You know, I actually really like the theory of Emily being the wizard's daughter! Perhaps that's why she didn't seem to have her own room? I think maybe she lived with the Wizard until Hayley's parents left, and she felt bad about Haley having to be left alone, so she used her forest magic to make the town believe that she's always been Hayley's sister, so Emily could take care of her without suspicion. It really is too bad this video was uploaded in the morning, if you put it up around lunch I definitely would have had an afternoon 🍔 while I watched

@@frag2k12 Maybe he found it too hard to deal with the fact that his daughter's kindness in wanting to keep Haley company has led to him now being the one that's alone. I'm sure Emily didn't see it that way - he's got all those spirits to talk to, after all. But it's not the same. And his work is too important for him to keep being driven to distraction by these petty preoccupations of the heart. So, he did what he thought was necessary. And yet even with his considerable power, his love for his daughter proved stronger still, which is why he couldn't forget their relationship completely.

from what I've gathered emily is ridiculed amongst prospective farmers if anything for her crystal magic and eccentricity if anything. sure, meditation with gemstones can give off essential oils/anti-vax vibes if you're really cynical, but I think these people forget that they just visited a literal wizard in the forest after using a warp totem to fight the shadow spirits in the mountains. there's a real disconnect from reality that isn't acknowledged.
she is clearly the most mature adult amongst the candidates and doesn't require the farmer to actually become a decent person. she is always open-minded and kind in her dialogue, a bit like leah really. except leah is perhaps the most popular villager period.

I’m down with Emily not needing the farmer “to grow” as a person, but I don’t feel like her dialogue or heart scenes show how she and the farmer are bonding and becoming closer. When she expresses feelings for the farmer after the fashion show, it’s always so confusing to me. I don’t feel the chemistry like I can with other candidates.

Emily is my favorite spouse, and her being the wizard's daughter would make a lot of sense. My personal theory has always been that she's actually a jumino (or possibly a collective of several) who took on human form in response to Haley's extreme sense of loneliness, isolation, and directionlessness. After a short time of living as a human, she started to really enjoy it and started to think and act more like a human, while retaining several distinctly junimo-like traits. She's helpful, loving, spiritual, very in-touch with nature and the ethereal plane, and wants to help make the community a better place (thus working with Gus, who is the closest thing Pelican Town has to a therapist -- she doesn't just work at the saloon for money; she does it to provide a sympathetic and supportive ear and to dispense sage advice).
And then the farmer comes along and at first seems to just be another human who needs help and guidance, only to prove to also be in communion with the Forest Spirits. Of course it was inevitable that Emily would form a close bond with the farmer on that basis alone, and the farmer helping rebuild the community center and being a friend to the other junimos only increases Emily's admiration and affection. (Emily not being human may also be why she doesn't notice Clint's feelings for what they are. He's the opposite of "close to the forest" after all, so they're like oil and water.)
And that bear? Totally Emily's wingman...

Emily is absolutely adorable but, even in a game with magic and spirits and living shadows who can either beat you up or move in and become your bff, she is nothing like any of the other characters. I feel like she experiences less actual character growth than a lot of the possible spouses, but only because she already starts from a position of knowing exactly who and what she is, and of happily being a caregiver and helper to her entire community. I am super fond of a lot of the characters in the game, but Emily stole my ace heart in a way none of the others could 🥰 She is definitely more forest spirit than pixelated human 💚

I hadn’t thought about the possibility that Emily had moved back to the home when the parents went travelling, especially based on how their rooms are set up. Good catch~
As for why I don’t vibe with Emily as a marriage candidate, it’s because her heart scenes and dialogue don’t really feel like the farmer and Emily are bonding or growing closer. She sees the farmer in her dreams, but there isn’t any interaction. In the parrot heart scene, the farmer isn’t there at all. The dance scene is cute, but it’s kinda random and not even a case of “here’s how you make me feel,” the way Leah’s statue is done. Even Abigail’s heart scene has you playing an instrument with her. So, the farmer passively watching Emily vibe doesn’t click. The fashion show is cool in showing Emily’s passions, but it still doesn’t feel like the farmer has contributed to this progression. So when she expresses her feelings for the farmer here, and later they spend the night together in the 10-heart scene, it just feels out of nowhere. Platonic to me, not romantic. I’ve had to share beds and sleeping bags with friends many times, so maybe I’m also reading that scene differently than it’s intended, haha.
Since Emily wasn’t originally a marriage candidate, I feel like her scenes and dialogue weren’t adjusted much when she was made available to date/marry, and I feel that disconnect. I don’t think it’s impossible to find a romantic tilt to Emily’s interactions with the farmer, but I do think it’s harder to find that chemistry based on the interactions we’re given. I suppose there is an argument to be made that your forest magic calls to each other, but that would create a very different vibe, hmmmmmmm.
As usual, you’ve given me lots to ponder, and while a 🍔 isn’t a usual breakfast choice, I feel like having one for some reason. Awesome video, Leap~

