I know this is a super old video but it helped me so much when I installed My lift. Gave me the confidence to do it my self. Thanks for the time you put into this video.
Thank you so much. I’m glad it helped out.
Thanks for sharing the Ironman 4x4 suspension with us. We're considering their set-up.
Wanderlost Overland thank you. Trevor and I have been watching your channel for a while. You are both hysterical and very informative. It’s a great kit. The 4Runner is a little stiff in the back because Trevor hasn’t gotten his drawer system yet. Still a great ride.
Thanks!
One of the best things I have done to the garage is the 4' LED lights. Paint correction/waxing, maintenance and all other kinds of things are so much easier now with better lighting.
You dont need to loosen or take off the bar btw. Just take off the shock, disconnect the sway bar, and then jack up one side of the axle to be able to remove the spring. I put in an OME 2895 this way with no issues. The rear is like a 15-20 min job.
Enjoyed the detail and humor- great job as always!
Thank you very much!!!
Did you go with 3" in the front and 2" in the rear or 3" all around ?
Just ordered this kit, but for a 2017 Tacoma. Ha...but you already know this..because you liked my post on IG! 👊💥
I went with the performance springs up front and the constant 440lbs leaf springs for the rear. Mainly because of the canopy, RTT and bedslide weight.
Let me knowhow they ride i been debating if i want to change my bilstein 5100
pdx.trailerguy I’m sure you are loving that Ironman Kit.
@@AdventureBuilt yes for sure! It drives very nice on road and off road.
pdx.trailerguy what’s your IG
Ok, when you guys started, it looked like a mirror with the symmetry of the system and the wall and your clothing. The twins. lol. Love you guys! Thanks for the entertainment and education.
Haha nearly. Thank you very much!!!
I just got my ironman4x4 suspension for my 4 runner. I didnt have to disconnect the upper control arms though. This video helped alot
Oh man, congrats and that is so good to hear. Let me know how much you like it.
Guys, thank you for the video. I just installed the Ironman FCP complete kit on my 2021 4runner. Yours,
Aired-Down Overland and Wanderlost overland channels were my primary source on how to and also for motivation to DIY. I may have watched them 100 times. Thank you once again for taking time to make these videos and helping the community.
Did you have all four sides even measurements, i have my front passenger side about 2/8th higher than the Front driver and about 3/8th on the rear side. Did you adjust the height later, please let me know.
Since that install we have actually gone back and raised up Trevor’s 4Runner to give him 2.5” in the front and 2.75” in the rear. It’s a great kit for sure.
@@AdventureBuilt cool… I got 3” prebuilt from Ironman, looks like it raised almost 4”… based on my previous stock ground to fender line measurements… I am waiting for the front bumper… it may settle little.. eventually will have to get the 33s, bumper, skid plates and see how it rides then adjust the front coils as needed.. hope you guys did not have any CV issues in long run.
@@AdventureBuilt cool… did you have remove the coil overs or made the adjustments on the vehicle
@@pbaireddy we tried our best to adjust on vehicle but it’s crazy hard to turn the adjustment wheel with the tool. Way better to do it off vehicle or at least at full droop.
I love that Ironman green. I want to paint my brake calipers to match
Awesome video guys!
Did you have to make any adjustments after the lift to the front? Do you have a before and after measurements?
We honestly just recently raised the front and the rear to get a bit of extra clearance. Pretty sure it was 2.5” front and back.
-well helloooo 😂
-lugs from heavennnn 😂
Nice Video, learned a lot, thanks!
Next tire put WildPeaks man! Forget KO2 >>> der Overrated Tires.
Thanks and they work pretty well. Check out or desert video pushing the limits of our rigs. They stick like glue, mostly.
If you’re ever in the rain after you put some miles on the KO2’s you’ll understand what he’s talking about, they hydroplane out here in the PNW and have caused multiple accidents or close calls.
