    funny you posted this video. I had a pair of Audio Technica LP120x show up in the post today (minor upgrade to original lp120). Yes they are budget, they're not going to be as powerful in torque (but almost), they're not going to last as long and they're made of slightly cheaper material compared to technics, RP7000, etc. But they were £245 each and these are my first turntables.
    I'm not a scratch DJ, so low torque is just fine, it'll allow me to have a light touch. I only play in my house, so I don't have to worry about them being safe to transport.
    So many people say "spend a bit more, get second-hand technics", but you've gotta start somewhere. Many of the best DJs in the world started on shitty belt drives and faulty equipment. The 120x has everything I could possibly need to have some fun with, and I'm really looking forward to giving my small vinyl collection a spin

      Couldn't agree more. I co-owned a pair of 1200's a few years ago and my mate moved to Australia and bought my share of them. I recently got the itch to mix again, and bought some LP120's. For the price, they are more than adequate and capable. I've had them for just over two years and they are still going strong.

    For me the most DJ friendly, well thought out, and ahead of it's time deck produced since Technics was the Vestax PDX-D3.. Powerful motor, variable pitch fader settings, digital pitch display, variable pitch bend and jog toggle control, reverse, and the first to use the removeable target light. The massive downside though was the chipwood cabinet.

    I like how you didn't go in to great detail about the history of the technics.. I'm sure there was other direct drive decks at the time but they weren't technics.. i saw a hip hop documentary and a budding young american dj who was forever experimenting with electronics one day went in to a shop like rumbelows and was looking for a turntable that can get up to speed very quickly and found the technics did that.. i guess technics realised what they had and improved on that turntable which meant it was going to be used pretty much everywhere.. radio stations and clubs ... that young american dj was grandwizzard theodore.. the turntable was possibly an original 1200 designed for home use.. it was the bees knees... the rolls royce of dj turntables ..everyone who dj'd had to have the technics...it was the rolex watch equivalent...

    If you beat mix and are used to an analgue pitch control, well you'll absolutely HATE this deck. It has a digital pitch controller :( and it's the absolute worst. Complete fail. If you're just getting a single deck for casual listening you won't care I guess.
    Also, let's talk about the elephant in the room....why did they choose to make this look identical to a 1210? Seriously it's a complete rip off lol. But it's not a 1210 is it? And it never will be. It's sort of like buying a kit car of the classic car you always wanted. It may well be more reliable, but you'll always look it and think....it's not a 1210 though is it? 😬

    The torque is low on the 1200's compared to any of the newer turntables available now . If you have not worked on a high torque turntable i would suggest doing so., it does do a great job even on mixing. i love mixing on those, great for those fast blends.

    • @FSwiftDJ
      @FSwiftDJ 5 лет назад +3

      It depends if your mixing records or not , if your performance DJ yes you might need high torque motors , but too much high torque pressure on any turntable motor will not be great mixing records , Technics has balance of everything really that's why it's industry standard

    • @hot4futureyears2come
      @hot4futureyears2come 5 лет назад +1

      FSwift DJ mixing has to do with more with the pitch than the torque. Which is why the pitch drive is the most important thing. High torque makes you faster getting the music to the right bpm . But if you worked on the 1200 all your life and then Blend music with a plx1000 you can do it effectively

    • @FSwiftDJ
      @FSwiftDJ 5 лет назад +2

      @@hot4futureyears2come you can mix records with digital pitch even on plx1000 etc but as all club vinyl djs will say, original Analog pitch is just better with the finer pitch adjustments , they all have same pitch in Technics just that new models use a binary system that counts in block whole steps then in half etc with Analog pitch , that's why digital pitch turntable won't stay in without pitch movement every few seconds or so compared to Analog pitch , you can move the plater etc with Analog pitch to keep it in time also , with digital pitch like plx1000 it just goes all over the place
      with original Technics your not constantly chasing the tempo
      Your on point , with digital modern turntable your chasing the tempo too much that hinders your fader or mixer creative flow if I can put that more clear lol

      I have a pair of the original rp8000's. I mix vinyl and love the lcd display of the pitch for fine beat matching. With technics and rp7000 you kind of guess how much you moved the slider. When beatmatching by ear you can quickly move the fader in tiny increments and know you didnt nudge it too much. This helps when your trying to blend records fast. I can keep 2 records matched for over a minute with the rp8000 before manipulating the platters...not all the time though...same goes for MK5.

    I think most of us back in the day started out with some dodgy decks, i had an SL-23, which was not too bad for a belty, paired with some dodgy pioneer which didnt even have a pitch control, then a set of KAM BDXs i picked up cheap, which were not much better. Then life took a different route, djing went out the window and i never did get to own a pair of the technics, had plenty of plays on them tho.
    I recently got back into it all, glad i kept my vinyl, one thing i never parted with. I was looking at getting the reloop 7000s, but then i came across the audio technica lp1240, pretty much the same, just another super oem. But for £200 each, brand new boxed, it was a no-brainer really, so i went with a pair of them. Basically got a pair of them for less than the price of a single reloop7000. Happy with what i got, no regrets.

