I have two Thane’s now. A large 72 red brass bell and a standard 37 yellow brass bell. Sometimes the large bell sounds a little too open and warm for what I want. But it’s also very dependent on the mouthpiece you use. You can brighten up the large bell with a shallow cup mouthpiece. What I love about the large bell is the more open blow and greater range of dynamics you can achieve. It’s a very expressive, almost soloist style horn. The standard yellow brass bell feels similar to a classic Bach as far as resistance and tone, but better than a Bach overall in my opinion. The standard bell feels like it plays a little easier. Phrasing feels easier on the standard bell because you use less air. If I had to choose a configuration again, I’d be very interested in a 37 red brass bell or a 72 lightweight brass bell. I think both of those configurations would get you more versatility out of the horn. Let me know if you’re interested in hearing a side by side video of both Thane trumpets.
Eric, u sound great! After having your Thane for a while now what are your thoughts?
