Bolt that ign module onto the gaurd , + even better add an extra ground wire to it. They pack up without a good solid ground. If she's been sitting a decade the fuels likely evaporated out the perished little vent lines on the filler neck. If you can hear the fuel pumps working when you turn the key ...I'd slap 10-20L of premium 98 in. So they arnt roasting themselves, if they work she will probably run and any jelly poo should desolve with some fresh juice splashing about. I found a few warm soaking bucket drenchings in cold power and a scrubbing brush to spot scrub any deep old stains. Followed by a pressure wash clean T2B (gently& not to close) air gun off dry. Then hang out in the sunshine to dry out fully. Really brings them back to life, colours pop again. Nothing beats pulling the carpet and seats. Cleaning the lot and the bare floor console everything then putting it all back in fresh and clean. Easy to keep it sweet as starting over fresh. She's a low K & T5. Only bad thing is not being Atlas Grey 🤤 glad she's getting some TLC. And that vr vs monstrosity front bar is been kicked off & out to the curb. Few Paddock rescued VNs on my channel. I Love these VN supercars. Matt Tinkler can piss on some other Welcome pad. Instead of helping starving kids in Yemen I'd rather donate to help get neglected rusting VNs out of Paddock graves and back on the road. Full or club reg. How much do TV advertisements cost anyway? Maybe The Tinkler can stop blowing money on TV adverts and start sending HPR30 ryco filter packs to people fighting vicious spiders flat tyres and snake infested long grass doing gods work downunder. The iron lion + buick mang deserves international charity support.
Great car with heaps of potential mate. Maybe get something going with Jake, restore it to its former glory. Would make great viewing and fan base following through the resto. Cheers.
Nice find. The VN is my favourite of all the commodore SS models. Atlas grey was the best looking colour for them, IMO. Looks like she'll need a radiator fan shroud too. Are you getting that roof fully retrimmed? It's a common problem on 2nd generation commodores.
I remember these where everywhere now there rare as hens teeth. Would love to see someone fully restore it but like you say would still be good to see on the road as a runner
The iron lion oiling system starts out really well, it has a 120° bend and it will hold oil in the pipe about 100mm long before the pump it's literally the best part of the oiling system after that it goes to s#$t
VN SS always looked amazing. Even the little 15” wheels look good. Back in the 89 or 90 a mate at school parent’s had a group A one in this colour that we all used to drool over. Going to keep the Bob Jane Australian All Rounders on her?
Phoenix Red isn't as nice as Atlas Grey, but still what a good buy. I'd love to see a pantina build akin to the blue VL Berlina Jake did a few months back. Regardless of sell or keep, that VR style kit has to go!
Please get back on the road but do all the paint work it’ll transform the car. The clear coats completely gone and it’s got rust that needs sorting before it gets real bad.
Mate with the skills you have and the fact you like playing with all makes of cars I definitely think you should do some more roadkill style builds, get it running driving, detail what's there have some fun then move it on, like you said no one can restore them all
I don’t know just how busy your work life is or if this RUclips Chanel means a lot to you. But look at the 53,000 views for this VN SS. If content and views is what your after, it’s this VN SS. Food for thought Mark
Sounds like it's got a dead cylinder when cranking, probably a valve stuck open. I'd be pulling the covers before you do it again. Make sure you check the oil pressure. Holden v8's can fail to pick up oil if they have been sitting for a long time because the pump gears dry out.
I’m not the biggest fan of the VN, but the company was still strong at the time so it was built strong and fairly simple. It won’t take much to get this thing back to its former glory
Most definitely worth saving..Replace the body trim and steering wheel with original SS items… I purchased one of those in Atlas grey and 5 speed way back in 1989.. paid 33k brand new..
yep they are worth a fortune now mark. deffo bro. its missing the fan shroud. the factory steering wheel is same as a VN Calais 4 spoke thing.these things have two fuel pumps a low pressure in tank lift pump then a high pressure supply pump bud. likely the in tank will be rusty as f..k mate
Great score Mark. A VN VP SS manual was a car I wanted when I was young and I ended up with a VS Clubsport auto. I loved that car, it was one car that I had the most driving pleasure in. It looks like it’s got 2 defect labels, do you know what they are for?
I think it will be good to get it sorted a bit and then maybe sell it to someone who will restore it I remember that model My platoon Sargent had one exactly the same when I first joined the army late 80s 👍👍
Spend the time and money on this gem, never see them any more, I've got a all original vp ss auto and it attracts so much attention and sounds incredible
my dads first car was a 1989 vn ss manual balanced and tuned by hsv, he got it for 16k in 1996, to this day no matter how many cars hes owned including manual ls3 hsvs he still says it was one of if not the best car hes ever owned, i really hope i can get one in the future if i can find one under 30k
No you shouldn't you should sell tp me instead haha but nah yeah very nice find defiantly worth doing it. I was shocked when i heard it fire up i was like shit that was quick lol
The 90's car scene was horrendous. Always with body kits, ridiculous interiors with everything being painted. Monster tacho's. Thankfully this only has a bodykit. Still, what an absolute find! Very jealous.
Painfully slow lump?? The old iron lion moves alright. And it has the best sounding roar. In a light weight VN the power to weight is decent. Getting traction and going around corners is more of an issue than going fast. With standard brakes , suspension , cheese cutter orig wheels & tyres the 5.0L is powerful enough to get into plenty of trouble. or impounded plenty fast enough.
Let's face Ford was no where in the late 80's end early 90's. Holden v8s were where it was at. I rate the ss over the hsv of the same period due to the unique style. Which is saying something. By the way I drive a clevo and fully understand ur decision to buy this vn.
Bolt that ign module onto the gaurd , + even better add an extra ground wire to it. They pack up without a good solid ground.

