- Well its been a long time coming but i've finally done my next Monkey Island vid. This is the opening sequence to the Curse of monkey Island - my personal favourite. While I'm here i thought i'd tell you all that i am going to make lots more videos but im not going to do the entire game. I just feel that to enjoy the story fully you must buy the game and do the playing. So if you havent already i advise you to do so. :D.

seen the intro a hundred times and i could see it a hundred more and still get chills down my spine when the camera pans over the water and the music plays :)
I love how the title logo blazes onto the screen as the theme kicks in. Very well done.
Most amazing game intro ever.
It sets the mood for a grand adventure better than any other game intros before or since.
And I was 7! Still remember those times!
I have never played this game much, but I had to have this as a favorite video because the intro music is so beautiful!
I remember playing this game so long ago, it was outstanding and most games today can't even compare to it. Like said by others above, its a great story, has excellent music, its funny, ingenuous, this game has it all.
Ah...that makes alot of sense. I remember playing games like these when I was younger, I loved 'em.

Actually Ron Gilbert, creator of the MI games has stated that the Pirates of the Carribean ride was the direct inspiration for the game series. And the movies were based on the ride by the company who owns the copyrights for both, which gives the movies every legal right to use stuff from the ride. MI is a parody, something completely different.

The music is also fantastic!
Monkey Island did use some things from that amusement ride, but the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have also used a lot of things that were originally a part of MI series. That's the truth.
Unfortunately, I never played CMI before, but this video makes me wanna play it right now!

@ReverendSyn: Yeah, thx for the info. I heard of that ride being the inspiration for both MI and PotC so many times now, but I still can't imagine how they got the whole story from it! I mean, are all those details which MI and PotC have in common, like the voodoo lady, actually from that ride? I guess you gotta take that ride to believe it, huh?

Yeah. Its not so much if the same LEGO bricks are used, it's what you make when you assemble them together with that counts. Nothing truly new under the sun as they say, but you can always put a number of neat spins on a similar concept.

This intro is still the most awesome intro to a computer game...never finished this game...perhaps I should. That would probably mean that it has taken me over a decade to finish this computer game if I did...not much to brag about.
Grim Fandango is at the same level of Monkey Island saga and they are the best games ever.

well said... though you're partially incorrect. Tia Daima used the Voodoo Lady in the Monkey Island games as a template as to who she should act in the PotC films... otherwise you're correct

Actually PotC is based idrectly on a Disney ride thats been around for decades. Ron Gilbert states that the same ride was his direct inspiration for the game. Not saying the game isnt good. Its great, but the movies are not a ripoff of the games by any means.

An official at Lucasarts said while their plate is currently full admittedly with Star Wars games they haven't completely abandoned the property and WOULD like to get back to MI eventually. And since the prequels are done things are starting to settle down maybe theyll get back to other games too. Unfortunately SW DOES draw in the big bucks.

The puzzles in this one got a little out of hand, and became a bit unbalanced.
But still, an amazing game, and the stunning graphics and sounds make up for everything.

Monkey Island 1-3, Sam & Max and Simon the Sorcerer ( they are all ok but 3 had terrible controls ) are my favourite games ever.

Blooms charactr is a competant, straightforward leading man who chooses to go on adventures, Guybrush is a naive loveably inept bumbler who pretty much winds up in an adventure and manages to win only by blind luck. Bloom has brown hair and beard, Guybrush is blonde and cleanshaven. And finally Bloom has never used a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle.
Play Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. Guybrush has blonde hair and a beard in that.

I have a question... is MI was a "total ripoff of PotC", how is it it was made BEFORE Disney even made their PotC ride? as ReverendSyn said... there's nothing between them, just all a coincidence
No he doesn't. Not in the English version anyway.
In that regard I stand corrected. But Theyre still fairly different characters. And for the record I don't view MI as any sort of a ripoff. Just saing chronologically PotF the ride came long before MI so the movies in no way shape or form a ripoff of the game.

Pirates of the caribbean stole too much from Monkey Island.
Cause of that Monkey Island movie would be too much like Pirates of the caribbean.
I don`t like the graphics, the voice acting or the dialogue.
HEy, there are Zomibies in Evil Dead and Shaun of the dead! THat must bew irrefutable proof Shaun must have been created by directly copying off Sam Raimis work!!!
Similar concepts can be arrived at by two entirely different people who never met. It IS possible you know.
