Dude....no....The 930 is using Nokia's own Pureview sensor (Who actually manufactures them I don't know). Just because they are the same resolution doesn't mean they're the exact same thing. Its like saying Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are the same people because they're both rich.

Just to mention, a tip about the camera.
Try to force LOW ISO and -1 or - 2 sharpness, and -1 exposure. The software now is a mess, HTC doesn't seems to know how this sensor work. That config could bring better results, in special in low light.
Just to reinforce, LOW ISO = 200 or less.

I had the HTC One M8 but dropped and damaged it. I now have the M9. No complaints. Fast and responsive.
These phones had character and its unique style, you could tell right away this was an HTC unlike today, every single phone looks almost the same now
God I miss so much about this phone. Still the best sounding phone ever, and the feel of the curved metal body made it so 5 years later flat glass STILL feels wrong.

I have an HTC One M8 Eye and HTC One M9+ and frankly, I wouldn't want any other phone, just keep them as they are but update the software (and make the changes in hardware needed). HTC phones today are mediocre at best and lack everything. The HTC 10 wasn't worth getting (although I regret not going for it at the time) but frankly if HTC today came up with the 10 (or even M8 and M9/M9+) with some modifications (USB Type C for example) then they'd really sell well especially if the price was competitive.

Bought one brand new in box for $50, unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp, and installed Android 11. The 800 series of processors is pretty great, this thing runs like a decent mid range phone now.
How's it doing now
As a person who now has the HTC One M9, I could say the the camera is now actually stupendous. I was dealing with the exposure problem as well, but the update now virtually gets rid of all that, along with very crispy looking photos 😊 It's a good phone to use, and I love it!!!
People say the M9 overheats but they have yet to see my M7 with Netflix. That thing gets too hot to even touch.

Drake McGowan Mine got to 180+ Farenheit (80 or so Celcius) while using wireless charging, sometimes gets up to 150+ in daily use like browsing Reddit.
I had this phone when it came out, was always an andriod lover. This phone was so far ahead of the game when it came out. To this day is still my favorite phone I've ever owned. Wish they would revive the HTC One series phones. The would be a power house today.

Man, the 4K video is great! At 8:00 I can see every individual pixel on the phone display. Your video quality adds a lot to these reviews.
Using this phone at work for testing. It's quite damn good. Speakers are unbelievably amazing, it's easily got the best sound of any phone I've ever used. The software's responsive snappiness rivals that of the Nexus itself, and it has never frozen or crashed when I had a lot of multitasking apps open at the same time.
Keep in mind: right out of the box, you may not feel like it's built "for you" or works the way you want it to. You have to tinker around in the settings for a few minutes to turn off things that annoy you or activate special gestures that you think you'll use. You don't quite get the "it just works" experience as you do with iOS. You'll have to customize it for what you want it to do, and it grows on you over time.
9.5/10, HTC's best one yet. The camera is definitely an issue, as MKBHD pointed out. It's got some really strange exposure problems which can completely throw off your lighting, but it has managed to take some really good shots too. I'd rate this as one of the best Android phones available right now.

All people hating on m9, or HTC in general, I've tried alot of phones...samsung,sony,apple and HTC,i loved the htc more than any other phone i have ever tries or seen,it's something when you love you stuck with,if you haven't tried it yet please shut your mouth cuz ut's a great phone and you can't know its greatness unless you try it

Yeah, I have to concede that the camera did not work out. I was hoping that it could be fixed in the software, but apparently not. They needed to go with a tried and true sensor, with OIS, and nail the software. The software part they got (imho). I was at a formal dinner a few weeks ago, and a guy was taking pictures of the couples and giving the option of taking a shot with their own phone. I handed him my M8 for the pic of my wife and I, and back at the table I cropped and added some effects which only took a few seconds. Next thing I know everyone at our table had their phone out trying to do the same thing. They even handed me their phones to do it for them, and I had to direct them to the app store.
For the M10, they need to put two or three people in charge of just the camera, get the best sensor with OIS that money can buy, and go from there...

Finally picked up the M9 yesterday. Pictures don't do this phone justice. Its absolutely amazing visually and radiances elegance in the hand.
If the M9 had the LG G4's Camera, it would be one of the best phones ever. I really dont know why is Htc holding down on the Camera knowing that other rivals have amazing ones and the Camera is one of the most important features in a Phone.
***** That might be for your case. But for some people, the camera is a deal breaker. Specially for those who love taking pictures, selfies and have active instagram and snapchat accounts.
For me, i prefer a nice camera because i love shooting videos and editing them afterwards.

