Our Final episode. what do you think about Durres is it more Miami of Albania? what do you think of albania overall?
Durres, known in ancient times as Epidamnos or Epidamnus, was founded by Greek colonists from Corinth around the 7th century BCE. These Greek settlers established Epidamnos as a colony, taking advantage of its strategic location on the coast of present-day Albania. So yes, the city of Durres was founded by Greeks, but it's worth noting that it has a much older history as an Illyrian settlement before Greek colonization

Thank you, lady for sharing your great impressions !
Pls, kindly correct the historical reference of one of the most ancient city in Albania and in the Mediterranean ! Dyrrah, was its name then, under the domain of the Illyrian tribe named Taulanti. The colons (hence the name), from the Hellenic tribe of Corinthians, settled there at a later time.
If you haven't noticed it already, :) we, the Albanians, are sensitive to the historical references, especially the incorrect ones.

A small greek colony has always been found in this city. However, the founders of the city are the Taulants, an Illyrian tribe. The homeland of the Taulant tribe for thousands of years has been Tirane, Durres, Kavaje and the surrounding areas. Tribalism in southern and central Albania continued until the late middle ages. It continues to a lesser extent in nothern Albania and Kosovo

  • @recobra
    @recobra 3 месяца назад +5

Epidam was founded in the 11th century BC and not in the 7th. By the 7th century, it was called Dyrrah. It was an Illyrian city and was founded by the Illyrians, belonging to one of the greatest ruling dynasties of the Illyrian kingdom the Taulanti. So one of the biggest and oldest Illyrian cities was surely not founded by some people who only came to Europe 4 centuries before the founding of the city of Durres. The Hellenic colons came later to Durres and Apolonia but they never founded these cities. These cities were and have always been Illyrian. Please get the correct information before spreading lies or misinformation. There is not a single city in the entire territory of Illyria( 400.000 km2) that was founded by Hellens, not a single one.

I have kept coming back cuz it really stole my heart. I have made very good friends there too. Albanians are the most generous and helpful people I have met and I always miss this country. Durres didnt come from greek hahaha is a illyrian language and greek langauge is albanian language changed from marco bocari in 1825, the term greek mean those with orthodox faith like bisantine empire albanian laguange is proto indo europian the root of all langauge in world over 7000 years old. 70% of world have origin from pelazgian illyrian tribes
In the publications and archival sources, there is no doubt that the Durrës toponym comes from the Middle Ages, from the last millennium. It is to be believed, that the designation Durrës is a lexical play in time of the ancient name Dyrrah, just as the Latinized name Dyrrachium was played by the Romans, in the Italianized name Durazzo by the Italians (Venetians) during the Middle Ages. The derivation of the name Durrës from the name Dyrrah speaks of a direct dependence of these two toponyms, of belonging to the same urban civic space, so it goes without saying that the medieval Durrës and that of the Ré period are located on the same urban civic space of ancient Dyrrah. The archeological topography map drawn by us, proves the best and vice versa, that Dyrrah, hidden underground, lies under the area of today's Durres, that is, not only on the eastern slopes of the hill range, but also in the urban plain space below them, up to also on the water banks of the Lagoon (Swamp) turned into a construction area.

