  • The day started off with delays caused by a points failure at an undisclosed location. However, a more serious fault quickly brought chaos to the unfortunate travelling public - the video will reveal what had happened.
    It was good to see 35018 back in action after her failure two days previously.

    I didn't realised there was a regular LNER route learner using a 5 car Azuma. They are a rare sight at Heaton! I believe they used to use a 67 when they were using the 91's. I also hadn't appreciated TPE were using 802's on the west coast as I thought the 397's were largely in reliable service now.

    What chaos. You made a good video out of it, looking from the outside it was quite enjoyable but glad I was not caught up in it. They must of been in a hurry to get out of the rain and forgot the tail lamp on the leading end of the 37. It is good they got British India Line repaired quickly and she made good time. @@cloudmansteve Yes they were very strict on incorrect head and tail lights being displayed, but Tim noticed they ran with a white light on the rear of the support coach something I also noticed at York one day and now we see a tail lamp leading the way. Getting tea and biscuits days seem to of gone LOL. If you watch freights in USA they seem to have no rules at all, locos having all kinds of light combinations between coupled units, seems we are heading the same way.

    Hi Tim, another great video with lots of high drama caused by points failure and power line issues. Amazing to see how quickly things get bogged down in situations like this. Would have been fascinating to see the effect on traffic along the WCML north and south of Carlisle. With the mix of traffic and the steam charters thrown in too, you can really see Carlisle being a bottleneck. I am sure that the staff are well used to dealing with this. Great to see it from the outside looking in rather than being a passenger. Take care, Ian

      Thanks Ian - some of the staff that I've talked to in recent days have been pretty p****d off with the whole situation - after all, they end up getting the rough edge of the aggrieved passengers' tongues. Can't say that I envy them their task sometimes.

She dealt with the passengers all the time, and was the first person that the passengers would come into contact with. Now that East Linton Station in East Lothian and Reston Station in the Scottish Borders have opened this year, GNER are hoping to convince the DTp to finance some NOVA DMU’s for ScotRail, to allow them to take over the northern part of their franchise between Newcastle and Aberdeen Edinburgh Glasgow and Inverness. • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  2 года назад +1

      The two inner roads were not designed for the sheer length of modern freightliners - and also have quite tight curves at their entrances and exits which might well require an even stricter speed limit than that which already applies through the Citadel. Many of the long distance freights change drivers at Carlisle and it's easier, quicker and safer to have the replacement man waiting on the platform.

    How did they turn the train around? I expected the engine to move to the front for the return journey to Skipton and either run backwards or go off to a turntable somewhere but our carriage position and seat orientation remained the same which suggests the whole train did a full loop which I didn’t think happened.
    Where / how did they do it?

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  2 года назад +3

      On a quiet day (see ruclips.net/video/5S6eAgefIUo/видео.html) the empty stock is left in the station whilst the steam locomotive moves off to Upperby depot for servicing before using the triangle to the Newcastle line to reverse back into the station. Today however, the situation required removing the entire train as quickly as possible to free up space so the whole set was taken down to Upperby - not an uncommon manoeuvre.
      Turntables, I'm afraid, are a thing of the past. The only ones that I know of in Cumbria are on the narrow-gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.

    What IS THAT WOMAN SAYING.
    I'm PRETTY suss on accents but I have no fucking idea what she's saying.
    Maybe it's not English?
