Assassin's Creed Unity: Dead Kings Game Movie: • ASSASSIN'S CREED UNITY...
Assassin's Creed Unity might be one of the best and worst games we've ever encountered. It can be so incredibly frustrating, but mostly because you see so much potential in it. First let me say that they story is great, if you've liked past Assassin's Creed stories you should like this one. The issue is not so much the story, but more so how the game plays. Although my one gripe with the story is that I wish they had incorporated Revolutionary France more into the main story. While the setting is prominent and always present in the game, the story is more about Arno than it is about the historical setting. Which is fine, but when the setting is so rich with opportunities, you can't help but feel like a little bit of a missed opportunity on that front.
Arno feels clunky at times, you'll find yourself constantly fighting against the controls to have him do what you want. He often targets someone you didn't intend to in the middle of fights. In the same token, the new free-running controls can feel so fluid that you'll find Arno pulling off jaw dropping parkour moves that make you feel like an acrobatic super hero. Unity is a long list of highs and lows. On the one hand, Paris is absolutely and utterly stunning. The first time you climb to the top of a building to synchronize a part of the city, you'll be awestruck as the camera does a 360 turn of the city. It's breathtaking. Graphics are the best in the series, and look astounding. But for all that beauty, there is a lot of random texture pop in, or characters disappearing altogether. It's clear that this game was not done. WIth an extra year of polish, this might have been one of the greatest games ever made. For example, the city feels alive and vibrant, as you'll see NPC's EVERYWHERE. It feels like a full functioning city. Some scenes literally have thousands of people in the crowd. You'd think that'd be fun, but with so many people, when you try to run through a crowd, you'll find yourself awkwardly barreling over NPC's, which seems fun at first, but takes away from the fluidity of the game. Thinking about it, in scenes like these, I would have added another run button, one that goes a lot slower, but would allow Arno to fluidly maneuver through a large crowd, then when you had some free space, you could use the regular run. Perhaps this is not a perfect solution, but I'm just throwing out suggestions. Little issues like these add up, and while the game is still great, it really holds back the overall product.
For all it's faults, you can't help but feel excited for the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise. Playing in a city with so many NPC's just creates this sense of aliveness, and urgency that none of us have ever felt in any game, EVER BEFORE. The graphics, while buggy, are amazing when they work properly. Unity is definitely a transitional game. Assassin's Creed IV was also on the "next-gen" consoles, but it was definitely developed from the last generation. Unity has new ideas, that once perfected, will enhance the Assassin's Creed experience and truly utilize the new console's power.
SUBTITLES are off because no matter what we did, they would not stay sync'd with the game. We decided it was best to start over and turn them off because they became a distraction. As always we included relevant gameplay, in game dialogue and cutscenes to create one fluid cinematic experience. We hope you enjoy, and make sure to like, comment and share!

How is this, a 2014 game, has much better cutscenes than odyssey, valhalla and mirage combined? Highly cinematic and facial animations are top notch.

I think the problem is that AC Unity is a very focused game, with a smaller open world and less gameplay activities than the later RPG entries that demanded more attention from developers. Thus, they can spend more time on enhancing the graphics and the facial animations, taking advantage of what the PS4 had to offer. As for Origins, it likely had an edge in that it had two years to develop its cutscenes, and as a reinvention for the series, there was an incentive to impress new and old players alike.

Arno to me looks like a reincarnation of Ezio. His stealth style and attack styles reminded me of the first Assassin's Creed back in 08. A lot of people don't like this game alot but look how ACU has been. It's a great game after 6 years and it's still amazing.

To this day I think this game has some of the best looking cutscenes. The frame-rate was pretty rough during gameplay but by golly the cutscenes still hold up well and are better than Syndicate's. Unity had a few good ideas - Assassin and Templar in love, French Revolution, DEEP character customization, blinking into Paris in different times, a much improved parkour system, unique and cinematic assassinations, black box assassination missions, etc. Was just too ambitious for its time and suffered from predictability. I liked Arno, I thought he saw through the murkier parts of the creed better than other assassins who blindly followed it. Doesn't beat Ezio or AC2, but I still enjoyed it. Thanks for the video!

privettk, don't say it was too ambitious for its time. It was freaking 2014. What they planned was achievable and could have been polished out but Ubisoft rushed the game Therefore devs didn't have sufficient time to do more with the it.

