What headset are you using, if you're using one, and what are your thoughts on it? I've also started a Discord server for fellow dads who want to chat and game with: discord.gg/WEQpuWcfNh
I’ve been using the wireless Rig 800…and there may be some initials after the 800 but I’m not sure. I’ve tried several over years and this brand is the most comfortable. I started using a headset any years ago because I wanted to feel like I was “in the game”. Hearing that surround sound is awesome.
Thank you for the review! It was helpful. What are your thoughts - or from anyone else reading this - about using other headphones with the Astro Mixamp? I have a collection of audiophile headphones. I have been playing Xbox with Audeze LCD-X directly connected to the Elite and Elite II controllers. The reason for choosing the LCD-X over all other headphones in my collection is that the LCD-X is so efficient (20 ohms, 103db sensitivity) that you can run them from *anything* and I mean anything. Even the simple Xbox controller has enough power to power them plenty loud and with no discernable drain on the battery. The only problem is that the LCD-X, as with most Audeze non-gaming headphones, are the heaviest in the audiophile space. Audeze is also amongst the best-tuned and best-sounding headphones out there but the cost is, besides the $$$$, the weight. "Why not just get an Audeze gaming headphone?" I hear you say. Well, I have become very accustomed to the amazing soundstage, deep bass, accurate audio cue presentation of the LCD-X. "So what's your point?" I hear you say. Well, the contender and the master headphones when it comes to soundstage is the Sennheiser HD800 and HD800S. I can use the HD800/S jacked into my AVR which is fine for solo gameplay but it doesn't give me the simulated Dolby or DTS audio and I don't have the Modmic fully integrated in that setup. Currently when I use my LCD-X's I have a ModMic attached and a splitter that goes into the Elite controller. Shout-out to Moon Audio who made me a custom splitter with the TRRS correctly arranged for audio and microphone. And it's not expensive either if you opt for their basic "Blue" copper cables. Nothing fancy but better than anything off the shelf anywhere else and you get to choose the length of the leads. So what I'm hoping to do is use the Astro Mixamp with my Sennheiser HD800S (the "S" model sacrifices some detail compared to the OG HD800 but provides better treble control and more bass omph) and ModMic. The Mixamp should have the power to drive the 300 ohm Senns. The Senns aren't directly inefficient but the 300 ohms resistance needs more current to power them. Regardless of the headphones any one of you are using, if you're using other non-gaming headphones with the Mixamp, please leave me a comment about your experience.
As far as I'm aware, they should work. I've tried the Sony XM4 and XM5 and both work on the mix amp, but I haven't tried other brand headphones so I couldn't say for sure.
I got a pair for for 30 usd auctioned on eBay with the mix amp and all the cables I’m using some cheap gaming headphones I’ve had for 2 years and it hurts to wear (I’ve had Logitech g345 but it doesn’t sound well and I have to use something like voice meeter to have a viable use for them and they are hard to clean I can’t wait till them come to see if there’s a big difference between it and the bricks I’m using rn
Hello thanks for the the review. i was wanting a good headset for my xbox series x that was wired as i tend to use mouse and keyboard alot for shooters and having a headset plugged into the controller is annoying because the controller turns off after a certain amount of time due to inactivity. Just ordered them due to your video heres hoping they dont suck or they are going back lmao😅
Great video I am struggling with the footsteps in warzone. Could you send me the Astro command centre settings and in game settings. And lastly I have Dolby atmos app should I disable that ??
I actually use the default EQ curve on the mixamp (it's the first LED at the top) for Warzone. In-game, I turn music volume off, dialog volume to 20, voice chat volume to 300 (I have a hard time hearing people so had to turn this up). Most of the non-essential sounds I tend to turn off so I can hear the game and comms.
What’s this Astro app you’re talking about? I have a40 tr on my series x and I can’t really hear footsteps or anything like that. I would love to fine tweak things
If you go to the store on your xbox and search for astro, you should be able to find it and install it. Once installed, you'll have access to an EQ where you can fine-tune the curve.
I guess after 2 years of having Astro a40s with the equalizer they nuke its performance and want you to pay monthly for Dolby to get the performance back. Any suggestions?
@@BusyDadGaming after a bunch of reddit searching i found a fix by simply flipping the switch on the back of the eq from pc to xbox and back to pc while in the dolby app and it fixed it some how. idk
I've been using the default EQ on the mixamp. It seemed to do the best with hearing footsteps. The bass heavy profiles tended to muddy footsteps, which made it harder to hear.
Thanks for the feedback! The audio is balance to -1db, but what you're probably referring to is the difference in room sound (reverb) that is taking place between the two. I don't have a shotgun mic so it makes it difficult to get the same sound, but I'll see what I can do going forward. Thanks again!
@@BusyDadGaming I bought it for PS5, had to buy an HDMI adapter for £30 just to get it to work.. Then I could hear a buzzing static noise when the headset is connected to the Mix Amp TR, after hours of research online I connected it up to my PC and downloaded there command centre to reduce the side noise which completely got rid of the buzzing noise on my end.. Since connecting back up to the PS5 it sounds brilliant for me but my mates can now hear the buzzing noise when in party chat.. I have researched again to find different solutions and was led to believe if I bought a ground loop isolator there’s a 99% chance it would fix the issue, so for the sake of my friends ears I’ve spent another £15 only for the ground loop isolator to make it sound like Freddy Krueger scratching metal!!! This is not acceptable for a £300 set up, honestly avoid this like the plague its far more head ache than it is worth.. absolutely fuming!!

Totally agree. After having a good headset that offers really good surround sound, hard to go back to anything else.

I liked it sense it didn't require the controller and ties to your profile on the console. How's it been working for you?