I honestly appreciate how different Emily is! She's a very spiritual person (rightfully so in Stardew Valley) and her dream about the Farmer immediately makes it obvious to her that you'll be very close just not how. She's in the same boat as Shane where a lot of their heart scenes are just not romantic but still good at establishing a growing bond. They feel more like people with their own lives to me rather than only progressing in life only due to player action.
My headcanon as to why she's a lot more platonic is that she simply goes with the natural flow much more than other people, which is really emphasized at the end of the season dialogue when you marry her. She already knows she'll be close to the farmer so why worry too much about labeling what exactly the relationship she has with the player? I also like to think that she's been waiting for someone with a similarly open mind to share her colorful dance with and opens up to you when she sees enough of your character to trust you.

I actually love Emily for that exact reason. She's her own person who does her own things, and even invites you to hang out with her if you want. Even Leah needs the Farmer's advice on how to proceed with her art.
She's like a girlfriend but with a big emphasis on the friend" part. Someone who will be there for you no matter what (she even says this verbatim in her 14 hearts event).

She has heavy ties to the mermaids and even displays psychic magic like them.
She has a strong connection to Stardrops, which Willy says is connected to mermaid legends.
Ginger Island is also an island of sapient parrots, mermaids and magic crystals.

as strange as she is, i found her endearing, and she was actually my first marriage in stardew! i dont remember quite why, i think its because she was simple to gift and... had a very fun, happy personality. right from the get go, shes fun and weird. she has a nice balance of being able to have fun and having a positive attitude towards things, and gettings things done when they need to. she can be serious when she needs to be.
its definitely funny that shes clearly based on the stereotype of people who think gems are magical and healing and all that, but that isnt far off in stardew valley.

I have THE STRONGEST feelings for Emily out of all the female marriage candidates. I always somehow end up getting 8 hearts with her by the end of, like, summer year 1 and seem to always be teetering on the brink of marrying her in a new playthrough, but then I remember that I'm either too introverted or too gay for that
Emily is what I call a "nuclear reactor of joy" for the valley. And the vocals during her parrot cutscene (song of the feathers if i recall correctly) reminds me of shoegaze in a way. So... Emily is quite a catch in my books.

Emily is an interesting marriage candidate, she's very self sufficient and is very much a self made woman. I think her character arc is a little muddled since she was one of the last candidates to be added and her romance was grafted on. But ultimately I think it works -- either you fit into her schedule or you don't, and if you don't then she's content to be friends with you and keep doing her own thing. Very true to life to depict someone who is only interested in a romance if she can do it on her terms. I like the tent scene since it shows that Emily cares about the farmer enough to cuddle up to them which is a nice way for Emily to be romantic with the farmer without sacrificing her independence.

I started off being a bit weary of Emily as she reminded me of my mum's old raw food/you can cure anything by eating only bananas and doing yoga friends mixed with the 'quirky girl' stereotype. After playing for a while now and also going from my early to mid-late 20s she's grown on me a lot and is now my favourite marriage candidate. I realised I was kinda projecting and the character hadn't actually shown any of those kind of traits, and there's nothing wrong with spirituality or eating healthily if it doesn't become extreme or a superiority complex. I like that she steps in to take care of her sister, works a full time job &c and her and Shane having a nice casual chat at the bar in the Clint heart event really made me like both Emily and Shane more, seeing their friendly interactions. She's actually a very grounded person who just has a passion for dancing and crystals.

Emily was my first stardew marriage! A few things stood out to me. First, she's one of the few townsfolk who even acknowledge the supernatural all over the place. Second, the heart scene with the bird really endeared me to her, and I feel like she's possibly on the spectrum, like me. I know that's not a canon thing, but it makes sense to me. Third, she's a little nuts in a fun way, it's implied you hook up with her in the woods. Plus, fashion is the true endgame.

She doesn't have much development as a character, and that's what is most interesting to me. Everyone else you can see a new side of, but Emily is just....always great. The only thing bad about her is maybe her portrait is a little too intense. Bit of a serial killer vibe, but other then that, she has no negatives.

I've always thought of Emily as someone, who is into crystals, rituals, loves astral projection, lucid dreaming, zodiac signs, and someone who passionately explores their beliefs. She gives off this "witchy" type of girl, and that is why she is portrayed as someone who can talk to plants and is sympathtetic towards animals. I don't necessarily think she is the wizard's daughter, but she definetely could learn from his some of the techniques, as she seems to be a perfect candidate with enough experience.

I love Emily, and i love her view on life and her passionate nature, shes so lively and not afraid to be herself, even when it gets very weird, and i find her very inspirational, and i feel included, that just because you're weird or have special interests, doesnt mean you don't belong, you belong just as much as everyone else, and that makes me feel more at peace with myself.

