  • With electric motorcycles increasingly becoming available on the market for competitive prices and improving ranges, I thought it was time to get muddy. What better than the Artisan ES1 PRO fitted with an off-road pack and a muddy track.
    This video is a day playing in the mud on a MX track in insanely muddy conditions. Much of the track was a foot deep in mud with big puddles and very slippery. We also played on a mini MX track and on the grass areas around the track. Total 4 hours riding with rain falling for the majority of this.
    Note: this was extreme conditions for the ES1 Pro and not the conditions it’s designed for…we threw it in the deep end.

    Overview: This is a cracking little urban city bike but with a twist. Two bikes in one with the off-road pack and an amazing toy for the mud too. Super low running costs, incredibly easy to ride and with a range perfectly adequate for the average commuter. With its dirt bike like styling you can ride without a full licence and enjoy the punchy electric torque. Definitely a strong contender!

    The name - Artisan / Kollter / Tinbot
    Artisan are the UK importer of the motorcycle which is actually manufactured by Kollter. Another importer is TinBot. This means the Artisan ES1 Pro and TinBot ES1 Pro are effective the same bike.

    Question: With an ice motor , a lot of the idea of how much traction you have under you is the sound of the motor reacting to the traction. Is there any cue's you can use on the emotor besides tyre sound?As wierd as it sounds I love riding tor twisties on wet roads, and that feedback is really important to my control.
    PS loved the backward slide down the incline. Doesn't that bike have a left hand rear brake on the bar rather than a foot brake? Front brake is a unweighted end in that situation. Rear would have helped ( maybe, it was pretty slippery) to get traction for the brakes. Think mtb brakes.

    • @TheGirlOnABike
      @TheGirlOnABike  3 года назад +3

      Umm. I kind of get what you mean. I think for me I find electric is considerably easier to find traction because the power delivery is so instant and linear. With combustion the power curve is not consistent so your constantly working the rpms to find the sweet spot for traction. Electric makes that easier. You also have less noise so can hear what is going on with your tyres far more easily. The electric motion trials bike (see my other two videos on this bike) maybe highlights this more clearly. Does that make sense?

  • @lordbrasic9469
    @lordbrasic9469 3 года назад

    That bike was a real shock didn't think it would cope with all that mud. I would miss the noise of a proper engine too much to ride one. Enjoyed the video and its good to see you riding something different.

    • @TheGirlOnABike
      @TheGirlOnABike  3 года назад

      hehe me too! It's definitely more mud that it was designed for but fair play to it for handling it! It was a fun day

      @@TheGirlOnABike Hi. I can barely find info on the bikes maintenance needs or the electric motor that it has. You said in the review video that the motor needs oil do you know what type of gear oil it needs, how much and how often does it have to be changed?

    • @TheGirlOnABike
      @TheGirlOnABike  3 года назад +1

      @@daniellacko6620 oh gosh, I'm not so sure on the specifics, I'm sorry. All I know is it's little unique on an electric bike but a Kollter oil compartment to lubricate the gear box means a tiny bit of maintenance. This needs topping up at about 900 mile intervals. I would suggest emailing Artisan and asking? Sorry that is not more helpful

      @@TheGirlOnABike hi mate, yeh looks like a good starting point. I used to mountain bike round the world coz i hate noise but battery tech is getting to the point where it makes a lot of sense.
      I'm hoping to get the single battery version (to get a legit vehicle for the regulations) and then replace the batteries and charger, add as much range as it will carry efficiently and head for the Horizon.
      If you can think of a better option, please gimme a ding back.
      P.s. like ya work. John

      @@TheGirlOnABike well, i figure if i can add a fast charger port and get the range over 100 miles with better batteries, then Europe will have the infrastructure .
      I think i will just have to suck it and see. I should have no time constraints, so maybe a leisurely trip onward up through the Silk Route to Himalaya.
      I've started chatting with Newzeroland so i may try and pick his brain. ;)

    It would be an interesting comparison to pit an electric bike against a petrol bike to see the effect the engine has on grip. Electric motors by nature deliver a smooth power drive whereas petrol engines have pulsing power.
    So the theory goes the smooth power delivery is more likely to spin out than say a single cylinder engine with its power delivery that has a natural cadence. A bit like comparing a drill with a hammer drill... You would need to have identical tyres and weights to compare the two and isolate the power delivery effect on the grip..

    • @TheGirlOnABike
      @TheGirlOnABike  3 года назад

      If trials bikes are anything to go by the finding traction was a lot easier on electric. They'd were within 8kg weights I believe to and same Michelin types. The electric gives so much precision and feel.
      I like the idea of a full test but gosh making the test environment, as you say, could be tough 🤔

    I just bought the Banshee version of this in S. Florida. Great bike. $7500 out the door.
    Alot of chain noise, but a real dirt bike you can licence.
    Just needs a 110 plug. About two hours to charge.
    Tough. Wish it had a clutch and gears. But very simple.
    Contact me if you need more.

    I own a Kollter Banshee. I haven't been stupid enough to run it thru mud.
    But I have put 70 miles on it in South Florida on the road and does fine, keeps up with most traffic and handles well.
    It seems to grab with brakes but I think that is the recombine energy system. If that is even a thing.
    I don't like that the brakes are all on the hand levers. Big problem
    It needs a higher gear. If it had that, it would be perfect.

    • @TheGirlOnABike
      @TheGirlOnABike  2 года назад

      Cool. Thanks for sharing. I guess the higher gear is for more speed? My bet is the battery range and power would be the limiter there unfortunately. Possibly go for a full power electric spec bike not an entry level limited capacity one maybe but...the price is a big jump! A Zero or Energica
