The IC-905 uses a custom PoE setup to power the RF deck and is why it must be connected directly to the control head. With this IC-7760 there is no PoE as both the RF desk and the controller have their own power source.

Nice to see new offerings. Looks like a 7610 with an added 990 sub screen. Personally would buy a 7610 and an amp. Currently love my 7610 / 890 so will pass. I am patiently waiting for a 990 replacement as my next upgrade.
for whatever reason, I think the 990 won't have a follow-up. I don't see Kenwood doing anything useful anymore. Keep the 890. What's your thought on this re Kenwood?
REference around minute 6:40, actually, you are limited to about 100m when directly connecting the controller and the RF deck. Connecting the RF deck and the Controller (through the LAN connector on the RF Deck,) is different.
At almost twice the price of a 7610, is it worth it? That is the real question. I have been considering a 7610 for a while. I guess I should wait and see at this point.
@@chuckdebian2205 CESSB should be banned, all this voodoo crap. The rules are - use the BW (and power) needed to get things done. If you want a crappy TX sound, buy something else Chuck. We also don't know the numbers yet RX wise. Think you have a totally different mindset when it comes to rigs (referring to the measuing of signal strength too)
I am most confused by the suggested retail price. Taking the example of the 7300 for instance it is about £1000 here in the UK but with 20% sales tax it is about £1200. Japanese domestic market versions (not identical) are available for about 30% less. Not sure how much this radio will retail for here in the UK. High duty cycle is attractive, I am sure part of the equation is that with a remote head radio more fan noise is tolerable. Looks to be priced keenly in comparison to similar rigs.
While I love the remote RF deck design, I don't see enough difference between this and IC-7610 to warrant double the cost. I'd instead use my computer to control the 7610 remotely. I would love to see an IC-7100 replacement with this design or an upgraded IC-705. I love Icom's innovation, though!
they won't kill off the 705 anytime soon. The 7610 remove controlled is by the way different from a head. Latency comes into play here and we'renot eventalking about the way you control it. The 7100 can be used with the separated head and additional hardware so that can be done already for quite a few years.I know people having the head and some hw in the suitcase while the rig itself stays in the Netherlands. Works pretty well for voice/D*
It looks like Icom have taken some pointers from the Kenwood TS-990, particularly with the second display. It's still very much a menu-driven radio which I'm not a huge fan of from an operating perspective. Although saying that, the only Icom radio I own is the IC-9700. I certainly don't like the new Yaesu radio's. I'd be very interested in seeing what Kenwood push out as a replacement - if they do indeed do so. Looking at the specs of this radio, it could be something to at least spend some time playing with when it is released.
Yeah, let's hope Kenworth are the ones that finally get it right and want to take my money off me, with the kind of technology we've got now with AI and all the rest of the stuff they could've made a brilliant Radio they could've done a Radio that could do so much and I don't know they just messed it right up I think, has it still got the pathetic noise reduction that the other Icom radios have got or is it got a new improved noise reduction? That's the first question? I bet it's still the same it's the same software everything inside it is the same. It's just been transported to another Radio. It's exactly the same software. I don't really think I'm gonna be buying anything more from this company. I love my 7610 but I won't be buying anything else from them. I'm waiting for something like Kenwood. Hopefully they are gonna bring out a multi band multi mode radio with all the bells and whistles on it and I don't care if it cost a lot of money as long as it does what I want.
@@MrAnon-g7m I was in the market for a radio late last year as the front-end of my FT-2000D had (again) died. I really tried hard to love the FTDX-101 but it just wasn't there. I don't like menu systems being the primary way to access functions on a radio and it just felt too plasticky for me, having grown up coveting the Yaesu radio's of the 70's and 80's. I knew I'd missed the boat on a new TS-990 but one came up and I bought it. There isn't a lot I don't like about it. You rarely need to go into the main menu as there are physical controls for most things you want to modify during operation and holding a button brings up a context-relevant dialogue with graphics that make sense. Having designed user interfaces myself in the past, I'm really not a fan of software engineers developing UI's for software engineers - the same applies to so many modern domestic UI based systems; get actual real-world users to test it, give feedback rinse and repeat until you have something usable. I digress, this is a hobby-horse for me. I love the second display that Icom have also adopted in this model. The noise reduction in the TS-990 is REALLY good. I hope they give us a successor to the 990.
Ok perhaps it's insignificant detail but the monitor connector is a joke... Its not 10€ Baofeng we're talking about here. Will soon VGA make a comeback? For this price there should be like 2 or 3 different outputs... WTF