I Love these
VN supercars.

Get Jake to do a couple videos doing rust repairs and paint, plenty of people would love to see that
Great car with heaps of potential mate.
Maybe get something going with Jake, restore it to its former glory.
Would make great viewing and fan base following through the resto.
Cheers.
Certainly worth saving and putting back on the road, very collectable Aussie classic. 👍
The VR/S front bar needs to go, as well. The original looks so much better on this particular model 🙏
Fuck yeah. What were we thinking back then?
A standard bar gives me a standard bar.
True I noticed the vr vs knockoff
@@FuManchu5ltrthe way I get passed the front end is with the "it could be worse" mind set 😂
Atleast it isn't a VT, X, Y or Z mock bumper
@@ESISTTIGER Amen brother. Good outlook.
Yep, that VR HSV knock off bar "conversion" looks hideous...
Great cars in their hayday, dominated the streets that era. Manual SS's are hard to find. 🎉
A patina road car is always better than a paddock ornament. Yes please, back on the road running if possible for me.
I'm a Ford man, but have always loved the noise of the iron lion.
Back on the road please - with the correct kit of course!
A GMH product will definitely be good for the channel
The channels been doing great without one so far 🤭
I agree with you Mark, any car on the road no matter how it looks is better than one not on the road.
Nice find. The VN is my favourite of all the commodore SS models. Atlas grey was the best looking colour for them, IMO.
Looks like she'll need a radiator fan shroud too.
Are you getting that roof fully retrimmed? It's a common problem on 2nd generation commodores.
Great video ,I look forward to this build on a great Aussie gem
I remember these where everywhere now there rare as hens teeth. Would love to see someone fully restore it but like you say would still be good to see on the road as a runner
Hell yeah get it going and cruise it around for a while👍👍👍
Vp and vn ss are my fave cars of all time owned a few cant wait for these vids.
I’m so hyped for this project 👍🏻👍🏻
Pack oil pump to get oil pressure for next time. After sitting sometimes they won’t get oil pressure 👍
The iron lion oiling system starts out really well, it has a 120° bend and it will hold oil in the pipe about 100mm long before the pump it's literally the best part of the oiling system after that it goes to s#$t
Gorgeous car, worth doing up. Grew up with these cars. Very desirable, especially being factory v8 ss
VN SS always looked amazing. Even the little 15” wheels look good. Back in the 89 or 90 a mate at school parent’s had a group A one in this colour that we all used to drool over. Going to keep the Bob Jane Australian All Rounders on her?
certainly worth getting the old girl back on the road. get jake on board and built it into a nice streeter, or do a build with old mate charlie
One for Jake to make nice and fresh to get those defects off. A fresh respray clean her up and flip her. A vn ss theses days are like a gem to find.
Remember these in the showroom, very much a hero model , hard to believe it's been thirty odd years already
Aussie icon-worlds fastest production sedan of its time-feggin oath you save her 👉👌
"Should i" shouldn't even be a question, it's I will!
Never really been much of a VN kind of bloke but a manual VN SS is definitely very cool and worth putting back on the road.
Take it back to original, they are a very desirable car these days and the prices they change hands for you could make a very tidy profit from it
The vn is killa i think the back lights are vp could be wrong though great find
That would have been so cool to find mate especially a 5 speed manual
Definitely would be keen to see this get a Resto. 👌
Phoenix Red isn't as nice as Atlas Grey, but still what a good buy. I'd love to see a pantina build akin to the blue VL Berlina Jake did a few months back. Regardless of sell or keep, that VR style kit has to go!
Atlas grey vn ss and anthracite grey vp ss my favorite cars of all time
VN SS 5 speed. Those things alone make this worth saving! Nice find "-)
I would love to see it back on the road.
13.24: That spider on your shoulder. 😱 Apart from that, of course you shoiuld save it! Any SS commodore needs saving for the future by now!
Hi there, I was fortunate enough to drive them brand new. I drove the last SS Holden made . good old fuel injected 5ltr.Keep up the good work
Id love to see it with the proper bars back on the road ive got a white vn ss but i never see another one these days
would love to see this hsv vn ss commodore start and drive to be proud of another holden and hsv be back to the road ❤🎉
I'm thankful everytime my 1989 VN APV Group 5i starts as it's my daily driver.
Please get back on the road but do all the paint work it’ll transform the car. The clear coats completely gone and it’s got rust that needs sorting before it gets real bad.