Seattle808 oh man. First I’m hearing about those issues. We don’t get much rain in the desert but will definitely be cautious. Hopefully getting some new wheels and tires soon anyway.
He doesn't know the difference between a nut and a bolt yet here you are watching.
I keep telling him that words have meaning!!!
Are you able to adjust the front coilovers on the vehicle with the iron man wrench? Instructions say you cannot do it. Curious if it's possible. Thanks!
On the Foam Cell Pro Kit that is on the 4Runner you can adjust with the spanner wrench. However on my nitro shock it on Tacoma you can not. I think it depends on what kit you get. Best bet is the call Ironman and make sure if that is important to you. Honestly once you get it set you probably aren’t going to adjust anything.
Just ordered the foam cell pro stage 2 last week but the only options available was the 2.5" performance front coil and 2" performace rear coil. Do you think this will give my 4runner a leveled look, because I'm looking to get slight rake in the back but not the factory rake.
I think you will be totally fine. Only one way to find out. Good luck!!!
Did Trevor have to get a spacer kit for the wheel? I just got the Cell Foam pro stage 3 and was told my from tires will rub against the Ironman upper control arms
Trevor did get a wheel spacer to not rub but it depends on your wheel backspacing. Hope this helps.
@@AdventureBuilt so I had my Ironman Cell Foam Pro Stage 3 suspension installed a few wells ago. I have the TRD Pro wheels on 285/70R17 Wildpeaks A/T and I don’t have any issues with rubbing etc really happy with this suspension so far. Would like to say I really like and enjoy your videos. Your DIY b videos have been very helpful.
Can you do the UCA before installing the coilover?..seems easier that way.
You definitely can do that. It doesn’t need to be done in any certain order.
How does the ironman kit compare to the bilstein 6112 and 5160 set up?
I honestly don’t know anything about the Bilstein setups so I can’t give you a comparison. I can tell you it is a great kit. Watch some of our adventures and watch it work.
Nice video, thanks for sharing 👍
how is the highway and normal daily drive with these shocks? do you feel the bumps on the streets?
They offer a great ride. In stock wheels and tires the ride is just a pinch softer than stock. 115k miles later and still running strong.
Ive been looking at lifts for my 3rd gen tacoma for a while. I really like the ironman stage 2 really because of the bang for your buck. I almost feel like its too go to be true. any issues with this build? or have you put any thought into doing a follow up review on this suspension?
I actually just installed the stage 2 kit with Nitrogen shocks on my Tacoma. It’s a great kit. Just attempted the Alpine Loop in Colorado with it. Performed flawless.
Thanks for the video. Just came across this channel. Very informative. Deciding between the Nitro or the foam cell. Just one additional question, how much weight are the foam cell’s going to add to the rig? Enough to effect mpg, am I a going to feel that extra weight like going from street tires to MTs? Thanks 🙏
how do you like the suspension set up now?
Trevor has over 110k miles and just now showing signs of age. Absolutely loves the Foam Cell Pro kit!
What are your thoughts on the Ironman Foamcell that you have installed?
once you take off the stock cotter pin, it can't be used again right? so I assume the new cotter pin/castlenut is new from ironman?
P JB sorry for the delayed response but yes Ironman supplies new cotter pins.
You guys are pro
Thank you very much.
Aussie 200 series Landcruiser. Worst suspension I ever had installed on 5 Landcruisers. The ride was total crap even on poor sealed roads so the dealer gave a full refund once I replaced the whole suspension. I would never use Ironman again and for some reason making a nice riding vehicle into a work truck seems to be all these shops want.
Just had the stage 3 foam cell pro kit installed. 3 weeks later and the upper control arms are squeaking like crazy. It’s driving me nuts! Any suggestions? 😪
Really weird. I would make sure that all the bolts are torqued properly. Some shops won’t take the time to look up each torque spec. Also put a go pro near the squeak and make sure it is the control arm. I had a squeak in my Tacoma and it was the sway bar.
