I have one of these to cut grass on the allotment paths. I was given it for helping clear out a garden. As a soft hand office worker, I enjoy just tinkering with it. I would not dream of taking apart something I paid money for without knowing what I was doing. So it actually has play value just messing about servicing it every autumn. The joy of other peoples junk! It does a job and it’s so old, and if someone pinches it, at least I know they had to work hard to lift and run away with the thing.
I have a atco with a sp engine. Runs and cuts very well. Free too. Metal box. Year..1965. and these are selling for over a ton on fleabay. Added to my my 1980 ransoms mountfeild mascot collections lol. Great vids as always. Yup. Late 80s with that handle n tank and your plastic box.
I have used 1 of those for years. they cut really really well (When) Setup correctly. i do have a couple of videos up where i am using it :-) I would buy another like this. :-)
You can try and back lap it to being the blade back. Also where the throttle lever visit has a center screw. Just do it up a tad and it will hold the lever in place. I have a video on it
You need to adjust the kill switch Paul . The carb is a Dellorto , The quadrant on the top is the choke ,Fully to your right is full on choke middle is half choke fully to the left is normal running .
they generally were good engines, never known of any issues with one, they just tend to keep running, may from time to time need the carb cleaned out but that's about it
Thats good mower,to sharpen blades is pain, remove drive chain use spanner or socket, adust blades closer to the bottom blade, use coarse valve girnding paste, rotate blades backwards, keep doing ,keep eye on edges re adust
These have a Tecumseh USA engine - the older ones have an Italian design Dellorto carb but you can now get many "clones" on E bay for about £14.00. Simple to change .
Bought a new mower in Aldi today, £79.99 125cc 46cm B&S 450e engine self propelled with mulching plug. My Mountfield has been showing its age and just installed new lawns. Didn’t have time to do full pre research and went with the impulse and bought it. Have you seen these? Are they worth it for the money? And also who makes them, nearest I can see to it in terms of spec is maybe a Qualcast, even a couple of common looking non motor parts. Any advice would be appreciated, before the impulse buy I was probably going to be looking at another Mountfield, maybe the SP185, it was either that or a push rotor with roller like my grandads.
Hi great to see you both back again, wow that one is real old school, how ever I have a question if that is OK, mountfield sp185, spark plug keeps blowing out of the engine, could it just want a new plug, or could it be a bigger problem. The mower is about 4 years old.
The aluminium threads are likely to have been stripped out of the cylinder head through over tightening the spark plug and will need repair with a helicoil or similar thread repair kit.
Great video. Can I ask a question? I've got a mower in that hit something hard. I've replaced the flywheel key, checked the ignition coil with multimeter and it still wont start. Its had a replacement blade boss and it has one key way on the blade boss. It's a semi circle shaped for what its worth. I've even drained the old fuel and cleaned the carb too just in case. It's a briggs classic 35. Still no joy. What else should I check?
Hi mate. Been watching you for a long time now great work! Quick question i followed your sv150 carb repair video (i know how much you hate them) 😂 is it normal for the throttle to be wide open all the time? Mine doesnt have the flap on the flywheel that moves it and all the controls doesnt change throttle position at all. Just thought its abit strange to be permenent WOT
I have a 8hp B+S engine from 1988 and I cannot get a spark, I've swapped the ignition coil and the cut out is not connected to anything, but still no spark? I have another good 8hp engine that needs a flywheel if you know where I can get one please? How can I contact you for a chat about this? email or phone number?

Crazy what people throw out! Nice little mowers these!
Nice find Paul, quite possibly the most noisy mowers to move about ever!
You can try and back lap it to being the blade back. Also where the throttle lever visit has a center screw. Just do it up a tad and it will hold the lever in place. I have a video on it
Micks Mowers Cheers Mick! Do you have a backlapping vid?

Mine will only run on full or half choke, any suggestions? TIA
Very interesting mower for sure. Get what you can out of it. Has a good sounding engine so that should be worth something. Thanks for sharing.

I believe the Qualcast punch was made between 1984 to 1994.
Love your channel
Do you do videos Peter
can't find your CD on eBay ?
You can backlap the reel with some cutting compound and an electric drill
Yes
If I found one over here, I’d pay $30.00 just for the novelty of it. Quite sure, I’d piss off the wife. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Well done Paul, i would adjust the blade and keep it, whats £25. Enjoyed your vid as usual.
I think I'd have shown David its good practice to check the oil before you started it.

remove the spark plug and push a screwdriver down the hole. Pull it over and feel if the piston goes up and down
@@MowerMan thanks very much. Tried that just now and yes the piston moves backwards and forwards
Hi mate if u see this great. I have a mower and it runs but the second I try take choke of it dies if you could help would be great
Set the choke. move the cable to a different position and try thinkgs
You should deffo get at least £25 for it. Someone will love to tinker with that.

Sounds like a fly wheel problem
👍
i am not keen on these mowers they were very cheaply made back in the day and a nightmare when the blades are blunt
Is your mower free? Old lady, "yes. It hasn't run for years. " Did you put petrol in it? "it runs on petrol?
Lol
