Talking Koch
Richard is at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and starts with a joke he first did in this venue 25 years ago. His guest is standup and daughter of the former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Olga Koch.
They talk about St Petersburgh and (inevitably) Rasputin and his cock, having sex with a sea creature, making bad man seem slightly better via stand up, how Richard hopes his penis might survive him (again), a confectionary tribute to an ex, how Chelsa Clinton is probably getting more than she deservers, cutting up strap-ons with a paper slicer. The conversation keeps coming back to genitalia for some reason. I can’t imagine what prompted it.
I once made a jokey comment questioning the structural integrity of the timber in Richards country property. This is now something I deeply regret, as I can see quite clearly at the start of this video, that the Oak joist-pitch and the depth of their tenons into the beams are absolutely on-point, and if anything a little structurally excessive. Their apparent blonde appearance is also indicative of a recent Xylophene treatment so I think it is fair to say that the upper framework of the property at least will be insect free for at least the next 80 years (I cannot say the same for Richard, that is not for me to judge). I do hope that this good news will bring some cheer to us all during these dark days. Stay safe everyone.
Hahaha what!!!
This certainly puts my mind at rest
You should fill in instead of Nish Kumar next guest cancellation.
@@liamhughes1532 Thank you, Let it be publicly known, I would LOVE to! Thats if I am not already filling in for Boris Johnson by then. 🇬🇧
This man knows his wood!
Loving RHLSTP during self-isolation / teaching online. If you run out of guests Richard, can you go 'live' and we can all ask YOU emergency questions ????
I'm an (academic) computer scientist and wasn't aware that Olga had this background... I'll be sure to check out some of her CS-themed gigs :)
I like the auto subtitles for RHLSTP, and how it's different each time.
Relish supper might be the most inspiring one so far.
So good to see you, you cheer me up so much! Thank you! You are awesome 😍
I can hardly remember Richard forcing conversation so much, she just remains silent most of the times. Feels like Richard is doing all the talking work for her.
I know what you mean.
I think it's partly down to an unresponsive audience.
At 37:30 he is teeing her up. Tell the story Olga! Tell us all about it! She just sits there.
@@jimmycampbell78 Yep, I noticed that.
@@mrswinkyuk A RHLSTP audience is very understanding and forgiving; they/we know the score.
Good stuff! I shall check out Olga Koch online.
I like how she always refers to Richard Herring by full name. Very relatable.
Cheers Rich!..Long live RHLSTP ☠☠☠
Surely the answer to Olga’s question at 24:50 is “pioneered the now-common use of sex robots”…?
I thought she was great on Mock the Week but somewhere between Olga, Richard and half an audience this fell a bit flat.
Ah well.
They can't all be great. Like you say - ah well.
Awkward. Was this is a 1000-seat venue with 400 people in it?! Rich seems uncomfortable and isn't letting her talk.
Man, if you think that's awkward then you do not want to see the size audiences I played to in the 90s and 2000s and how small the audiences were. 400 is an amazing result.
@@richardherring9478 you are not the real Richard Herring, are you laddie?
Realised I have listened to her before on Trashfuture podcast. That will be the obscure "best known for" intro for us younglings in the future.
first saw Olga on Mock the Week, she got a new fan that day, and now a sit down with Richard, see, COVID19 isn't all that bad, you get some nice things out of it. Thanks Richard!
Speaking of non-human milk. Take a look at Season 2 Episode 1 of TMWRNJ (20 ish mins in)
I ended up spending a large percentage of the time just wondering if he was going to attempt to address the fact that an interview needs two people without making her upset or uncomfortable. He probably did the right thing by going by the rule of thinking of the guest as they have been invited and they bothered to turn up. And she obviously was not doing it on purpose. But it does boggle the mind to think that someone involved in the business would be so blind to the situation. Definitely going to stick in my head as the most accidentally non-receptive interviewee ever.
I gave up after around 20 minutes
Dunno. She seemed ok to me. Considering she is natively Russian it was hardly a surprise that she didn't know Russian history correctly.
For me it wasn't really that, I just didn't find her very funny or engaging. Every answer seemed to have to be dragged out of her; nothing was forthcoming. Just my opinion though. Each to their own. She did get lots of really positive comments too, just not my cup of tea as an interviewee.
I'd still be interested to check out her stand up comedy and also the scripted stuff she's done.
I lasted 35 minutes. What we had here was a failure to communicate. I suspect if I did an interview in Russia I might have difficulties too.
It started off well initially. But the problem was that she did not want to talk in depth about many of the things Richard - and many of us I would guess- found interesting (about her background).
Love it Rich. You got your wind back :)
The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife is a painting from 1814.
@Pat Mahon - an ambiguous title - lol!! The Fisherman's wife's Dream would be less poetic but clearer!!
Olga is wonderful, a great comic, I saw her Fringe show twice last year. The crowd is not brilliant here I have to say
The crowd was still sulking from that Liverpool Street Train remark.
It's not Wigtenstein - it's WITTGENSTEIN! Get it right!
Whenever Richard mentions the stone clearing I think "does the farmer/field owner want the stones cleared?" and "what are they doing with the stones" perhaps they could send them to Trump for his wall - just tell him they are the best the most beautiful, the best at keeping out immigrants - and he'll pay over the odds for them - lol!!!
Nice. While you're stuck at home, as you originally thought there was a ghost in your house, maybe set some cameras :)
So much snooker, it's like I'd forgot about this. Live shows, stones, it's class time for Herring fans, suspiciously so. Richard have you considered that the IT guys have banded together to create the corona story just for your village's Internet feed. A program altering all the Internet for you so as to isolate you(trumsn style but using algorithms) thus increasing your already prolific content output? It's the sort of thing we would do...
It’s a silent "H" when we pronounce RHLSTP
I've always pronounced it as Ra-Ha-Li-Stoppah. EDIT: I feel like I made an error commenting just now as I've barely got into Rich's warm-up yet and this comment will make more sense if I was listening/had watched the entire video first.
40:00 - someone tel Olga she learned in an American school, using an American dictionary.
Russian has less words than English/English...
Russian has 150k ish which is still less than the OED's 171k, English also has 41k 'obsolete' words that we still use, making for 210k in the English lexicon, Americans have never know these 'obsolete' words in the first place.
Yah ponyo etoi tovarish.