@@vaazon didn't have the technology more like and pushed on to achieve something amazing.
As a game developer myself, I take serious offense to this comment seeing as you don't know anything. Challenge for you: build an entire city out of original models that are made by you with interior design for over 600 buildings each with their own individual design, modelling over 1000 props such as weapons etc, animate the effects by hand, make a story for your game with motion capture cinematics that end with a cool transition into the game cameras point of view, model a massive cathedral with all kinds of alcoves and unorthadox shapes. And that isnt even it, now you have to model thousands of different characters beautifully, visible polygons even subtle not allowed (which was common among games that year none of the models had a perfect roundness to them) animate every single action your character does, create a physics system with realistic fabric movement, create sound effects and record dialogue, make the lighting gorgeous, make the graphics better than any game anyone has ever seen for that time, create new dynamic random events and occurrences. Nope were not done yet, then program every single feature required into the game from realistic human behaviour from guards and npcs which no other game had back then, completely rework a combat, stealth and parkour system from the ground up making it completely different to anything ever seen before, did I mention that you have 300 people working with you (still not enough) and you have to do your historical research, write a story incorporating fictional elements whenever you can, visit locations and make sketches, do concept art and finally finish the game.
Let's see you do that in 4 years without knowing that the next generation of consoles was coming and you originally intended to make it for last gen. Games are works of art and take so much effort to make, way more than a film tv show or book takes to produce. Have some respect for those people actually trying to make the fans happy more than just leeching off of them for money like what ac odyssey does. Now that game cuts corners this game was made with love and not a single shortcut was taken. It was a bit glitch sure but that is to be expected when you try to program things no-one else has ever managed to program. They were really worried that people weren't getting the fullest enjoyable experience when some people complained about the glitches in the game and they really wanted to impress the fans so out of dedication to make the fans happy they gave away the dead kings dlc for free which is about one of the nicest things a game developing company could do. They actually cared about what the fans thought and took what they said into account making slight changes in an attempt to make the game more enjoyable for the fans. So basically lay of mate. You have no idea what you're talking about. Hate on ubisoft quebec and their lazy game making instead of ubisoft Montreal who has an actual passion for the games they make and dedication to making the consumers happy

    • @vaazon

@@derangedcrouton1864 What a pointless rant about something I didn't even say. The hell you are on? I didn't say a bad word about devs. I only said that Ubisoft rushed devs to release a game which by basic comprehension means management pushing devs to complete the game sooner than devs wanted to. I know devs worked hard and I know the game development in general is difficult and takes a lot of effort. My point was that their plans were achievable if they received more time from Ubisoft bosses but unfortunately they didn't. Therefore I disagree with privettk's statement. Witcher 3 released a year later and it proves my point that it's not the year that restrained developer's plans. It was the publisher.

      @glp  9 лет назад +8

That One I put a lot of my thoughts in the description if you want to read more, but yes it was definitely buggy. A lot of texture pop in. Frames dropped occasionally, but it wasn't that big of a deal for us. It only really happened in the big scenes, when there's thousands of NPC's on the screen, and even then it wasn't that severe. There were also times where characters would just disappear from the screen, or where they would appear out of nowhere. We also had the issue with the titles not syncing with the game, which was annoying. For all that though, the game is good. They've said they're going to patch a lot of this stuff. I'd keep an eye out for the patches, and see what they fix. I wouldn't recomment buying right now, but once they fix the stuff, the game can be great. It has some truly amazing aspects to it

It is a shame that the game had so many technical issues to begin with. I have always loved the story of Assassin's Creed and Unity is perfect in that regard. I only wish they could make something that is successful on both fronts. Hopefully Ubisoft realizes their mistake and at the very least take a year off in order to provide a game that is not pressured into a deadline.

It doesn't matter. They decided to make yearly releases which puts them at a specific deadline. It is obvious that Unity wasn't finished in terms of optimization (especially for the PC) which probably would have been a lot better had they been given more time.

