Back at the beginning of 1987, I passed out from basic training at HMS Raleigh accompanied by the band of the Royal Marines. Simply the best. Every time I hear Heart of Oak I remember with so much fondness those marching lessons on the parade ground, and the best Military band in the world. Still love listening to them all these years later.
35 pieces including Corps of Drums seems to be the standard for Royal Marines Bands now. Sometimes I see them add another rank for 40 depending on occasion. Very good display none the less.
I live in Yorkshire. We used to have the royal tournament in London but it was axe many years ago. And I never knew we had this in London. Where is it held and what time of the year.. it looks brilliant hopefully I will get there next year 2024.
This was the first London tattoo it was held in the Excel Centre in London Docklands on the 1st of July. The event was produced by Londonbandweek.com where I believe details will be provided once next years date is confirmed. Thanks for the comment
I beliece that is the Univ of Tennessee Band on the floor with the Royal Marines at the start of this video. Its members should have been in the audience for part of the RM band performance. It would have been a great learning experience. Hopefully, they did so during rehearsals.
You are correct, you can see both the opening featuring the University of Tennessee band and the Royal Marines as well as the mast band finale, we are both those bands combined with a further four British community bands, in the London Tattoo playlist on this channel
I am afraid that may no longer be true; it used to be unusual however with the ever diminishing size of British military bands, in the words of the great Tom Jones, these days 'it's not unusual' Thanks for the comment.
Amazing I will try to make it next year to get down to London. The only negative for me is the lighting is not that good too much flashing very dark at times I'm sure it's completely different when you're on the audience 💯
I agree that it looks better in the flesh than on camera (the lighting). The massed bands of the Marines will be beating retreat at Horse Guards Parade in 2024 as well around early July, they do it every two years.

Just wondering why I liked marching music
C when I never did military service, just remembered I was in the BoysBrigadein the 1879s.
really amazing band transcriptions and oh that incredibly lucky euphonium soloist. totally awesome music and performance.
BRILLIANT
Superb performance by the Band of his Majesty's Royal Marines, CTCRM

I have noticed that on a number of occasions lately. A pity since I like to see large Royal Marine Bands.
They should have a lovely backdrop like they used to have at the royal tournament before it was axed all those years ago.

Unusual to have four trombones in a five-across band for a parade gig. But suits Clash of the Dreadnoughts even better

Great Band, but no atmosphere from the audience, sounds like there's 5 people clapping.
Before the them University of Tennessee was better. BUT Tennessee's band was 3 times their size.
You can keep your American high school band nonsense, this is what a tattoo is about 👏
