I have been in love with the look and shape of 1970's and 1980's Kawasaki and Honda motorcycles for the longest time. The liter motorcycles like this are so comfortable. I think they are more comfortable than the new motorcycles. Less plastic too, which tells you these older motorcycles will still be on the roads 80+ years from today verses the newer plastic riddled motorcycles that will fall apart in just 10 to 15 years from today. It's incredible how well these vintage motorcycles were constructed. They are built to run indefinitely, as long as you maintain it. The newer motorcycles have a shelf life.

@@kurtmyers1794 I bought a 12 year old Silver Celica in the early '90's as a station car, hoping it would last a year. Plugs, cap, rotor and 1 brake job in 20K. 5 years later I sold it for $900, 2 times what I paid and had in. I think the engine was 2TC? Anyway, in 2001 or 2, I see it at a 7-11. I knew it was the same car because the oxidation pattern (metallic paint) was so unique. Still on the road. 2nd best used car I ever owned as far as reliability and low maintenance. The best (by far) was a 2000 LeSabre limited. That car was so good, I sold my S80 because I stopped driving it. What a car.
This (youtube channel) is his job though. Most of us don't get to stop working for long, once we have a baby. I'm not saying he/anyone should or shouldn't do anything. I'm just saying what reality is for most of us. Congratulations too, Chris and Jen.
I'm an old retired mechanic and really enjoy your channel. Also had several Kaw's back in the mid 70's (Z1 and later a KZ1000) So I love the bike video's. Am in the process right now of restoring an 81 KZ1100 Shaft drive, and going to make a trike out of it via a kit, that has a reverse function.. Ride on brother ! !

I have fond memories of he era. I had a Kaw triple/2 cycle and I wanted to trade it on the new K1 900 being introduced that year. Great memories of a very historic time in cycle development.
Thanks for posting... I bought one of the first 1973 903 z1's out of the box in Lancaster TX (just south of Dallas). I watched the mechanic unbox and assemble it. I told him I didn't want any other butt setting on that seat but mine. When he started it and let it warm up he suddenly jumped on it and ripped it up and down the highway. Upon his return I let him know I didn't appreciate what he had just done. He then told me he was required, from Kawasaki, that he had to do that to seat the rings before delivery. I enjoyed that bike for thousands of miles for many many years. I don't remember anyone else holding the bars but me, although there might have been one or two; but I don't remember.
Great almost, - chuckle- memory. You got me to thinking about my similar experience... thanks for sharing and jostling my little gray cells. There is in all of us motorheads in our past a set of wheels we hold close to our heartstrings all the way to our graves.
Weird. A bit unChris-like😊 The only brand new Kawasaki I ever bought was an 88 KLR and the mechanic when servicing it new left a handprint of battery acid that stayed on that Big 6 gallon tank forever
I haven't ridden a motorbike since my teenage years back in the 80s, but still love to watch the "will it run" vids on them. It's about the journey, not the destination. Greetings to you and your family from New Zealand.
I can appreciate the “good to ride” criteria for the many machines you own. It seems no matter how hard you try to protect and eliminate any sort of damage something always happens. I look back and realize that I enjoyed the vehicles that were just daily drivers. It’s very difficult in my opinion to have a show quality every day or even every weekend driver. My philosophy is to focus on the pure mechanical aspects and keep up the appearance at a decent level and run the tires off. My hats off to those who can keep there vehicles running and always looking immaculate. I like the content and information learned from your knowledge and experience.
Hey Chris, I'm a heavy duty mechanic and I love your videos I get excited every time you put something new out, keep up the good work my friend! For what it's worth my daughter had reflux issues aswell, once we found the right formula it started to go away which was a huge relief for me and my wife, I hope that helps, take care man. Thank you for this video. When I was 21 years old, I bought a brand new 1985 Kawasaki 550 LTD that looked a lot like that. I drove it in Wisconsin for 2 years, so it had under 1000 miles on it when I moved to Dallas, Texas, for a job. It was too dangerous to ride a motorcycle in Dallas traffic, so I parked it until 1989 when I sold it. I sure miss that bike now that I'm retired and I live in the countryside again. Good memories, gave me chills watching you work on it. Thanks again.
I had a Kaw just like this one w/o windscreen. Went on vacation July 1982. Colorado, Utah and back home. A little over 7,000 miles in two weeks. Great bike, no problems. Have fun, be safe !
Bringing back memories for me too I had a 1300 Kawasaki Voyager. Bought it from a guy had been sitting only about 5 years but long enough that he tried to start it and gummed all the injectors up. Once I tore the fuel system all apart and cleaned it was the smoothest running bike I ever threw a leg over. Great video Chris!