Love my m9! The camera is actually pretty damn great during the day, which is when I take most of my pics, at night it could be much better but none the less, awesome damn phone, best built phone on the market and the most gorgeous IMO

The Lumia 930, regarded by many as one of the best phones when it comes to camera quality, uses a similar sensor, albeit the one on the M9 is slightly newer, but performance, in theory, should be similar
I'm just thinking that the M9 has horrendous post-processing algorithms and/or the lack of OIS hurts it as well.
to be honest I really like the HTC One M9 even though it doesn't have a good camera it's still a good phone and HTC has really stepped up their game.
Was a big fan of HTC until my M7 died & I had to deal with their customer service to replace / repair it. Have been without it since the start of this month & the latest I heard yesterday was that they're waiting for parts. Very disappointed with this whole experience to the point that I'm considering getting an iPhone. At least when something goes wrong with it you can just it to the Apple store for a quick fix / replacement.
ranndino I upgraded from the iPhone 6 to the Galaxy S6 and it was a HUGE upgrade for me. The Galaxy S6 is the best designed and most technologically advanced smartphone in the industry, period. Best camera and best display. I love my Galaxy S6!

Bought it back in August 2016, still runs well to this day. Although by now it's battery has worn out a bit so it needs to be charged twice within 24 hours usually.

I was really a big fan of the way htc's looked nack then and tbh it still looks super hot and super classy but i bought an s6 instead because it was better overall and more reliable . But watching this phone after such a long time i still love its design and dosent looked dated at all

My OnePlus One recently broke so I decided to upgrade. I was debating between the N6, S6/S6 Edge, and the M9. I eventually went with the M9 and couldn't be happier! It flies through basic functions, can handle hard core games without lag, and looks way more beautiful than pretty much any other smartphone available. The camera is alright, but I only take a few pictures a month so it was never something I cared too much about. My only real complaints are that I wish the battery was bigger and I wish it ran stock Android. Apart from that, I'm very happy with my purchase :)

Recently purchased a m9 on a contract for 2 years, best phone I've ever owned, I had an M8 prior to this and you can tell the difference in the performance, the speakers sound similar I couldn't tell the difference & everyday use of the camera is very good, battery lasts more than it needs to.
If you're upgrading from an M8 or any older handset I strongly recommend this phone. The processors do not slow down at all.
I gotta be the only person that just does not give af about these phones cameras. theres no reason for half of these phone reviews to be 50% about the camera man. Am I missing something here??

Jonathan Mota Same. Got my S6 Edge last monday (30th) and couldn't be happier. Touchwiz is lighter, snappier, and overall leaps and bounds better than the old touchwiz.
I had a M9 for three years and it was a hot mess, but I loved it, it was like the Alfa Romeo of phones, it has character and you love it with all it's flaws
Actually, Toshiba is perfectly capable of producing great camera sensors. The Lumia 1020 has a Toshiba sensor, and obviously that camera is known for being amazing. I'm pretty sure it's the software that screwed HTC over, and could be fixed through an update.

I don't know why everyone hates on the power button placement. I personally like it on top because when its on the side you could accidentally turn it off when playing a games or watching a video in landscape mode. The camera I think is fine no one really needs top of the line quality pictures on our smart phones and if you do buy a camera. But one thing I don't like about the M9 is the camera module, it looks big and unnecessary to have a big square module on the back.
This review was boring to me, not because of MKBHD rather the device. The M9 just doesn't have a wow factor or any real appeal.
Why did you opt for the M9? Because I'm stupid. It's so bad and incredibly expensive.
so don't make the mistake getting m9. if you really want HTC then get M8 or wait for M10 and see what the reviews are.
If you have turned the phone OFF to save battery (as none replaceable) perhaps for later use and you want to double check later whether you really did turn off or not as you are confused. With a home button you can verify easily as screen will lit up if it's on and won’t if it’s off. However, with no home-button, you end up turning it back on again which is extremely annoying.
I'll be waiting for Sony Xperia Z4.
Look at the Z4 specs...they are almost IDENTICAL to the M9 except a different camera sensor and a 5.2" screen...the rest is Snapdragon 810, 3 gigs RAM, micro SD slot, 1080 display, 2900mah battery..

Actually, I've bought an Asus ZenFone 2 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage plus 64GB microSD additional storage and I am very happy with it. Asus really did a good job with this one.

yeah that's mostly every commenter. every actual youtuber that's worth their weight in salt will tell you that hating apple just because it's apple is stupid. they make mistakes here and there, they aren't the most powerful, they don't have the highest numbers in terms of specs. but they are always consistant. iterative changes, sure, but there aren't really too many giant letdowns with any iteration, which that combined with the ease of use makes it worth the premium to many people since they don't have to sift through a dozen android phones that all have a different Achilles heel and possibly shitty support in one form or another (accessories, life span software-wise, warranty). i've owned both, but in the end i totally get why enthusiasts would pick an android phone, and why most people would go with the (mostly) sure thing. it's just to easy to get hit hard in the gut with something like a shitty camera on half of the android phones.

I bought the HTC One M9 on it's public release date on 10-April-2015. Initially, I didn't like the picture quality either. I adjusted the contrast, saturation and sharpness from zero to one and now I get much better pictures. Marques is right about the responsiveness and the speakers. They are awesome!

Its a very good phone with just a few flaws. If money was an issue, I'd just buy a used m8 since performance between the two is pretty much the same.

