For those wanting 'classic' Architects and complaining about them sounding like (which I almost entirely disagree with) BMTH and going in a radio friendly direction, they have an entire back catalogue of albums which epitomise metalcore and that 'Architects' sound we've all come to know and love. If they released another 'All Our Gods...' or 'Holy Hell', I'm sure people would be complaining about it saying it's been done before. They've mastered that sound, and now they're venturing out and experimenting with something new and, in my opinion, they're absolutely killing it. Can't wait for the new album, loved all the singles so far in spite of how different they are to one another and their old stuff, let's hope for even more bangers when it releases!
There's experimenting, which can be great and liberating for a band, but there are aspects of their original sound that should permeate through their music. But that's just my opinion.
People are allowed to not like a "new direction" you don't have to like something just because you liked previous work. Personally, I think these songs will come to life when played live. They aren't my favourites but I'm still enjoying them
I see this as dumbing down their sound to be a cookie cutter Sirius Octane hard rock band. They get no points for 'experimentation' from me when when the songwriting is so damn lazy and generic.
This has heavy Linkin Park vibes. It’s not bad, but definitely more radio-friendly. And my God is it ever well executed. Dan really brought his drumming to another level on this album. His drum work is insane and really shines here, I feel.
I just found out about Architects a few days ago while watching their Rock Am Ring performance and have been loving the hell out of them. I need new stuff to listen to! I'm actually enjoying what they're doing on this album

Hi guys, after reading “Architects is way too soft now” and “I want the old Architects back” I just wanted to say something as a musician by myself: please don’t judge any band for their music or for their decision to change the musical path. As an artist you always have to be afraid of getting outdated and there are so many social pressures. So an unrestrained force appears and tries to influence you in what you’re doing with your music. But actually you want to make music the people could dislike, especially fans of your older, different sounding songs. So it restricts you very much in your own freedom of choice. Is that your goal by judging bands for developing in another direction? I’m begging you to not be a part of these pressures… Thank you for taking note of it. Love from Germany!
The problem is, if they change their sound because it was getting outdated, they shouldn't change their sound to something that's already been done for more than 5 years. This style of metalcore is already on it's last legs. All of their latest singles sound like something out of That's The Spirit.

Exactly this. Architects was known for their massive (sometimes complex) riffs and progressive nature. All those elements are out of the window on this album and I hate it.

Animals and Black Lungs absolutely bang. Dead Butterflies and this are definitely more accessible, arena rock style songs. This album is gonna be incredibly divisive, I can tell.
I'll be interested in listening to the album front to back to see if it makes more sense. Definitely getting an overall vibe from the 4 songs released thus far, this one being the most straightforward song so far. It's catchy as hell but not sure how I feel about it

This is definitely a different than what I was expecting. I just absolutely love Dead Butterflies and Animals. Been a fan for a long time I like their new direction and I thought that I know where they are headed after those first three songs. But this one caught me off guard. Can´t wait to listen to it as a whole and hopefully sooner than later also live. In very surprised you rated that as high as you did given how much you critiqued it honestly. Giving it at 3.75/5 puts it close to the new Erra stuff which (in my opinion) is in another league compared to this. Each to their own I guess I like animals and dead butterflies but this really didn't do it for me
I thought animals was the worst song they've ever released 1/10. It's radio rock nonsense in my opinion. Black lungs is like a 5.5/6 out of 10. Dead butterflies is a 7.5, and this is probably almost as bad as Animals, if only because it literally just copies Starset (I love starset) and doesn't do a good job of it. Architects should be architects, not BMTH, not Three Days Grace, not Linkin Park, not Starset.

I absolutely 100% appreciate them branching out and experimenting with new sounds. And none of the new singles are bad honestly. Animals has been my favorite by far. But while none of them are bad, all of them just lack something for me, including Animals, I just can’t put my finger on what it is that it’s missing.
I thought the drums were gonna stay on the back beat of in the chorus. The switch to half time was amazing and it still plays off the back beat to keep you guessing.
Honestly I'm happy to see (by reading the comments) that I'm not alone feeling this way. I really don't wanna blame them they are right to do what they like/want and this is not bad at all i like it. But Just after listening this I listened to lost forever Lost together (prob my favorite album from architects) and I know I shouldn't compare but holy crap the riffs were so much heavier and complexe Sam vocals were brutal af every ambiant part made without synth feels so much more atmospheric, the lyrics more powerful. And after this album the new songs feel a bit "empty" :/. Don't get me wrong I know they lost Tom and they had to move on and I still like their new stuff, but in my heart I really miss the old architects. As they said "the past is DEAD!!!!" Architects used to be my favourite band during the Tom Searle era. When they released Holy Hell, I could still hear Tom's songwriting in some of the songs. It didn't hit the same as AOGHAU, or LF//LT, but it was there. Absolutely. But this new album just doesn't do it for me. I'm still going to tattoo their logo. This band meant so much to me when I was younger.

I've been an Architects fan since the start. In my opinion AOGHAU is their best album. Holy Hell was great, but I was worried they'd become repetitive after it. They certainly haven't, but this song felt like it lost a bit of that something special that makes them Architects. I'm not sure how I feel yet, but I am not a typical "oh it's not heavy enough so it sucks" - I even love dead butterflies and that's far from heavy for them. I worry they will have an album with filler tracks, and that is not the architects I've known and followed since the start. I hope I'm wrong.

