Mystic Warriors: Wrath of the Ninjas, known in Japan as Mystic Warriors: Ikari no Ninja,[a] is a ninja-themed side-scrolling action game released as an arcade video game by Konami in 1992. It was developed by the same team that produced Sunset Riders and has similar gameplay to its predecessor, along with hack-and-slash elements. It was the debut title for Konami's Mystic Warriors-based hardware.
Mystic Warriors is set in a dystopian future in New York (this is notable due to the World Trade Center being seen in some stages), where an evil organization known as the Skull Enterprise has taken over the nation and plots a worldwide takeover. The player takes control of one of five young ninja who are being targeted by Skull forces: Spyros, Keima, Kojiro, Brad, and Yuri.
The game can be played by up to two or four players (depending on the game's configuration); after each player chooses their character, one of the remaining members of the group will get kidnapped (if four of the five are chosen instead, the last remaining character will be captured), prompting the remaining four to begin their mission. During their journey across several regions of Japan, the four ninja eventually find and rescue their kidnapped friend. However, their reunion is short-lived, and the rescued ninja soon performs a sacrificial move to free them from an electric trap, dying in the process. The rest of the game is spent with the remaining ninja avenging the death of their fallen comrade.
After defeating the Skull forces, the four remaining ninja mourn for the loss of their companion before returning home.

This game was made by the same guys that did Sunset Riders, and it absolutely shows. Not just the play style and stage design, but the art, the enemies and player designs, the power ups... great game.
And the big cinema screen on stage 1 where they literally showed SUNSETRIDERS.

I was living in Misawa Japan when I was a kid and played this game. I never realized till years later that the developers of Sunset Riders did this game as well, even the art style is the same. I'm slow lol. My pops got stationed to Japan so thats how I was living there from 1989-1993. Man I miss living there and the people.

@@gont20xx81 maybe in the super nintendo version. Aska from Tournament Fighters had to change from a thong to bloomers in the american version (aside of his winpose booba jiggle getting censored in the NTSC-U version)

I really enjoy playing this game because it is a fusion of Shinobi and Rolling Thunder. I wish Konami did a game like this that has the feel of Taito's Elevator Action.

I really hope this ends up on Switch and PS4/5 someday. Hamster has been putting out awesome obscure arcade games legally for awhile now with online leaderboards.

Smart choice picking out Yuri - in some videos I watch of Mystic Warriors, someone picks out another character other than Yuri, or worse, it's a four player game and Yuri is left out, making her the damsel in distress.

unfortunately not. If you choose another player, the captured ninja changes, it's the only thing you can change

Wow a black Zen Buddhist monk that’s not an actual Ninja but I guess? Also, girl wearing tight bikini on skis 🎿 doesn’t have a problem with her butt cheeks being cold 🥶 I guess we men of culture can appreciate the bravery. It’s also amazing she can be walk really fast under water and shoots shuriken like it’s never going to run out. Not sure if Konami will censor this since we are in the Woke and Metoo feminist era.

@re_playlongplays Genesis 😀😀 this game holds a special place in my heart. Me and my brother would get to rent one game a week from the video store as kids. We had alot of trouble beating this game so we would have to return the game and rent it again until we finally beat it.