My room mate had this exact bike, same color. First nice March day after an IL winter we take it out for a Saturday afternoon ride, maybe after a pop or two?. About a mile from the house, we're doing 50 mph on a 4 lane road, a bike in the other direction waves at us, roomie drops it a gear and pulls the front waay up. I'm on the back and feel the bike go past the center of gravity and start heading backwards, I give it a quick lean forward and it sets back down. Roomie turns back to me and says "THANKS!" Thanks for jarring loose this memory!
Had something similar, riding with my mate on his Suzuki GS400 some 25yrs ago, he struggled to get around a slow curve and I just rocked the center of gravity with my fat ass and we made it somehow...it could work... 🙃😉

Spick was a nail and span a wooden chip back in the 1500's. A ship was considered spick and span when all the nails and chips where new. Love the channel btw!
Thanks for the memories. In 1987, I bought that very bike which was my first and last bike. I really do miss the ride. Opened up, that bike puts out a unique sound, which I heard on this episode for the first time since I sold it to a neighbor in 1994. I really needed the cash. He kept the remains of an old bike he wrecked in his garage for years, saying he was going to rebuild that bike someday. Well, I sold him my bike and oh how thrilled he was to get it. He had the bike less than a year before he wrecked that bike to. I guess he's got what remains of it in his garage next to the other one.
Fun to watch you revive that old 1000...I had a CSR650, same color back in the early eighties, not as fast, but fast enough! I found it in a friend's yard in Brookline, NH...he told me a couple years ago I could just have it if I'd get it out of his yard...wish I had the tools and the time, and the NNKH...I'd love to bring that baby back! In about 1986, my roommate, Big Jim had that bike. He painted it metallic blue in the kitchen when the rest of us were out of the house for a bit. He put drag bars on it in a small Tracy fairing.
Man you have come a long way over the years. I recently watched your old stuff. And seeing how things have changed over the years is amazing. From when you adopted Guss as a pup to the back yard with a new shed to now a baby.
I grew up down the road from Reading, Pa so I had to look into that battery manufacturer, I bet it was Yuasa Battery Inc, never knew they existed, only ever knew about Deka. Love finding things made in PA, there’s so much stuff out there. Love these kinds of videos, keep these old machines alive!

When I first got married around 21 years old, I have a 74Z1 900 superfast accelerator pump smooth board carbs 16 inch back wheel set load of the ground. It ran fast 13 in the quarter. I had one daughter and one on the way and my wife said get rid of it. I'd like to have you around for a while. I sold it to an Oriental dude who took it back to Japan and he gave me a very pretty penny for it because I had all the stock exhaust Carbs, etc., kill me to sell it, but I'm glad I did. It's a really good video. You're gonna be a killer family you guys.🤣👍🍺👌💯.
I love the bike videos. I love the boat videos. I love the car videos. Doesn't matter what you're working on, I just enjoy your content in a way that's kind of hard to describe. I think it's your resourcefulness and your ability to make things work when the average mechanic would deem it hopeless. NNKH is the channel I never knew I always needed.

Got mine after it was crashed, I had it a month and forgot to put up the kick stand. 60 mph into guardrail. Only 3 months in the hospital. Helmet saved my life. went face first into instrument cluster. Love your Videos.

Your confidence with fixing vehicles up is astounding! It shows that you have years and years of experience! It's videos like these that saved my motorcycle trip to Norway! Being stranded in Germany with a burned out stator made me worry the trip was over for sure! And it being summer and motorcycle season, every mechanic was fully booked. Until one mechanic said it was ok to use their tools and give it a try myself! Your videos gave me the confidence that I could do it, even though it was my very first time tinkering on the bike. The chinesium replacement stator that I could get the same day (without having to wait at least a week for an OEM part) luckily hold up for the rest of the trip 😅 Keep up the good work Chris!
Love the bike videos! I was a mechanic at several dealerships back in the 1980s. One thing to keep in mind with the KZ 1000.. it can be difficult getting the shims if needed when adjusting valve clearance.
Love the variety in your videos, Chris. Never owned a motorbike, so didn't appreciate how the engine and brakes, etc are miniature versions of what's in a car - Doh! Autumn's looking great. She's so lucky to have Jen and you caring for her.
I'm too old to ride a bike anymore but I used to and it was more often than not a Kawasaki. I really enjoyed the bike video, as most RUclipsrs focus on cars, so a nice change to see a bike done. Thanks, Rob.
Enjoyed seeing that KZ come back to life! I think motorcycle content isn't as popular because most people don't ride and can't relate whereas everyone has probably had a car or truck before. Love love love your videos. I used to own a 1980 Suzuki GS850GS shafty which had essentially the same carbs as this KZ. Watching you get that bike running brought back some memories.
Bring on the moto videos, love them here! It seems other motorcycle creators (will it run, style), gloss over all the little bits - like taking apart carbs, checking brake pistons, bleeding out cruddy brake fluid and cleaning master cylinders, electrical diagnosis, etc. It was cool to see you do all of those while still keeping the momentum going. I'm still looking for my first 80s-90s bike to put back on the road, your video also helps with motivation!
Enjoyed this very much! Bought back memories from the mid 70s. My dad had the previous model 900 Z1. If I remember correctly it was the quickest production motor- cycle of the era.
My trick for protection in storage was to spray aheavy coating of Pledge furniture polish. Then in the spring, wash it off and it was nice and shiny and no rust on the chrome. I personally like the bike videos, but then I really enjoy all your videos Chris. Enjoy being a dad!