Animals caught me off guard but ended up really enjoying it. Black Lungs was a pretty solid song and definitely grew on me. I expected the "new sound" from Dead Butterflies and absolutely enjoyed it upon first listen. It slaps. I've been huge on Architect's since I discovered them in 2009 touring Hollow Crown. I embraced their more experimental albums like The Here and Now and never found anything boring. I guess to my point: I wouldn't say it's bad necessarily, but this ain't it... not saying that as a fan that's turned off by their change in sound, but I'm saying it as someone who's embraced and enjoyed the variety of sounds they have in their discography. I agree with absolutely everything you said here except maybe 3.5 niks instead of 3.75. Absolutely excited for the new album though because I'm sure it's full of surprises.
this album is more like Here and Now from 2011. Its way different than what everybody expects, but a fresh wind nonetheless and if you look back, they've always did like 3 albums with similar feeling, sound, then the breaker (here and now) and now it's this albun
The song isn’t bad, it’s just nothing special. Feels like an album filler. That build up was a let down, could have done much more. The ending feels like a lead up to a heavier song as the next track after this is the last track on the album. Not bad, not great.
I agree with a lot of the points you brought up! I enjoyed the melodies and, like you mentioned, the drums and vocals were excellent. I thought the buildup left a lot to be desired and turned what had the potential to be a real banger into an alright track. I'm pretty neutral on the track overall. I'm not super familiar with Architects but this single would not inspire me to check out their work. You should react to the new VOLA single, Straight Lines!

If you like ERRA, go listen to Impulse and especially Augment. Two of the greatest metalcore albums of all time and Augment is my personal favorite.

In very surprised you rated that as high as you did given how much you critiqued it honestly. Giving it at 3.75/5 puts it close to the new Erra stuff which (in my opinion) is in another league compared to this. Each to their own I guess

I thought animals was the worst song they've ever released 1/10. It's radio rock nonsense in my opinion. Black lungs is like a 5.5/6 out of 10. Dead butterflies is a 7.5, and this is probably almost as bad as Animals, if only because it literally just copies Starset (I love starset) and doesn't do a good job of it. Architects should be architects, not BMTH, not Three Days Grace, not Linkin Park, not Starset.

But on a more serious note, if You Are All You Need only manages a 4.25-4.5, this is nowhere NEAR a 3.75. Maybe 3/5 according to Nik's scale, if we're being diplomatic.

I absolutely 100% appreciate them branching out and experimenting with new sounds. And none of the new singles are bad honestly. Animals has been my favorite by far. But while none of them are bad, all of them just lack something for me, including Animals, I just can’t put my finger on what it is that it’s missing.

I thought the drums were gonna stay on the back beat of in the chorus. The switch to half time was amazing and it still plays off the back beat to keep you guessing.

Honestly I'm happy to see (by reading the comments) that I'm not alone feeling this way. I really don't wanna blame them they are right to do what they like/want and this is not bad at all i like it. But Just after listening this I listened to lost forever Lost together (prob my favorite album from architects) and I know I shouldn't compare but holy crap the riffs were so much heavier and complexe Sam vocals were brutal af every ambiant part made without synth feels so much more atmospheric, the lyrics more powerful. And after this album the new songs feel a bit "empty" :/. Don't get me wrong I know they lost Tom and they had to move on and I still like their new stuff, but in my heart I really miss the old architects. As they said "the past is DEAD!!!!" (sorry for my English hope you got the point)

I'm officially siked for this album. I've loved all 4 singles so far and yeah, now I'm hyped.
Architects used to be my favourite band during the Tom Searle era. When they released Holy Hell, I could still hear Tom's songwriting in some of the songs. It didn't hit the same as AOGHAU, or LF//LT, but it was there. Absolutely. But this new album just doesn't do it for me. I'm still going to tattoo their logo. This band meant so much to me when I was younger.
Yeah, they used the last Tom material they still had left to make holy hell, after that it all just went downhill

I've been an Architects fan since the start. In my opinion AOGHAU is their best album. Holy Hell was great, but I was worried they'd become repetitive after it. They certainly haven't, but this song felt like it lost a bit of that something special that makes them Architects. I'm not sure how I feel yet, but I am not a typical "oh it's not heavy enough so it sucks" - I even love dead butterflies and that's far from heavy for them. I worry they will have an album with filler tracks, and that is not the architects I've known and followed since the start. I hope I'm wrong.

Animals caught me off guard but ended up really enjoying it. Black Lungs was a pretty solid song and definitely grew on me. I expected the "new sound" from Dead Butterflies and absolutely enjoyed it upon first listen. It slaps.
I've been huge on Architect's since I discovered them in 2009 touring Hollow Crown. I embraced their more experimental albums like The Here and Now and never found anything boring.
I guess to my point:
I wouldn't say it's bad necessarily, but this ain't it... not saying that as a fan that's turned off by their change in sound, but I'm saying it as someone who's embraced and enjoyed the variety of sounds they have in their discography. I agree with absolutely everything you said here except maybe 3.5 niks instead of 3.75. Absolutely excited for the new album though because I'm sure it's full of surprises.

this album is more like Here and Now from 2011. Its way different than what everybody expects, but a fresh wind nonetheless and if you look back, they've always did like 3 albums with similar feeling, sound, then the breaker (here and now) and now it's this albun
but they had Tom back them, this is the first album they don't have Tom at all with and it shows. I feel like this is a permanent change of direction.

You should check out My First Story's music! They have some heavy gems and vocalist's voice is just AMAZING
The song isn’t bad, it’s just nothing special. Feels like an album filler. That build up was a let down, could have done much more. The ending feels like a lead up to a heavier song as the next track after this is the last track on the album. Not bad, not great.

I agree with a lot of the points you brought up! I enjoyed the melodies and, like you mentioned, the drums and vocals were excellent. I thought the buildup left a lot to be desired and turned what had the potential to be a real banger into an alright track. I'm pretty neutral on the track overall. I'm not super familiar with Architects but this single would not inspire me to check out their work.
