  • This video is about one of the core principles of color theory: Color Temperature. It's so important that it actually affects everything in the world around us. In this video I explain the Kelvin scale, color temperature and how it relates to art, specifically in creating depth in your paintings.
    Hope you enjoy it!

    ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this RUclips journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

Great video! I would love a video on Value! It is so important. It has been awhile since art class, but I do remember my teacher, a masterful landscape painter, telling us over and over that "color gets all the glory while value does all the work."

Great video! A practical real world example of the Kelvin scale in light is when you go to purchase LED bulbs. How many of us bought ones that turned out to be that harsh white blue when we wanted that natural soft warm light. Most LED bulb manufacturers include the Kelvin scale on the box to help you get the right desired light color.

Thank you Margot for such a great video! The information is quite valuable, but the amount of work you put into recording, writing and editing, just blew my mind!! Now, whenever I think about colour temperatures in my paintings, I’ll easily remember them thanks to this video. 💙💙💙 Oh, and yes, I would love a video on value, please and thank you ☺️☺️

I loved this video Margot. You have the best sense of humour and the way you present a topic is always fun to watch (never dull, drab, and dreary). I actually bought the Oil Painter's handbook after your 2024 book video, and mine arrived on Friday. I've only had a chance for a small flick so far, but it is beautiful - and totally satisfies my colour and pigment geekiness, so I loved seeing its cameo in this video!

Hullo Margot, I can see your flare for the dramatic is alive and well in this video, so much fun! I have taken Alain Picard's class on painting the painterly landscape and he shows how to create thumbnails getting us to block our values and simplify to get started! He is running his portrait course just now and I know everyone who is taking it is awash in value studies and creating a likeness and everything to create a painterly portrait! I did like your video and I hope more follow suit!

Margot, this was a great video on warm and cool colors. I love your videos! They are informative, different and refreshing! I would love to see a video on value, which is determined depending on the color we use, and confusing along with tone. This is what I struggle with, how to figure what value the color is and where it goes in the painting. Thanks!
