After trying this out for a while, I can conclude that on one ROM version, G. Ceara teleports when you get close regardless of which speed you have. On the other version I checked, I have not succeeded at all to gain on him while driving on the grass like you do. I'll check each ROM revision to see what the differences are here. It's a hugely important difference for the two season speedrun category.

yo lo logré no sin esfuerzo...no recuerdo si en automático o 4 marchas, al descubrir que una vez puesto el password (de mil caracteres) si reinicias la consola este continua puesto y sin necesidad de volver a escribirlo para tener una oportunidad mas...hasta que le gané! sería por el año 92
eu acho q depende da versao, uma vez na epoca do mega aind eeu joguei um cartucho q o carro dele simplesmnete desaparecia e aparecia bem mais pra frente se vc jogasse com 7 marchas

I tried beating him with 7 gears and its impossible he stays 1sec a head no matter what, on auto the closest I have got him is 3ths every time I get that close to have a opportunity to over take the lap cars help him out and he just drives through them like they are not there and do their best to get in my way to crash giving him the win every time

in rev 02 it already fixed, driving via grass decreased your speed
I think he teleports once you pass a certain speed, so need to beat him while not surpassing that speed

Parece que alguma versão do jogo tem uma espécie de bug de velocidade. Depende da velocidade que vc atinge,causa um teleporte do carro do G. Ceara.
