman, Accepts award(sounds like acceptance Speech), and Battle Downtown.
I'm pretty sure that is DownTown Battle Mountain where the video takes place
And when the beast is traveling through time, he is teleported into the boat from the Happiness album cover!
Sean McGowan
And they run into the robot with human hair too!
Alfie Morale yee. and the city they're in in "Death of a robot with human hair" is Thug City ;-;
Randy Y And the pirate gets teleported to the robot city in death of the robot with human hair where I'm assuming he becomes their leader

First song I ever listened to by Dance Gavin Dance, got me hooked on this band, the videos are awesome too
Same
tilian on the bridge/interlude is amazing. Those vocal melodies are smooth.
The entire work is smooth - from the uncleans to the rhythm and the video accompaniment.
this is literally my favorite music video of all time and my favorite song by you guys kudos

i love this video, and the happiness reference

Dance Gavin Dance always have the best videos
all time favorite band for 5+ years now. never fails to deliver.
Also those reference in this video. They were great
This song has just cemented the reason why Dance Gavin Dance is my favourite band of all time ever. Love it!

This band was made for love it.
Ugh. These bass chords. They’re too good. I keep saying it but Tim we will miss you…
Ugh. I feel you. I've literally only just found out about the tragic news. Came straight here to listen to this 😭
REST IN POWER, TIM ❤
Definitely a tragic loss, I'm grateful that we will always have the music to remember him by - Fly High Tim!
Seriously this music video is absolutely incredible. Really well done and totally reflects the song's vibes perfectly.

Nick M but the album is called instant gratification....
This is the album that Anthony Fantano gave a 1/10, yes 1/10. Time to admit that he has objectively poor taste in music.
Was truly a grave mistake for him lol
I don’t think objectively you can say anyone’s taste is bad. Music taste is subjective. That being said, Fantano was wrong on this one in my humble opinion.
Yeah, Fantano is the worst. He gave Between The Buried and Mes "parallax 2" a super low rating too. Dudes "opinions" are wack.
Who the fook is Anthony Fantano?
Honestly, I've followed you guys throughout all of your lineup changes and just when I thought the sound, lyrics, and innovation would be peaked, you've steadily proved me wrong. Looking forward to Instant Gratification! Good shit guys!
So the one eyed pirate went on to become the evil future dictator in "Death of" after he was dropped into that time period. Very cool.
From DBM to this, I love you dudes just as much. Your music will always make me happy. Thanks for changing and still being amazing.
The whole time
Traveling thing happens and the Dog gets stuck in the PAST, where he tries to take over Thug City, but the robot stops him. The robot then leads the animals to the green planet, which is this one, and boom! You got Stroke God Millionaire!
That doesn’t line up because the bird has fur at the beginning of the battle
1:56 - 2:37 sounds absolutely fantastic. I love it, it's so catchy!
Kewkky Right? I listen to that part alone just over and over ha. The counterpoint with the bass and Tilian's melody is sooooo good.
I only have one problem with this song. It's too short!
Happiness was my favorite album by them, I liked a few songs off Downtown Battle Mountain I and II, didn't like their last album but this song is okay, I think they finally found their singer for the band even if he isn't for me. That Happiness scene at 1:31 made me happy.
So many references that my brain bugged!
Can't wait to see them here in Screwston on 4/20 !!!! It's going to be a HELL of a show! (:
Aughh I wanna see them when they come to Houston but the venue is an hour away from my crib ;~;
I live in north Houston, but it is DEFINITELY, worth the drive x)
I live in the white side of Houston, Katy :~: If i had my car, I'd drive with no problem
"Don’t be tardy for my leaky Barbie tv party pee in the park" - Mess
He's never going to live that line down is he.
Thank you for breaking that down!!!! I was wondering (for a while) what the heck that statue at the beginning of the video has inscribed on it.
Its not enough to put this on repeat, I have to also watch this music video every time I listen to it.
Rip Tim!
Tillian finally started to blend, good to see it coming along.
Is it weird that Head Hunters came out a month ago and at 1:28 they time travel to a western time? Jus saiyan.
Madyson McAllister I scrolled through the comments to find you. It took forever, I thought I was the only one
He had the same outfit and dual pistols as Tilian too
All the references to other their other songs in this blows my mind. The statue's plaque at the beginning, the Happiness cover, Death of the Robot With Human Hair music video scene and how the dog is left at the doors of the building.. So much wow. Fucking love it.
Newspaper says "time traveling duo steals sports almanac" a reference to back to the future pt.2 for which they named a song after.
Some easter eggs:
The king of this planet in the Death of the Robot with Human Hair at 4:50 is the same king at the start of this music video.
0:14 look at the license plate on the car. It says DGD VII
0:32 look in the back, you see one of the ships that appeared at the end of the Death of the Robot w/Human Hair video.
0:46 it says Downtown Battle Mountain above the Science Museum sign.
1.44 is the antagonist in the Death of the Robot video. His eye patch I assume gets replaced with the robotic eye. He gets teleported to where the events of the Death of the Robot took place, I'm assuming.
this animation was fucking fantastic!
Yeeeeeeesssssssss oh my God DGD has been the one of the greatest things in my life. THE NEW ALBUM IS GOING TO SELL GREAT.