First of all.... The people who live in so called Greece today used to be called "Romej" during Byzantine Empire and "Raja" during Ottoman Empire times (except the Arvanitas who used to be called always by their name like "Albani", "Arbanoi", etc.) and the name "Greece" never existed during Byzantine times.
During Ottoman times in the Balkans, after the big powers pushed for an uprising in the place that today is called "Greece", an independent country was formed in 1821-1832. The majority of the population there was of Arvanitas (and Chameria) stock, they also were the backbone of the uprising for independence from the Ottoman Empire. The rest of the minority population was of Slav, Turks and Aromanian stock.
After the gain of independence the place was so divided, and with a prolonged civil war that a real country could not be formed.
Fearing the disintegration of the place after Ottomans left (and possibility of a return of the Ottomans), Prince Otto of Germany was brought in by European powers to clear the mess and do nation - building there. He was proclaimed King of the place by big powers and given plenipotentiary powers.
The Price Otto royal family in Germany happen to be an admirer of the ancient civilizations, one of them being the extinct so called ancient made up "Greek" civilization, traces and archeological findings of which are also seen in that region called today "Greece" as well.
Being an ancient history romantic and buff, Otto came up with the idea, that the only way to keep the place together and for a chance to build a country there, was to adopt/impose some kind of neutral/foreign ancient language and culture for all people living in that place, that will make possible for the people to stick together under one language and culture imposed on them.
So with a special royal decree, he proclaimed a version of the ancient "Greek" (the easier one to be taught and learned by people there in those times) as an official language of the place, and also came up with the new name for the place, calling it with a special royal decree "Greece".
Everything else was banned, and the new "country" formed, was ordered to be rebuild anew in resemblance of the old romantic view of the so called ancient Greek civilization, starting with the buildings, names of people, places, cities and villages, regions, mountains, fields and all were changed to made-up names loaned by the ancient literature of so called ancient "Greek" civilization.
This of course was associated with money brought by European powers to rebuild. The more people in that place agreed with the change of their true national and ethnic identity and declare themselves artificially "Greeks/Helenes" and adopt to the new order, the more money was to be pouring in.
Naturally, the strongest resistance to this artificial and made-up solution, was made by the Arvanitas (and Chameria), but at no avail.
It is legendary, the loss by one vote in the Price Otto's Parliament of that time, of Arvanitas proposal to have the Albanian (Arvanite) language as an official language of the place called 'Greece" today, and to call the new country "Arvanoi" (instead of "Greece").
There is plenty of scientific and factual evidence, archival and historical documents, as well as studies and publications by major authors and authorities in the field about as above.
One interesting fact here, is that one of the earlier German/Austrian well known historians and scientists of that time, Fallmerayer, alerted Prince Otto and others to this nonsense, of declaring a whole people (slavs, arabs, latins) and place by a name not belonging to them, and injecting an extinct language, culture and civilization on people who had no idea about it and did not belong to it at all, the exception of course being Albanians that are native in the region.
By the way, Fallmerayer, is a banned figure and historian in what is called Greece today.
Germany is still paying for the Otto's mistake, even today. It has gotten stuck with the country so called "Greece". It is now forced to pour free money, even today, out of Germany's pocket (through European Union as well) year after year to keep it alive and going, as this "Greece" cannot stand on its own. It is an artificial creation of Prince Otto's fantasy (a "zombie" country so to speak), and the new generations of the Germans and Europeans are continuing to pay the price for it.
Moreover, what Prince Otto did back then, is tantamount to ethnic cleansing. He forced inhabitants of a whole region/place (called "Greece" today) to change by force their culture, language, national and ethnic identity to something else that those people were not, so they could artificially change in order to look modern and civilized (like ancient Greeks in Otto's personal view) and possibly be united. And of course, Arvanites and Chams (as the majority population in the region) suffered mostly from this ethnic cleansing.
All this revelation, informs another major point: history taught about what today is called Greece, it appears to be taught wrong (you for an example and many others). People are wrongly taught in schools that today's Greece and its people are the direct descendants of ancient Greeks. Greece and Greeks of today, in some extend, also think they are superior to others just because they are called "Greeks" and their country "Greece" by decree (not by the virtue of the truth). They also seem to believe for some reason, they are entitled to the German and European money being handed out to them.
The school textbooks and historiography should change, telling people the truth as it is. And with this, will come many other changes, in the way we see relations with the country called "Greece" today. Another fun fact, Greece carries the law of war against Albanian, the reason being because Albanians predate them and the Greeks fear this so instead they want to wipe us out like what Israel is doing against Palestinians, the same thing Greeks did with Albanians in western Greece.

Greek colonialists expanded the city also and they are part of the history. And we are giving people a bit of the history we are not here to teach a lesson. Overall this is our world problem people are connected to history and fight for but if you look closely lots of people fought for years and died and the lands they fought for are empty. History is a past and you seem so attached to it. What you can change is the future, in order to make the world a better place we need to stop fighting for history and the past but instead learn from it and become better. This is my message to you and to the world. The less you belong the happier you live❤️ i am Lebanese and what israel is doing to palestine is also happening in Lebanon. So again what they fight for is history. That we need to change it is sad what is happening but this happened for years across the globe. And the reason for is people are attach to something don’t belong to them. Soon we all gonna die and nobody is going to remember us neither one of us is taking anything everything stays here. Isn’t that a big sign that we don’t belong here? Then what are we fighting for the history? I have been through wars myself and the one thing i learned is to say bye and leave to another place. The less you belong the more happy you live it is that simple❤️

You don’t have to be negative ❤️ Later, during the Hellenistic period, Durres became known as Epidamnos (or Epidamnus) and was settled by Greek colonists from Corinth around the 7th century BCE. The Greeks expanded the city and established it as a prominent trading hub. Call wikipedia and tell them to change history 😉 and the tax joke. You don’t live in The Netherlands to understand so don’t get offended on something you don’t know, it is a waste of your good energy 🙃

Wikipedia: Durres, known in ancient times as Epidamnos or Epidamnus, was indeed founded by Greek colonists from Corinth around the 7th century BCE. These Greek settlers established Epidamnos as a colony, taking advantage of its strategic location on the coast of present-day Albania. So yes, the city of Durres was founded by Greeks, but it's worth noting that it has a much older history as an Illyrian settlement before Greek colonization.
I don’t make the story it is everywhere on the internet 🙃❤️
