The most recent tour in Boston, Jeff was using Fender blues deluxe tweed. It was slaved into 4 cabs with 4 12ves in each one. Hiis technique now (as opposed to Blow & Wired) has deliciously gotten the most elusive to any guitarist trying to duplicate . His volume swells, tremolo & picking is all in his right hand without a pick. His fretting hand, well good luck with that. often imitated however never duplicated. He's Gods gift to the electric guitar.
I saw him in Montreal 6th row this past summer and took many picture of his pedals, still got the pictures on my camera never checked them out...got busy! I saw him just last week, obviously blown away and was curious how he gets his sound. I'll check those pics out and post.
I do believe thats my old friend Alan Rogan and he is much missed too, the Master Guitar tech, he worked for Eric on and off, also a mainstay of 42 years for Pete Townsend. Ally
I'm starting to get it, and I actually find it kind of soothing. Lots of people have it, essentially anybody who's been playing since ~1990. Paul Gilbert to Al Di Meola: It's why Meola stopped ripping like he used to on Elegant Gypsy, to stop trashing his hearing.
*peterson tuners* - best tuners on the planet - what! our entire orchestra kept itself well tuned 40 years ago with a peterson strobe. thank y'alls for the best tuner on the planet. edit: i just saw y'alls peterson strobe clip-on. again, what!
Thank you for the comment! We have introduced a new version of the StroboClip that has better battery life, a higher resolution display, USB access for firmware updates at a much lower street price of $59 USD! Find a dealer: www.petersontuners.com/dealers/
The tech on the right is A GOOD PERSON he let me inspect Jeffs guitars in Austin which led to me building Jeff a 5 lb nocaster which he took on the road still cant believe that but he played it at Ronnie Scotts club same tech hands him the guitar for train kept a rolling and green onions he played those with the playboys.. The Tech on the right just took the time with me to show me Jeffs guitars and I spied how they were setup he had 5 strats all named on tape on the top horn of guitar each had names one was bag of shite which was the one he hated the most lol he had bashed it and slammed the body I think to break it lol jamming the strap peg into the body.. tech said it would not stay in tune it was a dog. So I made him a No caster black guard 5 lb instead and had it not been for the man in the glasses being kind to me and letting me spy the gear id have had no idea how to set it up but the last song I played on the guitar before shipping it to Jeffs Managers office Ralph at the time was Train kept a rolling and to see him come out and play that tune on it really was magic there was no way Jeff knew that the guitar just had that sound already so naturally it came out. I miss Jeff Beck I got to meet him in Dallas after that Austin show and by then the guitar was done so he asked me wuts a no casta and I was nervous but that calmed me cause I could just talk about the history of the instrument why it was named that ect and Jeff flipped that nervous switch to picking my brain a bit.. Hes my hero and I thought id write some kind words about his Tech whom I dont know his name he was a great person to me personally and knew I was a huge fan of Jeffs.. Jeniffer Batton was with Jeff that first time and she got me a poster signed by Jeff and sent it too me when they got back from Tokyo. She didnt forget shes a gem of a person also..... Take care of each other out there be good to one another....
Fender now makes Jeff Beck replica fingers in Thailand. Apparently they're modeled on his pre-Yardbirds era, and are randomly included in Squire products as a guerilla marketing tactic.
I got hold of a set of the JB fingers. What I found out through extensive testing is that tone is actually in the gear. The fingers are just there to play the gear. Wish I'd known, could have saved a lot of money.
Damn he has tinnitus and still does the damn thing! WOW. I believe I was recently suffering from this coming off of a super painful tooth infection that I believe spread to an ear infection. I have played guitar forever but all of a sudden I couldn't take ANY treble. I could handle a little but not much at all, its like I heard the treble registers 4 million times more sensitive than normal, loud was out of the question but treble was the real enemy, I am getting better now but still sucks.
Jeff Beck is first and foremost a very talented musician, and he has a very good ear. It's all in the fingers. He doesn't need flash/special equipment. Alex Field guitar and Michael King piano Over The Rainbow
Yes, a good pecentage of tone comes from the player's fingers, not his gear, but that is only after it has passed through the mind, body, and spirit first.
The guy on the left is Alan Rogan. Pete Townsend's guitar tech. Also has worked for the Stones, AC/DC, Joe Walsh ++++ Yeah, he has plenty of pocket change and a few cool guitars.
Funny how the best exponents of guitar are (still) the English. Beck Page Clapton Green Snowy White Koss off Taylor. OK Hendrix was a one off. A freak but more showman than player towards the end. There are great players everywhere but general consensus is that these guys set the scene. Must be in the water in UK!
chavruta2000 Maybe its possible his ears can hear the treble more the lower bass tones? . Townsend had a similar problem. Jeff is such a pioneer with the electric guitar. While blazing the trail he took in the 60's & 70's, the technology wasn't available. Now with ear monitors etc... It seems like technology evolved to where a guitar driven band can feel safe hearing himself through ear monitors. Pink Floyd would use full head sets on stage. Floyds live concerts were like being in the studio. I'm not comparing Jeff to David or Roger. You can't. Neither can you compare Jeff with Jimmy, Jimi, Clapton or Vaughn. They are our hero's. My guitarist is Keith. but the different styles makes it impossible to say who is better. They're all great. It is just Jeff's technique is a combination of blues, rockabilly, funk, jazz, and of course rock & roll. Picture a salad bar with each item being a genre of guitar playing. It is almost like Jeff took what he wanted & left the rest behind to create his own style. Long live the king...
+chavruta2000 I have tinnitus, and I can understand that. I will start doing the same thing to my amps. It probabably is related to the mass of sound and perceived loudness. Bass frequencies have more energy and move more air.
I have tinnitus as well. Often tinnitus is related to hearing loss from exposure to loud sounds. The hearing loss usually manifests itself in high frequency hearing loss (like in my case). So by turning the bass down and the treble up, he’s likely compensating for the high frequencies he’s lost.
IT's really sad that he had Tinitis. I've never understood why rock musicians feel they have to play at deafening volume. Especially someone who plays with so much artistry and subtlety. I pray for his ears.
When he played with G n R.. During sound check the drummer slammed on the cymbals and apparantly Jeff was right in the "line of fire" of the sound and it blew his hearing...Something like that...Slash explains it in his autobiography.