Hell yeah, luv to see it get cleaned up
Got to love the vn ss managed to get me a rolling body before the price hike will be a awesome build for the channel
Well done on having a red hot go 👍🏻👍🏻
I think it will be a great classic commo to have just pit to stock as is and on the road again.
Another great one Mark. Save all the aussie classics 👌
Yep get it going.
And maybe that ZH in the background too
Sounds like it's got a dead cylinder when cranking, probably a valve stuck open. I'd be pulling the covers before you do it again. Make sure you check the oil pressure. Holden v8's can fail to pick up oil if they have been sitting for a long time because the pump gears dry out.
About time there was Holden content
Love it
It looks fantastic
Definitely get it running
Worth big $$$
👍
Not worth big $$$ it only a dirty old vn nothing special it not a hsv so it not worth big bucks
I’m not the biggest fan of the VN, but the company was still strong at the time so it was built strong and fairly simple.
It won’t take much to get this thing back to its former glory

Would like to see you give this one a proper resto

Rare spares do a new fuel tank for theses vehicles
I wanna see it back on the streets...even though im in w.a.
my dads first car was a 1989 vn ss manual balanced and tuned by hsv, he got it for 16k in 1996, to this day no matter how many cars hes owned including manual ls3 hsvs he still says it was one of if not the best car hes ever owned, i really hope i can get one in the future if i can find one under 30k
Look forward to seeing this .
Love the ss but not the fact wheels so much
Looks really good!!
Killer find mate! I’ve been on the hunt for a Phoenix red manual SS for a while but they are so expensive!
Hey Mark vn ss are going for 20+ grand Worthing restoring
My son has a vn berlina 5ltr wagon parked up last few years might be a good time to give it a wash and get it cruzin again
My VP was a similar colour called Empire Red.
Mate I almost got one of those the atlas grey one for $800 10 years ago should have got it doh
Yer shame not goin all in paint etc. Cos rekon get the money back. But bro outa the paddocks a great start.
That’s cool love the vn commodores be killa the way it is back on the road and enjoy it
Yes for sure
Yes holden build!!
No you shouldn't you should sell tp me instead haha but nah yeah very nice find defiantly worth doing it. I was shocked when i heard it fire up i was like shit that was quick lol
Would Look better as a cube... another words crush it
What a find get it done son
it needs to be treated right and full restoration
The stock models not a looker but yer be worth doin. Cheers
The 90's car scene was horrendous. Always with body kits, ridiculous interiors with everything being painted. Monster tacho's. Thankfully this only has a bodykit.
Still, what an absolute find! Very jealous.
Nothing sounds better then a Holden 5L and its got a T5
Modern paddock gold🏁
Can we get some iron empire phoniex vn ss merch !!!! I have a phoniex ss myself
Massive buy for the channel although im a Holden guy im not massively into vn-vs but Vp & Vn ss's are 👌 even if the 304 is a painfully slow lump
Painfully slow lump??

or impounded plenty fast enough.
This one I'm excited about
How will you go clearing the 2 existing defects on the car and registering it? I didnt think it could be sold and transferred with an existing defect?
I have an 89 SS VN and it is patina with a 355 striker in it. Polish a turd and drive it I say
noticed some nice SA defect stickers :P do you know what it was defected for?
Its worth fixing they look sick when restored
I'm a Ford guy but I don't mind these. Save it
100%stock make me proud brother do a good job
There's a red vn SS parked out the front of ultra tune in Port Melbourne
Do you thinks it’s free ?
Let's face Ford was no where in the late 80's end early 90's. Holden v8s were where it was at. I rate the ss over the hsv of the same period due to the unique style. Which is saying something.
By the way I drive a clevo and fully understand ur decision to buy this vn.
is that a ZH fairlane next too it ?
VN SS 5 speed Is a fun car to drive.
The car should be at the garage getting new parts...only way to go.
Get it breathing some air again
Go full resto paint panel the works big bucks
Yew. Go the Iron Lion.
Those cars are awesome cruisers aka holiday cars, tonnes of room i travelled around australia in a s pak best and worst time of my life
The group A VN is way better than them normal V8 VNs
Nice ss 👍
What a great car they were , used to hate them because the cops had them ha,ha, very nice car.
Back on the road