Liked video very much Chris! Had a US imported LTD750 from1983 as my first bike.. really loved that machine. The sound of this one brought back good memories. Drove fantastic, but I agree on you that it is quite small. I’m 1,9m long, so actually the seat was to close to tank and so. The turn signals are linked to the speedometer I think. That makes them turn off. Build a relay in that turned off the lights during start. You may also take a look at the chain tensioner from the cam shaft. My chain made quite some noise, but by simple reverse the ware piece in the tensioner is was gone! Nice machine to keep as a conclusion.. But most of all… enjoy your great family! We have 4 kids in the mean time, changes a lot in your available time, but it means prioritise! Family first.. keep up the great work! Boats, cars, bikes, all great! Maybe something European in the near future? 😊
Hi Chris, when recovering bikes, always best to use a soft rope around the forks, and pull on/lower - with a winchline, ask me how I know this 😲, keep up the good work 👍

I can appreciate the “good to ride” criteria for the many machines you own. It seems no matter how hard you try to protect and eliminate any sort of damage something always happens. I look back and realize that I enjoyed the vehicles that were just daily drivers. It’s very difficult in my opinion to have a show quality every day or even every weekend driver. My philosophy is to focus on the pure mechanical aspects and keep up the appearance at a decent level and run the tires off. My hats off to those who can keep there vehicles running and always looking immaculate. I like the content and information learned from your knowledge and experience.
Hey Chris, I'm a heavy duty mechanic and I love your videos I get excited every time you put something new out, keep up the good work my friend! For what it's worth my daughter had reflux issues aswell, once we found the right formula it started to go away which was a huge relief for me and my wife, I hope that helps, take care man. Thank you for this video. When I was 21 years old, I bought a brand new 1985 Kawasaki 550 LTD that looked a lot like that. I drove it in Wisconsin for 2 years, so it had under 1000 miles on it when I moved to Dallas, Texas, for a job. It was too dangerous to ride a motorcycle in Dallas traffic, so I parked it until 1989 when I sold it.
I sure miss that bike now that I'm retired and I live in the countryside again. Good memories, gave me chills watching you work on it.

I had a Kaw just like this one w/o windscreen. Went on vacation July 1982. Colorado, Utah and back home. A little over 7,000 miles in two weeks. Great bike, no problems. Have fun, be safe !

Bringing back memories for me too I had a 1300 Kawasaki Voyager. Bought it from a guy had been sitting only about 5 years but long enough that he tried to start it and gummed all the injectors up. Once I tore the fuel system all apart and cleaned it was the smoothest running bike I ever threw a leg over. Great video Chris!

My room mate had this exact bike, same color.
First nice March day after an IL winter we take it out for a Saturday afternoon ride, maybe after a pop or two?.
About a mile from the house, we're doing 50 mph on a 4 lane road, a bike in the other direction waves at us, roomie drops it a gear and pulls the front waay up. I'm on the back and feel the bike go past the center of gravity and start heading backwards, I give it a quick lean forward and it sets back down.
Roomie turns back to me and says "THANKS!"

Had something similar, riding with my mate on his Suzuki GS400 some 25yrs ago, he struggled to get around a slow curve and I just rocked the center of gravity with my fat ass and we made it somehow...it could work...

Spick was a nail and span a wooden chip back in the 1500's. A ship was considered spick and span when all the nails and chips where new. Love the channel btw!

Thanks for the memories. In 1987, I bought that very bike which was my first and last bike. I really do miss the ride. Opened up, that bike puts out a unique sound, which I heard on this episode for the first time since I sold it to a neighbor in 1994. I really needed the cash. He kept the remains of an old bike he wrecked in his garage for years, saying he was going to rebuild that bike someday. Well, I sold him my bike and oh how thrilled he was to get it. He had the bike less than a year before he wrecked that bike to. I guess he's got what remains of it in his garage next to the other one.