I prefer Blow by blow and Wired anyday over his boring new technique since 1990
Great insight into Jeff's playing. Everyone's different. None more so than he.
Great to see the legendary Alan Rogan. Miss you Alan. R.I.P.
I could her him talk about jeff's set up for hours Jeff is a true guitar god !

He's talking about the Marshall DSL50 heads JB was using at the time.
On the left my pal the late legendary Alan Rogan RIP.

willeng84 i Feel you!! Im very very sensitive to treble myself

Alex Field guitar and Michael King piano Over The Rainbow
I miss Rogan Badly. He was a great guy.
Actually live he uses a Fender Pro Jr, not a Champ. I believe he uses a Champ in the studio though, an old tweed one.
Anyone know what reverbs JB used, his tones on Jeff and Coming Home were crazy good, any info would be awesome guys cheers !!
He used a LEXICON ALEX
Outstanding! Thanx 4 this.
@searunrd1 It was actually the drummer for Guns N' Roses that caused his tinnitus. He was rehearsing with them and their drummer caused it.
I love how facts get twisted !
You'd have to steal Jeff's fingers!!! THAT"S where the tone is!
Yes, a good pecentage of tone comes from the player's fingers, not his gear, but that is only after it has passed through the mind, body, and spirit first.
Jason Dotson
Enough of all this cartesian dualism o.O
But when Jeff started using the klon,it made a huge difference, listen to beck 80s,then listen to past few years huge fat tone
The guy on the left is Alan Rogan. Pete Townsend's guitar tech. Also has worked for the Stones, AC/DC, Joe Walsh ++++ Yeah, he has plenty of pocket change and a few cool guitars.
RIP
that would be great if somebody shot a video!!!
Frank zappa said jeff was his most favourite guitarist on the planet. Its not what he plays frank said its how he plays it.
Saw him today and he played 2 marshalls
y es but does his strat have hum canceling pickups?
One of jeff's drummers hammered a cymbal and jeff was right there, bummer. guess townsend has it too after those years with keith moon no surprise.
I wanna see the Ronny Scott show!
Funny how the best exponents of guitar are (still) the English. Beck Page Clapton Green Snowy White Koss off Taylor. OK Hendrix was a one off. A freak but more showman than player towards the end.

Must be in the water in UK!
looked exactly like a JTM45 when I saw him last night
I wish they actuallly show the equipment!
I generally gravitate towards a passive-aggressive strat
What, no more Seymour Duncan amps?
how does rolling off the bass help with tinnitus?
chavruta2000 Maybe its possible his ears can hear the treble more the lower bass tones? . Townsend had a similar problem. Jeff is such a pioneer with the electric guitar.

In their later years, as usual, Teller didn't say much.
@Aldo8474 i do. He is not pleased.
IT's really sad that he had Tinitis. I've never understood why rock musicians feel they have to play at deafening volume. Especially someone who plays with so much artistry and subtlety. I pray for his ears.
He says its from working in his garage on his hot rods
I read it was partly from a sound check he did for a guest spot with Guns 'n' Roses. The amps we too loud.
When he played with G n R..
During sound check the drummer slammed on the cymbals and apparantly Jeff was right in the "line of fire" of the sound and it blew his hearing...Something like that...Slash explains it in his autobiography.
@josipml5
Mep!
"he doesn't like it barking" nice
so jeff was a klon man
Who knew Jeff was such good friends with Lou Grant and Father Mulcahy!?
+Charles Seper That's Alan Rogan, he looks after Townshend's gear...
funny!
Charlie hahahaha
Whaddumean Ted?
Nobody can sound like Jeff beck or another guitar player because NOBODY HAVE HIS FINGERS!!
..................SUB Bass ................freq's

except at very low volumes.
@philzyqotsa ha ha exactly
@thebibleisalltrue thought he used a snarling dog....
i think the guy on the left is a numismatist
:-D he grades pocket change at 0:30
Alan Rogan, the great guitar tech to many, RIP
KIND OF KIND OF KIND OF
i thought he used a Rat
Amplifier anoraks.
It's hard for me to take a specialist seriously when he mispronounces 'Moog'.
Before 1990 most specialists in most professions weren't autistic and didn't give a shit about pedantic bs like that. Just sayin ..
Yeah, why give any respect at all to anybody, huh, squirt?
I prefer the Jerry Garcias myself.