Go with the S6, and I'm saying it as an M8 user. The only reason I didn't get the S6 is because it doesn't have dual front facing speakers (I'm already used to those, and everything else literally sounds like shit to me, but if you're no, it won't bother you THAT MUCH) and an SD card slot. It's just a better device all around.
my M9 works great, I've had it for over a year now and it's still going strong. As for taking pictures, well I have a Canon digital SLR camera for that.

Especially the new one with the force touch it's pretty cool. If you're not sure though then go to the Apple Store and try them out.
Depends on what you're studying but if you want a Mac, go with a macbook. A decent PC laptop will work just as well.

If you want portability, go for a laptop. However, I suggest you pick a computer other than a Mac, because as nice as a Macbook is, its specs are not worth the price. If I were you, I'd either grab a Surface 3, a Dell XPS 13, an Asus Zenbook UX305 or an HP Stream 13. They all have their features and flaws, but they are all still worth their prices. As for software, Mac OS X and Windows are both perfectly fine and they can both accomplish the same functions, but for productivity, I'd go with Windows simply because of the easy snapping of windows to the left and right of the screen so you can type your essay in one window and do your research in the other.
If you want a desktop computer, don't get a Mac, like, at all. It's better and cheaper to just build your own PC and install Mac OS X on it. Google "Hackintosh" for more details.

There are other options, such as Motorola, Oneplus, LG, and Google, which can be as good, if not better than, samsung. (Coming from a former samsung user)
the point of having a ton of megapixels on a camera is so that when you shrine it down to the size of other camera photos (like the S6, having 16MP) then the pictures will look identical. megapixels are everything.
I have a One M9 and it's a piece of crap. Lags all the time, camera lags and stutters and autofocuses all the time. The phone has a terrible battery life and a standby mode that barley works, not to mention I regularly have to put my phone in the freezer for a minute or two because it will overhead rediculously while doing basic functions like charging or using Snapchat. I do not reccomend this phone.

For me, it's fine. It's a bit slow, and the camera does get pinkish purple-ish tinted. The selfie camera is a bit jerky, but it's good, and to fix the tinted colour you can just use flash - in the night time, just don't bother
Finn Krygger it's not slow! it's fast it has no lag at all on android i have a tablet that lags on android it self(menu,homescreen,on all of the apps and games) and i don't use camera too much and the resolution is awesome my computer screen has less pixels.
from someone that owns an M7, I think the lollipop update killed the phone, I'm experiencing not only puple-ish tint on the main camera, but also the phone does seem to restart on its own will every now and then. The experience is quite frustrating so I would recommend checking elsewhere.

I just recently upgraded from an iPhone 4s, it is a massive improvement. This phone is very fast., has a great looking screen and excellent sound. I would definitely recommend this phone.

Hey Marques I actually got this phone last year with a heavy duty otterbox and I'd like to point out that the camera lens is actually too big. Like even with with the otterbox on it, something still got inside the opening and shattered my camera lens when I dropped it one day. Ironically, I call it an improvement.
Way too forgiving and too much emphasis on the display. The m8 panel was never one of the best, it was cold, not the best contrast, not as accurate as the iPhone 6 panel or even the nexus 5, not that bright for an LCD, etc. With that logic, every phone with a 1080p display had "one of the best displays" out there. The least they could have done is make the display brighter or make a bigger effort on color accuracy

WOW they took out the screen on time because its worse than the m8 and 3-4 hours SOT should be fucking illegal in 2015... thats terrible. Ill ONCE again stay with my OnePlus one's 6 hours SOT. I will move to the first phone that can manage 6 hours SOT, until then fuck all these phones.

Bought this today. I've read all the reviews of the S6 and I thought this was going to be a difficult choice. When it came down to the decision in store it was a no brainer for me; the m9 just felt like a better made, better feeling phone. The iPhone 6 and S6 just felt cheap to me in comparison. I don't need gimmicks on my phone. I just want a phone that works for me in a day to day situated, one that in a year's time I will still quietly look at and say yeah this is a great phone. That's why I went for the m9. Specs are great and innovation is too but ultimately we all have our reasons for choosing a phone. My reasons keep me coming back to HTC and long may it continue.
But what is the phone I should get S6 or M9

In a span of 3 hours, about 30~% battery was lost, not bad (tons of apps were open too). There was a new update which fixed the HTC Phone's Camera which made pictures a lot better.

I invested so much into this collection of devices. One S (T-Mobile), M8, M9 (wanted the Harmon Kardon edition bad). It satisfied my love for audio. Afterward it was Nexus 6 to LG V20

mine overheats easily and shuts down at 70%. and i cant upgrade the software to android 11+. thats 7 years oof

+CorvettesandGainz i have an m8 for 2.5 years already fav phone of all time and never had a problem with it except the headphone jack now doesnt work and the speakers are low now cause i drop it in milk more then once also battery now is kind of weak but thats to be expected i guess
my friend dropped my m8 and it broke,phone insurance sent me the galaxy S6 and that is a much better phone tbh.
The m8 did have a great interface and was easy to use, but I personally give the phone a 5/10, the M7 was much nicer tbh, minus the camera.
the durability of it is very good though. I have dropped it, thrown it against walls, and even beat on it and it hasnt broken on me yet. It is a VERY solid phone.