Other than ego or bragging rights it does not make any sense spending that much money. Reminds me of folks purchasing a new high end digital camera every year, notice their pictures never improve. This IC-7760 is a new play-pretty, users will not be able to contact more folks than they can now with much less expensive devices. Keep in mind: "Bragging rights lasts until the next play-pretty is released."
My problem with a lot of modern transceivers that are dependent on PCs is that they use Windows not Linux. Considering that a lot of Amateurs use Linux and that Linux is often the preferred choice for techies (which a lot of Amateurs are) the major manufacturers should cater for Linux users.

You can buy a Yaesu FTDX-101MP for substantially less money and likely better specs. Or the Icom 7610 will compete with it with regard to the specs that serious Contesters use: DR-3@2khz, RMDR and BDR. Currently available rigs like the Elecraft K4D offer more for the $ with easier remote operation and a better pan adapter. Icom historically leverages its pre existing designs for new things.
The 7300 and 9700 won't be around forever. With over 100,00 7300's already sold and no doubt tens of thousands of 9700's already sold, I don't think Icom would be too worried about losing any sales of either model to a new radio that combined both. The 7300 and 9700 will be eventually replaced. hence the need for a new radio to replace them. The 7760 is not the answer. It's just another HF+50 radio with an extra 100W that is ridiculously overpriced. I can't see 100,000 7760's ever being sold.
$6,000 ?!!! ok so we all can agree that Icom does put out a high quality product. reliable and good power output as well as good receive. The only good thing that's gonna come out of this Radio is hopefully some stupid people out there with decide to sell their lovely 7851 cheap and going by that junk. Then I will buy their 7851 laughing my head off while they have basically traded in a really good radio with lots of loves and dials and everything that a radio should look like at that price for that monstrosity 😂😂😂😂
@@MrAnon-g7m it definitely is not a replacement, people that have the 785x generally will recognize this as a step back and what others may have said too: it's more between the 76xx and the 78xx series. Say a 7700 replacement.
It's just not your cup of tea. (And no, I won't trade in the 7851)
Nice to see new offerings.
Staying with my 7610 and 7700
Its missing some rear pannel i/o making it a poor replacement for the IC-7851 os i believe your right. This fits inbetween the 7610 and the 7851
The use of 7760 naming suggests it may be a mid level rig replacing the 7700 as an experiment before bringing out the 7860
It indeed fits in between
At almost twice the price of a 7610, is it worth it? That is the real question. I have been considering a 7610 for a while. I guess I should wait and see at this point.

Now that they have built another super expensive radio try building one that is affordable there is a market for that.
My next POTA rig.
Have they fixed the problem the 7610 had with the battery backup for the clock ? MW0XTK

WTF

No, because its a HF radio. for 2m allmode there is the IC-9700.
My problem with a lot of modern transceivers that are dependent on PCs is that they use Windows not Linux. Considering that a lot of Amateurs use Linux and that Linux is often the preferred choice for techies (which a lot of Amateurs are) the major manufacturers should cater for Linux users.
If you really want a low latency just get two media converters and a big ass spool of fiber optic since it’s so cheap these days.

I use a 705 with many triplexers and three amplifiers (hard rock 50+ and UHF/VHF amplifiers). I remotely control via sdr-control. If this new QRP all-band yaesu can be similarly controlled remotely, I can easily swap out the 705 with existing hardware to gain dual receive. Wouldn't that take away sales from the 7300 and 9700 (especially the 9700 which isn't an old model)