I still maintain that Emily is part mermaid and that's the whole 🍔.

There is so much pointing towards it, it's crazy:
- Emily has only ever shown soft spot for parrots and fish, which are associated to pirates and mermaids.
- Ginger Island is an island full of sapient parrots, mermaids and magic crystals.
- Willy says Stardrops are connected to mermaid legends. Stardrops are powerful psychedelic-dream magic. Guess what Emily's first heart event is. (Also, Emily's favorite movie is the one about Stardrops.)

I love Emily! She was my choice in my first playthrough. I identify with her in some aspects, as liking mysticism (I'know, I'm a Buddhist and I love learning about Eastern spirituality), and having a lot of passion for creating things and expressing ourselves. I'm still a newbie in the community so I haven't married anyone else so far (only Sophia from SVE) but I have a feeling she'll be always my favourite.

I like this theory because it explains Emily's powers she seems to have. Wizard could have both Abigail and Emily as his daughters. Maybe Hayley is too but her powers are dormant?

I like the idea that Emily moved back to help take care of Haley. I remember thinking "if I married Emily, realistically would Haley be able to care for the house on her own?"
Emily is a little out there, and she doesn't feel like she has a deep connection with the farmer. To be fair, most of the farmer's relationships are fairly surface level IMO, but the only time Emily interacts with the farmer 1 on 1 before they start dating is when she just decides to show off her dancing lol.

my first playthrough, having seen only one streamer play stardew about 3 times, i bought and started the game wanting to marry Emily. but apparently the thought was too stuck in my mind because i unthinkingly named my character Emily AND gave her blue hair (though a different shade) and when i met Emily and spoke to her i was like 'omg i can't marry emily as an emily look alike' (at least not in a serious non crack playthrough) and married Leah instead. and since my irl name is Leah, i couldn't escape the name drama even then lol

Emily has been my absolute favorite character in the entire game ever since I started playing it. She's so kind and interesting, and one of the only people who respects Linus and his lifestyle, which is a huge plus since Linus is my second favorite character. Though, I don't like the idea of her being the Wizard's daughter, even though it does make sense. I like her for her, in that all of those things like talking to plants and animals is just part of who she is. Tying that back to the Wizard's magic instead just makes her feel less unique and fun.

I always thought of it as their parents died while traveling and Emily just has a bad concept of time, Although the idea where she is the Wizard's daughter does make a bit more sense, although possibly Emily could have lived with Sandy, I mean we never see her outside the Oasis but its plausible that she lives elsewhere in the Calico desert, I mean if I got into modding, I would add a Calico desert expansion to have a couple of small houses based on Arizona and Mexican architecture, possibly have a few more magical ideas in the desert considering the Dwarvish Shrine where you get the Galaxy Sword. Perhaps Emily has a magical connection to Dwarves or an unknown species in the Stardew Valley universe that stay to the desert sands. I mean she is Sandy's only friend, so perhaps they were dating before Emily went back to Stardew Valley.

I'm a year late lol but someone on the Stardew subreddit pointed out a bunch of evidence pointing to the fact that Emily might be part mermaid lol. From hating a lot of the fish gifts to the added stardrop tea dialogue with Emily knowing about the tea giving you vivid dreams and Willy only hearing about them from Mermaid legends. Stardew valley is so open for interpretation, it's so funny that even after all this time people still find new things to point out about it.

My first time playing SDV, I married Emily. This wasn't long after the update that made this an option, but I kinda dug the blue hair, so I was happy to hear about it. She's very sweet, a bit quirky at times, but it's clear she has everyone's best interests at heart. definitely top-tier. One thing I was a little disappointed in was how quickly the fashionista side of her personality got overtaken by her more hippy attitude after eight hearts. I liked both things about her, it was strange that she almost completely dropped her interest in making clothes. At least, it seemed that way when I first married her. This was way back before the massive updates that CA rolled out, so maybe something changed. Still, solid marriage candidate.

I love Emily! I’ll marry some of the other bachelorettes from time to time, but she is my main ❤️. I love how weird she is and how she is passionate about so many things. I find it endearing that she cares for the community so much even though she admits to feeling different and not belonging. I think she want to help other not feel that way as well. I also find it funny that even when I’m dating her Clint will ask me to help woo her for him.
I’ve been a strong believer in Emily being the wizards kid for a long time. Maybe Abigail is also his kid, or maybe she’s a red herring. She knows about magic including junimos (although maybe she’s referencing them as a video character?). The whole entering dream thing is a big one. She might be slightly psychic considering how often she bring up that she just knew you’d be close, marry, reach the summit once you do those things. And either she or Haley mention how sometimes they wonder if they’re actually related since they’re so different, maybe it cause they’re actually half sisters.