@@AdventureBuilt Might actually be the front struts. Brought it back for a re-torque and everything came out fine. No explanation as to why it sounds like a rusty see-saw.
How has the suspension help up to this point. Do you recommend that suspension for overlanding? I see you guys were out by what looks like the "White Tank Mountains..."
Well hello neighbor! The Ironman 4x4 stage 2 with Foam Cell Pros has help great. No problems at all. I would definitely recommend it for your 2021 4Runner. You won’t be disappointed!!!!
@@AdventureBuilt thank you for the feedback. I truly appreciate it!
i am having a clicking sound everytime i hit a hump/bump. i have a stage 3 set up. what could it be?
I have no idea. That are a lot of moving parts on these kits. I would start by going through the entire kit and check the torque on every bolt. Then look for any damage where paint is rubbing off. That is usually a sign of something not clearing like it should. When all else fails put a go pro on a magnetic base mount and place it looking at where the sound is coming from. Start recording until you hear the noise a few times. Then watch the video and hopefully you will figure it out. Best of luck.
@@AdventureBuilt thank you for the feed back! what my mechanic basically told me was the swaybar could possibly be hitting the coils, they recommend relocating the swaybar
..when i contacted ironman4x4 they said thats impossible and wont give me a relocation plate. they also said that its possible that the swaybar is hitting the skid plate...
Hi! What size tires are you using? You just helped me make a buying decision! Thank you!
Thanks man. 33” all terrains. Good size for the lift!
I see you’re using the stock Toyota Off Road wheels. Are you using any wheel spacers to avoid tire rub? Thanks!
So it has the Tacoma lean of 1/2"
Did you install the 2.5/2 inch kit or the 3/2 kit?
How is the handling and rude comfort on the road when truck is not loaded down?
Update on how it has held up, reliability?
It’s a very reliable suspension kit. Trevor has over 110k miles and still going strong. Runs good while running light. We adjusted the suspension as he got heavier.
How have the UCAs held up?
Did you do the 2.5” front or 3” front? Rears?
Thanks .
What was the cost to put the Ironman shocks on?
The price of the system is dependent on your vehicle but we did the install ourselves so that part was free!
@@AdventureBuilt I was asking because a Toyota dealership installed those shocks and charged 3,500 for the add on. Not many people know, all these lift shocks need to be removed and rebuilt. If a dealership does the lift, do they have a warranty on them? Most people aren't like you, they can't do this type of work. They lack the skill and the tools. What comes easy to you, is unthinkable to most. If you step out of your bubble into another, you'll feel the same way. How are you with shorting the stock market, or being a homicide detective? Can you put out a building that's on fire? Do you know how to survive at sea, alone, in the water, after your boat sank? ect. most are really good at some things and take it for grantiid. Among other things, I'm a Bed Bug specialist, and no, I don't expect you to know everything about it.
He has to be a veteran!
Sure is.
How is the upper control arm working out
Does the 4Runner have KDSS? Wanting to be sure a 3in won’t cause any issues to my KDSS equipped 4Runner. Thanks!
No KDSS but don’t thing you will have issues. The last KDSS system I removed the lines were inside the frame rail for the most part. Be sure to look before you cut!!!
Ironman has info on their site RE: kdss. They link to info on how to recallibrate KDSS with the IM lift.
I'm debating if I should go with ironman or icon for my 19 4runner, how's the ride when it comes to offroad conditions, is it smooth on the bumps?
So here is the thing comparing Ironman 4x4 and Icon. Pros of Ironman 4x4 great price point, high quality (go with Foam Cell Pro) UCA use stock ball mount. The pros of Icon is very high quality with a great history of performance and reliability. The shocks are also completely rebuildable. The cons of Icon are the price point and the upper control arms ball Mount is proprietary and does not cross over so if one fails it is a long wait for a new one. It is a complete toss up and you can’t go wrong with either. Go with what you can afford but investing a little more now will save you from upgrading later. Good luck.