    “Neither did my father.”
    “How could I have known?”
This breaks my heart. Elise knows she shouldn’t blame Arno but she lost her father, and the wound is still only two months old. She’s hurt and in mourning and grieving and angry and now it’s coming up fierce against Arno, who was arrested for de la Serre’s death and spent the past two months in prison for it. And even though Elise logically knows Arno couldn’t have known what was in the letter, his blood is of the Brotherhood that was behind her father’s death. Jesus this story is tragic, and it’s even worse because Arno and Elise don’t even get the happy ending they deserve after everything and through it all.

I've never watched a game movie before, but I really like this a lot. I've always loved Assassin's Creed, I never got to play it, but I used to watch my brother play it, and it was good fun. I love the historical stories, amazing. It's good I never paid attention to the stories in brotherhood and the other ones, I'll watch them later I guess. Already have spoilers for this swimming in my head unfortunately, but I saw that shit coming and I'm not that angry, this came out a long time ago, people will be discussing it, I didn't have to scroll down. Anyway, can't wait to carry on with this. Reminds me a bit of Game of Thrones, in the French revolution even though the characters have British accents, which is fine since I'm British myself, but would make better sense if they were French accents, or speak French with English subtitles.

In the end the modern day Assassins didn't bother to look for Germain's remains in the Paris catacombs (which didn't really make sense after going through all that) but Shaun and Rebecca got ambushed in Buckingham while searching for the Shroud of Eden. They survived the events of Syndicate. Now the last AC I played was Origins and I don't remember them being there, but it seems they appear again in Valhalla. The latest that we know of the Assassins in terms of timeline, is that they are still an active organization in our near future, which is something we learn from... Watch Dogs Legion =O

Damn the first two chapters of this story are quite sardonic. Arno and Elise as children meet and become friends at a party, they cause mischief and Elise allures Arno and makes him chase her around - until they return to find Arno’s father dead.
And then the story is repeated thirteen years later with Elise’s father and Arno’s adoptive father - Arno even mutters to himself “she always did love the chase” when running after Elise. And then they meet and kiss and joke around after causing mischief, but Elise needs to send Arno away while she distracts the guards - and on his way out, Arno watches Elise’s father - his own adoptive father too, Francois de la Serre - choke on his own blood and die after being assassinated.
What makes it worse is that Arno’s story doesn’t quite get better after he joins the Assassins. As I understand it: Arno’s own mentor tries to poison Elise because she’s from the Templars but of course Arno has to save her and kill Bellec in turn. Because of this, Arno is expelled from the France Brotherhood - so he and Elise set out to tie up their loose ends, and then Arno watches the love of his life die on their final mission. There is nothing left for him in France - he has lost his motivation, his family, his brotherhood, and worst of all he’s lost his soulmate.
I don’t understand the lore of the Dead Kings DLC but that at least has some hope for Arno, as he eventually rejoins the France Brotherhood and works hard to become a Master Assassin, a title of which he does obtain. But even though he has his Brotherhood back, he still has no family left - no one he really truly cares for, and likewise nobody who truly cares for him.

I read a summary of what happened at the French Revolution and it made it even more pleasing to watch knowing the historic background beforehand

Really enjoyed the start of this game, beautiful, but after Arno joined the brotherhood, that good feeling gone.

Until Arno's ending speech, I never would have guessed he was an atheist (perhaps after the deaths of his father, adopted father, and the love of his life, not to mention the Church's role in the Revolution, I guess he lost hope). The Assassins are multicultural and are of various faiths & beliefs (including lack thereof), I was always under the impression that the Creed is existential-like but not to the point that it would rule-out God (that's likely just Arno's take on it.....and Altair's). On the other hand, the Sage (aka Aita/Hades/Pluto) seems to recognize there's a God (assuming his "dying" words to King Phillip and them at the beginning weren't empty threats).

jack whyatt IMO Ezio's robe does look good, but it still looks very dated and I've gotten bored of it after seeing it in three games.

Maysaf.Altair bringing the brotherhood back until he was eventually seen as a traitor
Monteriggioni the fall of monteriggioni after the attacks of cesare armys for the piece of eden resulting ezio to go to Rome and unite the brotherhood
The american colonies rathohaketon along with Achilles reunited the brotherhood in north america.
Man I just love the small detail ubisoft puts in their cutscenes

2:44:53 I just LOVE how those enemies can tell who you are with incredible ease from far away and often aggro you very fast no matter what your outfit is. But all of a sudden, just because you’ve got your hands behind your back, they can’t tell who you fucking are.
