  • I don't like to boast but my Bertslides have been fine-tuned to near perfection. It took hours of practice, repetition, and video analysis to figure this out and I was hesitant to share the secret to these, but I think it is time! This video will first show you the little things that make a big difference in style points when doing bertslides on a bank, and then walk you step-by-step through doing them yourself.
Before starting it would be helpful to have a feel for doing a bertslide on flat ground, and be comfortable carving on an inclined bank. You can do this on pretty much any board, with any wheels, it is all about the technique of unweighting your board by shifting your weight to your hand, so don't worry about the size or hardness of your wheels, just keep practicing this technique.
If you find my tutorials useful in helping your progress and are interested in supporting more videos like this, you can buy me a coffee at www.buymeacoff...
Please try this out and let me know in the comments how you are progressing or if you are having trouble with any of the steps.

Thanks! This is the thing, I have been doing these for a while and I always noticed that some looked good and some looked bad when I reviewed the video. Some that I thought would look great because I went higher or faster actually looked really awkward. So I finally spent some time analyzing why I liked the ones I did, and tried to do the right things more consistently.

If you can do this on land, you are definitely can do it on waves in San Onofre CA. On the average, the waves rolling out here are soft and slow.

Absolute gold! Are those the Carver Park Wheels? Where can I buy the SurfSkateLife T-Shirt? Thank you

Thanks! I’m using a variety of boards and wheels here but no Carver park wheels! Part of the point is to show that technique overrides equipment. Everything in here from 59mm Bones roughriders to 69mm roundhouse concaves!
Thrilled that you like the SurfSkateLife shirt, I am currently trying to sort out global shipping options to make it available everywhere for a reasonable cost. If you are in North America, let me know and I can get you something earlier. Website should be up in the next little while. Cheers!

Real clean, nice bs bert, have you tried it switch?

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer

My switch skills are pretty basic, but considering spending some more time trying it, there is one spot that I love that better suits a goofy footer.

Just subbed your channel, your style is righteous. Snowboarding and wakeboarding some how helped out my 4 corners or switch, which is regular. I'm a righty at everything except pool and skating. Where do you shred?

Great tutorial! Can I ask what wrist guards you’re wearing that give you enough flexibility to plant your hand, yet still protect your wrists? Looked like a couple shots you weren’t wearing them on your plant hand, but some you were.

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer
      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer  3 года назад +1

Thanks! We actually just have a box full of random pads, some of which might be 20 years old! Nothing purchased new recently that I have been using so I think a recommendation may be unhelpful. But I keep respraining my wrist so pads are definitely present in a lot of my vids. The reason I made this video backside only is because of the aforementioned wrist sprain on my other wrist. I also find it helpful wearing wrist guards when you have a lot of speed because your planted hand will actually slide along the ground and the wrist guards protect from friction burns!

Thank you so much Guillaume! I love to surfskate, I love to make videos, and I deliver training in my day job, so it is fun to put everything together and hear that people are actually finding it helpful. Thank you so much for your support, it already has me motivated to start thinking of the next one.

Thanks Michal! Good to see you studying as you heal up. Honestly being injured is what helped me nail these, since I couldn’t plant my left hand and didn’t want to risk falling on it, I just practiced these over and over. Thank you so much for the coffee as well, it is motivating to get back to work on the next video! Cheers from Canada.

The comparison between the ugly and handsome bert slides have me rolling laughing. Thanks for the extremely entertaining and informative video! I've truly been struggling with the old-man-looking-for-contact-lens posture on my BS berts, so I can't wait to try out your suggestions! Would love to see your take on FS berts as well.

Glad you enjoyed that and hoping that it helps! Originally the intent was to do both but then I went and sprained my left wrist trying to grind down a staircase ledge! So it will be a future video, might combine it with laybacks.