    Digital pitch Vs analog pitch ,
    You should mix some records on both turntables as test at same time Pitch them up and get them in time, leave them playing, I tell you now the reloop won't stay in time like the technics that's where today's decks fail with real vinyl
    technics sl1200 MK2 will always be the better deck turntable to mix real records but for scratch performance both but reloop better in that area with features, DVS both will be the same depending on DJ software , no doubt technics will have quality parts that stand the test of time, this reloop is great turntable, but will it stand the same test of time ?

      @1CBRDUDE i agree , but I wouldn't say he has no clue on this subject mate , the guys been mixing on Technics decades with experience , what I would say is that yes these reloops digital pitch might stay in time for bit but your have to keep adjusting the pitch chasing it, digital pitch works in blocks there is no fine tune between each block like Analog pitch , that's why Technics pitch stays in time longer ( fine adjustments ) also Technics qualtz decks direct drive motor is just the best for mixing records there is no high torque or super etc it's just nice balance

    You call them 7 inch records? In North America we call them 45's. And we call singles 12 inches. We also incorrectly pronounce "Technics" as "Techniques".
    I always thought pinching the spindle was a ridiculous way to reduce the speed. I've only seen a couple DJ's do that. Rubbing the side of the platter is far more effective. And nudging the side of the platter to speed it up is also weird. You'd think that would be far more difficult to do smoothly, versus using your finger near the center of the record. I know you know this, just my opinion.
    I'm surprised the Reloop 7000 isn't self grounded. It's not that old. I have a pair of Numark TTX turntables that were released in 2007, and they are self grounded. They also have a interchangeable tonearm. You can use S-shape, or straight for scratching. With a straight tonearm it's very difficult to skip. The Technics MK7 has all the modern features the Reloop has.

That is the only way to get your tracks exactly in time, with the digital pitch on the Reloop it moves in steps eg. 0.01, 0.02 etc. rather than an infinitely small amount like the Technics. Disagree a little bit about service ability of tech 1200's. There are a ton of third party spares and Technics is still producing spare parts for the decks. As well as this you can often fix the tables yourself because there is so much knowledge and documentation over the years on the internet. Also because these decks are STILL the industry standard, DJ repair shops know how to fix them. I have myself replaced pitch faders, and re-calibrated the pitch on a 1200 and it was dead easy. Parts are accessible and not too cheap considering how bloody long they last if looked after.

      @@lustforlow-end6022 Reloops work great. Digital pitch is one of the things I like the most because I prefer +-16 rather than +-8 (+-50 can also be implemented in an interesting way). The adjustable time to stop from 0 to 6 seconds is something I use a lot. The only drawback is their smell. I've had them for a few months now and when I leave them closed in the room and go in there, the smell is very noticeable. It's the smell of the lower part of the casing made of plastic, which is not associated with something premium. Considering their price, I can ignore it because it is not a problem to ventilate the room. It's not like you can smell them while playing, the smell must condense when the room is closed for a long time. I use them with Ortofon Concord Mk II mix, connected to Behringer DJX900. The whole setup cost me as much as one limited edition SL1200.

The only drawback is their smell. When I leave them closed in the room and come back, the smell of cheap plastic can be clearly felt (the lower part of the housing is made of it). It's not like you can smell it when you play them, the smell has to build up. I can forgive them because I air the room before playing anyway. I suppose the Technics has a brake and torque adjust potentiometer below the platter. They are under small holes, and reachable specific positions, maybe trough the holes in the platter.
    In the MK5 it has, but MK2 i'm not sure.
    78RPM was using about the gramophone era, maybe the '20s thtough the '50s.
    The problem with the Technics decks are virtual, imho. They were abandoned for about a decade, and the rival brands evolved. Thats the deal. Technics are essentials in the club scene, and if you can play with them, you can use the other brands, too, they are basically the same. Technics was the godfather of the DJ turntables, and they made it etalon. All the knobs, buttons, sliders, lights in the newest models are the same positions as where Technics placed in the late '70s.

      Looking to isolate the motor and spindle from the plinth. Looks like its attached, given the thump with any tap on the plinth at all. Did they attach the motor to the plinth?

      @@allhartfidelity the reloops have awful feedback, they also have a raised platter that should be recessed , I ran one alongside a tech 1200 and with the same needles and with tonearm set at various tracking weights and the tonearms at various heights and the sound of the needle on the reloop was awful , like it was scratching the record, I reckon the needles would last half the time on tge reloop because of record wear caused by the ugly raised platter

      @@michaelc1818 isolation is worse than any deck I've ever owned. Any minute breeze passing by can be heard through the pickup. It's a shame to have a decent motor and features within a cardboard box. Not sure if it's the arm that's not isolated, platter/motor, or both.

      @@allhartfidelity They are just OEM rubbish like all the hanpin rubbish, even the Pioneers are hanpin and are bad for feedback, regardless of feedback they all have digital pitch which is useless for long mixes and the wow and flutter is bad

      @@michaelc1818 I am for home audio use. I've had a 1200 of some form or another for many years. Still have a GLD. The rp7000 was a supreme let down. Got a gold one because I like the color combo (hence the gld) and read on some reloop folks having hum. However, I dont have hum...I have poor isolation. Ideally, I throw the arm in the trash, but doubt I can use the same armboard used to mod the 1200 on the reloop. I would start there and see if that helps.
      Any idea if that plate for the 1200 used to put SME arms on them would work for the reloop?
