Totally agree with you Veronika, i started my learning language journal in Duolingo and it was perfect at the beginning, it was fun and i was learning new words and simple grammar structures but i got the point where I started feeling stuck, duolingo put wings on my back and I could follow the rest of the path alone, exploring another resources.
When I was a beginner in English, I used to use Duolingo since I felt it was an easy way of learn basic vocabulary having fun. However, at some point I realized that I had to stop using it because I needed something a little more challenging as I was progressing in my English level. I really liked it when you said that Duolingo is only one piece 🧩 of the puzzle of our language learning journey, I think the same. This was such a great video, Veronika ❤
Absolutely but have other resources to support as well as take notes. I'm now a B2 in Brazilian Portuguese and currently an A2 in Spanish mostly thanks to Duolingo.
One reason I stopped using Duolingo was that they eliminated the comments on each exercise. It was an absolute shame because it was so useful so that for example when I felt things weren't very clear I would immediately check the comments and find a lot of kind people giving the perfect explanations to my doubts and even extra material for more insight on the lesson, I also think it should be brought back because it created a sense of community which was a source of extra motivation. Switching topics, I loved your analogy of Lego with language learning I think I'm taking it with me because it's so illustrative ❤
It's actually an interesting topic! I agree with Veronica, you shouldn't have only one source for learning like Duolingo, you always need to try something new to have a good result thank you for the amazing video❤
Absolutely agree with you. At the beginning, I thought it could elevate my English to another level but I already knew all of this what it was trying to teach me. Then I wanted to start learning French and there Duolingo came in and after few months I feel that I could have a small conversation in this language which would be completely impossible if I studied with the books or less engaging apps. Sometimes I also listen to podcasts in this language and I'm glad when I can understand part of the sentences/words. Thanks a lot for your valuable content 🙂
@@Nyctophileshe I'd like to help you but I can't. I know what to recommend if it comes to French podcasts but I've listened to just a few in English so far, mainly about photography which I'm passionate about.
I agree with your idea in this video. In my experience, Duolingo helped me build vocabulary and tense in my mind, especially the tense that was hardest for me at the beginning since there is no tense for verbs in our mother tongue. Even now, I still keep Duolingo on my phone and sometimes use it like playing a small game.
Just to inform you: Duolingo goes up to level B2. You really need to train your ears a lot more and practice speaking outside of the App, in order to be a fluent B2. For C1, the effort is even greater. But I've already finished Duolingo 3 times (4 years). This latest version has so many improvements that only now did I really have difficulty finishing it.
Thank you so much for your video. I used to learn a language on Duolingo, but it didn't work for me. However, I will try to learn French and Korean languages because I need them for traveling purposes. I am lazy and I don't have a lot of time to learn them. In my free time, I will learn them and I know basic Korean words, but I am zero in the French language. I think I can learn basic words from Duolingo.
@@veronika_languagediaries Ma'am please tell me i want to crack an interview of an MNC company on how to crack an interview please ma'am help........⭐🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I definitely like Duolingo for the fun aspect of it, but I'm definitely trying to use more resources. I want to learn Spanish and German, and I am mostly focused on Spanish right now. Someone told me Babbel was better, and while I used it and think that is true, I didn't like it as much and I've been using Busuu instead of either one of those for my main Spanish learning resource. Busuu was way more effective than Duolingo - not silly sentences like "Yo bebo leche" but more important ones like asking about where you work, family relationships, etc. and I like that a lot better for me. I also want to book a lesson on italki but I'm afraid that the teacher(s) might not understand I'm not fully ready to practice a full-session conversation in Spanish yet based on my level (Busuu has me on Chapter 9, Beginner A1, learning about colors - which I kind of already know about thanks to some basic Spanish knowledge from middle school - but also other things that aren't silly sentences, too). I do want speaking practice and the lessons would be good for that, but I just fear I am not "good enough" to speak yet (I know in some of your advice videos you say "just start speaking from Day 1", and I have - I would just be nervous I think since I've never had a speaking partner before.)
Nice video thank you but i see your videos only because i like your all videos your speaking skill is very nice i impressed on your videos your are the Excellent English Teacher ❤👍 Do you see Duolingo 😊 your are so nice Thank you
Duolingo? I don't use this thing, I use Quillbot because Quillbot is better than Duolingo. Thank you so much for this video, You're very clever and Your English is really good. I enjoyed your video, Keep up the good work, I wish you all the best.
Thank you for your comment! 💛 QuillBot is very different from Duolingo, it's not really an app that teaches you languages, it corrects your grammar and spelling mistakes
I think Duolingo helps you create a habit. But the question is: is this habit good? You get hooked on Duolingo, you start to associate language learning with Duolingo and you feel good about that. But you don't know that there are much better and even much more fun ways to learn a language. Now you only care about your Duolingo streak and you're highly likely to use nothing except Duolingo.
It annoys me the amount of hate that duolingo gets. I agree with you it’s not perfect but so much of it is nuance. My conclusion after two years of use is similar to yours. It’s free. You get out what you put in. Definitely have to concentrate on it to learn rather than just click through the exercise. I consistently get a weekly report telling me I’m in the top 98% of learners….which tells me a lot of people are not learning much, because I only use it for about thirty minutes a day. I’ve learned more on duo in two years than I did in five years at school in the nineties where I tried very hard but learned almost nothing. I need the every single day contact time and the instant feedback. If I have to wait for a teacher to correct my homework there’s no point, I have no recollection of even doing it by that point. I need the correction while I’m still thinking about it. Duolingo doesn’t explain the error but it does point it out.
yeah absolutely correct ... I think all the people are using duolingo for getting there STREAK 😂(including me coz beating my friends by making more streak 😂) and also it is language learning app packed with fun so more are attracted towards it ...... and I absolutely agree with you what you have said it is a not a great app for learning a language but for beginners then true .... By the way do you use duolingo for fun ??? (Don't use to reply thank you instead use i liked it or any other better than that ... ( i am just joking 😀) i will see you in the next video or in a next feedback comment .......
Thank you 💕sometimes i want to say for example a sentence but there’s a word that I don’t know , and i want to translate that word from my native language to English but the translation app doesn’t give me the correct English word , so how can i find that word or phrases that i need in English??😢

This Duolingo gamification is boring. Duolingo tries to be fun, but fails. It only seems fun. And due to the fact that there are lots of fun, exciting books, audio books, movies and games everywhere, it's obvious what you should choose. But that's only my opinion.