Fun to watch you revive that old 1000...I had a CSR650, same color back in the early eighties, not as fast, but fast enough! I found it in a friend's yard in Brookline, NH...he told me a couple years ago I could just have it if I'd get it out of his yard...wish I had the tools and the time, and the NNKH...I'd love to bring that baby back! In about 1986, my roommate, Big Jim had that bike. He painted it metallic blue in the kitchen when the rest of us were out of the house for a bit. He put drag bars on it in a small Tracy fairing.

I grew up down the road from Reading, Pa so I had to look into that battery manufacturer, I bet it was Yuasa Battery Inc, never knew they existed, only ever knew about Deka. Love finding things made in PA, there’s so much stuff out there. Love these kinds of videos, keep these old machines alive!

When I first got married around 21 years old, I have a 74Z1 900 superfast accelerator pump smooth board carbs 16 inch back wheel set load of the ground. It ran fast 13 in the quarter. I had one daughter and one on the way and my wife said get rid of it. I'd like to have you around for a while. I sold it to an Oriental dude who took it back to Japan and he gave me a very pretty penny for it because I had all the stock exhaust Carbs, etc., kill me to sell it, but I'm glad I did. It's a really good video. You're gonna be a killer family you guys.🤣👍🍺👌💯.

Got mine after it was crashed, I had it a month and forgot to put up the kick stand. 60 mph into guardrail. Only 3 months in the hospital. Helmet saved my life. went face first into instrument cluster. Love your Videos.

It's videos like these that saved my motorcycle trip to Norway!
Being stranded in Germany with a burned out stator made me worry the trip was over for sure!
And it being summer and motorcycle season, every mechanic was fully booked. Until one mechanic said it was ok to use their tools and give it a try myself!
Your videos gave me the confidence that I could do it, even though it was my very first time tinkering on the bike.
The chinesium replacement stator that I could get the same day (without having to wait at least a week for an OEM part) luckily hold up for the rest of the trip 😅

Love the bike videos! I was a mechanic at several dealerships back in the 1980s. One thing to keep in mind with the KZ 1000.. it can be difficult getting the shims if needed when adjusting valve clearance.
Love the variety in your videos, Chris. Never owned a motorbike, so didn't appreciate how the engine and brakes, etc are miniature versions of what's in a car - Doh! Autumn's looking great. She's so lucky to have Jen and you caring for her.
I'm too old to ride a bike anymore but I used to and it was more often than not a Kawasaki. I really enjoyed the bike video, as most RUclipsrs focus on cars, so a nice change to see a bike done. Thanks, Rob.
Enjoyed seeing that KZ come back to life! I think motorcycle content isn't as popular because most people don't ride and can't relate whereas everyone has probably had a car or truck before. Anyway, I do hope to see more motorcycle videos in the future. Good luck with the baby! I bet you two miss a whole nights sleep, I know I did when I was in your shoes.

Love love love your videos. I used to own a 1980 Suzuki GS850GS shafty which had essentially the same carbs as this KZ. Watching you get that bike running brought back some memories.
Bring on the moto videos, love them here! It seems other motorcycle creators (will it run, style), gloss over all the little bits - like taking apart carbs, checking brake pistons, bleeding out cruddy brake fluid and cleaning master cylinders, electrical diagnosis, etc. It was cool to see you do all of those while still keeping the momentum going. I'm still looking for my first 80s-90s bike to put back on the road, your video also helps with motivation!

Enjoyed this very much! Bought back memories from the mid 70s. My dad had the
previous model 900 Z1. If I remember correctly it was the quickest production motor-
cycle of the era.
My trick for protection in storage was to spray aheavy coating of Pledge furniture polish. Then in the spring, wash it off and it was nice and shiny and no rust on the chrome.
I personally like the bike videos, but then I really enjoy all your videos Chris. Enjoy being a dad!

Liked video very much Chris! Had a US imported LTD750 from1983 as my first bike.. really loved that machine. The sound of this one brought back good memories. Drove fantastic, but I agree on you that it is quite small. I’m 1,9m long, so actually the seat was to close to tank and so. The turn signals are linked to the speedometer I think. That makes them turn off. Build a relay in that turned off the lights during start. You may also take a look at the chain tensioner from the cam shaft. My chain made quite some noise, but by simple reverse the ware piece in the tensioner is was gone! Nice machine to keep as a conclusion.. But most of all… enjoy your great family! We have 4 kids in the mean time, changes a lot in your available time, but it means prioritise! Family first.. keep up the great work! Boats, cars, bikes, all great! Maybe something European in the near future? 😊
