THANK YOU for creating this video! There are too many myths out there about window film breaking glass and seals on dual pane windows. You did a wonderful job explaining window film, what people should look for in an installer, and what to expect overall when working with a window film company.
Justin Beller thank you for the feedback Justin!
Best presentation and explaination that makes sense I've seen and listened to !
We often get part of what we're looking for and sadly dissappointed when the " discount " came in the " shortcut "" on the job .
Thanks ! 5:16 .
I have a new home and it has dual pane windows. I had been wondering if there would be a problem with heat build-up between the panes of glass if I had tinting added. I am happy to hear that it is no longer a problem.
There is a problem you need the right film
@@khashy87 whats the right film?
Came here after reading reviews on Amazon, where customers have reported their double paned windows being cracked after installation.
Super informative! Thanks!
I live in the US and have triple pane windows that were just installed. They were easy to come by at a local supplier.
Congratulations-They are starting to get traction here in the US. We’re seeing them more and more lately.
@@Kolob_Canyons_RanchFinally!
I work for a window film company and we don't talk about any of these things about the correct film size which is non-breakage where do you find this information
Is heat stress on your double pane windows less of an issue if you're in a less hot climate like Ohio?Or if the window is on the northern side of the building & receives no direct ☀️?
Thanks for sharing
My biggest question is would it be ok to put the rainbow decorative privacy window film( the kind that dosnt have sticky just water and clings) on double pane?
Anything stuck to the glass could be an issue - potentially causing glass breakage or seal failure. Light colors absorb less heat, so if anything, your safest bet for privacy is a white frost material.
Great video! May I ask how the warranty works with double-pane windows which are out of the window manufacturer warranty period. Will the film company apply a breakage warranty if we purchase an Eastman or 3M film? Early stages of selecting a film but the breakage risk has me tiptoeing.
You will need to check with the vendor to verify, but generally the window film itself will have a warranty regardless of the window manufacturer's warranty, BUT (big caveat here) the dual pane warranty from the film's manufacturer is only available to cover the windows for the remaining period of a current in-place window warranty. Since your window warranty has expired you will likely not qualify for a dual pane warranty from the film manufacturer.
Can you do a video on dual pane tempered vs annealed and single pane tempered vs annealed? Thanks
Chris, For security, or energy? What specific direction where you thinking?
I was thinking energy, but both would be nice actually. Seeing how the outer pane would break, but the film on inside pane would hold together. I have my own tinting business, and have only started flat glass the past year. I put V41 on a single pane panel about 8’X9’ old building in April, it cracked two weeks ago. $500 warranty helped, but the replacement cost is $1400 since by federal law they have to use tempered on anything over 35sqft.
Chris Evenson Covering the $900 balance is tough, but you can relax knowing the tempered replacement panel will not break from thermal shock. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll add these ideas to my hopper.
I got here just wondering what types of film are generally safer on double pane windows. However, it seems like the suggestion is to just find a professional. I might still do that, but I’m still curious _for my own_ benefit: What is best? I’m assuming as long as it has low absorption (i.e. into the film itself) and higher reflectivity (i.e. even if installed inside the house, reflecting light back out _through_ the two panes of glass and the gas inside) that it’s still fine. Is that correct?
Thanks for the videos!
Most reputable manufacturers have films which will be marketed as dual pane safe. There are some caveats however, and your dealer should enter your windows into a computerized glass check list to ensure no red flags pop up. Over sized, partially shaded, and windows not well ventilated can all be problematic, even if the film is deemed "safe". That is why we say check with your professional dealer, because your specific windows need to be analyzed prior to an installation.
Do you have a location here in Phoenix?
We do not currently have service in Phoenix.
is It safe to use Nano Carbon Window Tint 20% on my new home with double glass?
Do you have service in Sacramento California?
Any buddies in the industry based out of the Chicago area?
Recently moved into a much larger home and want to add a film to all windows to slow potential intruders from B&E. Any specific film for this purpose? It would be 13 windows and a large sliding door.
Hi Eric, try giving Midwest Glass Tinters a call. Good luck with your new place.
If low e coating is on the otside of window, what side do you install tint on?mirrored tint...
Don’t install film on the low-e coating. Generally the coating is in between an IGU or laminate. I’d be surprised if the low-e is on the exterior, so triple check that.
Tint on hurricane windows?
Did he say anything about the static film from amazon?
Watch the video and then you will know he did... or didn't. Maybe.
My window has screens covering the windows on the outside, if I have reflective window film added to the windows that already have traditional window screens how will the screens affect the overall performance of the reflective window film?
Screens will have no negative effects on the film. You’re good!
I’m building a tint business. What’s the best tint company to use?