@@AdventureBuilt I appreciate the feed back
I'm trying to decide on a lift for my GX470. It's tough because the stock ride is wonderful. Would like to have something that's nice and comfortable on road and can do some light off-roading. How is the ride on the Ironman? I'm looking at the nitro shock system.
Tickle Fingers it is a great ride. I highly recommend Ironman 4x4. I would say go with the Foam Cell Pro. You won’t regret it. The technology is way better than the Nitro Shocks. IMHO.
@@AdventureBuilt Thanks. I got a deal on the Eibach kit that I couldn't refuse. Still waiting for it to arrive.
Just got a GX 460, going to do this lift👍🏼
I only have one question ... it is necessary to change the size of Rin and tires when installing lift kit ????
You definitely do not need to, but putting on larger tires gives you the ground clearance. The lift kit just makes room for bigger tires along with better off-road performance. I hope this helps.
how is the long term review sir?
Still running strong. Trevor has almost 100k miles on this lift kit and loves it!
@@AdventureBuilt this is ironman foamcell right ? not the pro? thanks sir
@@arkdave yea it’s the Foam Cell Pro. There is only 1 Foam Cell Shock.
Did you guys need to regear?
No regear needed!!!
Is this 2.5 front and 2.5 rear?
Yea it’s a 2.5” front and rear but Trevor had it set very soft so it’s probably more like 2-2.25”.
How much is the kit that you installed for your 4Runner?
I would check the website ironman4x4america.com/foam-cell-pro-suspension-kit-suited-for-toyota-4runner-2010-stage-3/
It goes on sale all the time.
@@AdventureBuilt thanks
Do not hit the front lower shock mount with 135 foot lbs. 70 foot lbs is the stock rating. You will destroy the threads at 135
Do you need to do a front diff drop with this kit?
No you sure don’t.
@@AdventureBuilt Thanks guys, Did you do the 2.5 of 3 inch?
Nevermind answered my own question by reading your article.
Just got my stage 2 kit in the mail and have been researching install videos. I notice that you installed the new front strut before taking out the old uca. Can you take out the old uca prior to installing the new strut to help keep it protected?
Nice man. You won’t be disappointed. You can absolutely take out the old UCA bring to installing the new strut. I actually told Trevor that as we were almost done. Oh well. Next time. Thanks for watching.
@@AdventureBuilt For sure! Thanks
How have the ironman been the last few months? Any issues at all?
Trevor has been running the Foam Cell Pro Stage 2 just over a year and not a single issue or complaint. It’s a great kit!!!
What made you go with stage 2? I have a 2020 4runner and im trying to figure out which stage to go with?
I would definitely go with the Foam Cell Pro Shocks over the Nitro shocks because they handle heat much better. If I could do it again I would go with the stage 3 to get the longer track bar. They are on sale now and totally worth the upgrade. I hope this helps.
If you have KDSS on your 4runner, go with Stage 2. (I emailed them to get a sure answer.)
Wondering how it compares to the 2019 fox suspension on the trd off road.
I have never ridden in that setup. Worth a try though. Thanks for watching.
are these performance springs?
Yes they are the performance springs.
Does anyone know a place in socal that is familiar with ironman 4x4 for an install?
Honestly any good suspension install shop should be able to install the Ironman 4x4 kit. They all install very similar.
Did you all install a Diff drop with this kit?
Tyler Thompson we did not. The kit didn’t call for one and we haven’t noticed any vibrations.
How much lift did you achieve? Great install video
A A thank you very much. The front ended up with 2.5” and the rear 2.75”. It’s really nice. Great ride. Highly suggest it.
@@AdventureBuilt ist softer versus the stock shocks and springs? am planning on this setup
I don’t know if I would say the suspension is softer because it handles very nicely on the street. It just absorbs and rebounds the bumps offroad better. It’s a great kit.
So you actually increased the front-end rake by .25”? Thanks.
Biscuits would’ve made the install easier
