Thank you for sharing the Maria and Carlos story, I didn't really know a lot of trans people previous to my transition and I really struggled to find people whose experiences I could relate to in the "before" times. Maria wasn't the reason I ended up transitioning but catching her stream occasionally and seeing someone who was trans on the Internet whom I related to in someway definitely helped. I know only bits and pieces about her story and most of what I do know is how cruel people were to her. Hearing about Carlos and Maria's interaction really was wonderful to hear. It's made me aware of a side and perspective to Carlos I never knew existed. Really sad to hear about his behavior nowadays but my previous ignorance is probably the benefit of staying off social media as much as possible Thank you for sharing that story I'm not entirely sure why it provoked such an emotional reaction in me but finding out these moments of joy in her life really warms my heart. I don't really comment on things very much and I've never tended to interact with the community surrounding your stream/channel very much but it's really been wonderful to see how much happier and at peace you are these days especially after everything you went through at Eleague Much love to you and the work you produce
Great of you to help teach some peopel about such terrible times in the poor areas of the UK due to Thatcher. As a Welshman, I feel similarly to you in your inherent distrusts and supports. More people should know what happened, and how that has set us on a terrible path that continues to this day. If anyone is interested in British working class politics, of this time and the closer past, I would reccomend reading Britain in Fragments by Satnam Virdee and Brendan McGeever.
Your willingness to share your feelings about Carlos and your own experience are invaluable to a society in which most men avoid being with or talking about their feelings
Mate that sleeping to make sure theres enough milk to have the last bowl of cereal for dinner tomorrow night is a vibe....the poverty working class is a wild experience
Damn, the part about the coal miners really hit me. didn't know a lot about it being from far away from the UK, but to see the lives being uprooted really messes with your head. Thanks for sharing and for the content as always rich
For sure Portuguese people can muddle Spanish, Literally went to spain as a european portuguese without knowing a thing of spanish and was able to interact just fine with the occasional hiccup
Yup, as long as they speak in a slower fashion it's inteligable. But if I say something in portuguese, even something simple, they ask me to speak english
Thanks to however left the question that prompted Rich to show the miners clips. My parents moved to Australia in 1989 from the northeast. My father was born in Wales as his father was working in the mines there before moving back north in the early 70's. My father left school and apprenticed at the ICI plant in Middlesbrough at 15, he won apprentice of the year evry year and they sent to Sheffield University to become an engineer. Lead to my parents mobe to happier pastures, unfortunately my father passed away when I was young. Rich talking about his childhood always feels like im learning something special about the world my own father grew up in. Ill have to watch that documentary some time soon.
Really wonderful story of Maria and Carlos, I'd heard such great things over the years about him. Such a shame to see how he's gone, the "I have a Tyrone in my family" is far past the veil.
As a lad from Rotherham (in Yorkshire, by Sheffield for those who don't know), the entire male side of my family were miners. The impact that the miner's strike and Thatcher had on this community and most others in the North of England was horrifying and disastrous. The way the entire North was demonised led to millions of families suffering - naturally, anyone outside of the North doesn't get to hear these stories to the point where I've had Londoners not have a clue about it. Thanks to the question and to Rich for giving this horrible story a global view.
Serious question. What Premier league teams are not owned or sponsored by the middle east, china or some other place that doesn't regard human rights? When i was a kid i used to like Arsenal but i'm guessing the Emirates tag is a dead give away of "do not fuck with".
Was not prepared for the Nerds take. I went through a phase in my teenage years where I just binged those little grape/strawberry mini boxes. Might need to go find some for a taste of nostalgia.
I really appreciated the Carlos segment and thought you laid out your'e feelings really well and I nearly teared up, but then when you mentioned "Nerds" the tears began to flow, I guess I have some unexplored trauma's which came rushing back. My mum screaming at me about E195 and E109, she even had a little book which explained how each E number fucked your brain but I didnt care and would sneak Nerds into the house and wait till I eventually got rumbled and paid the price. God I want a box of fucking Nerds.
NGL. There are only two things better than Nerds Rich. The Nerds with the stretchy gummy rope thing. And friggin CHEWY SPREES. OMG Chewy Sprees are DOPE. Holy freaking crap I want some right now.
The Carlos story was really good. Made me have a bit of sympathy for him. In my opinion he’s too far gone at this point for me to want to have him in the space, even if deep down he doesn’t mean those things, he’s inspiring a generation of hateful men in esports. So regardless of how he really feels he’s doing a lot of damage. I have similar feelings on Semmler, When the cs reddit was on its hate train against him I loved him, but there was an episode of By The Numbers he did where he kept intentionally misgendering a trans pro. So far as to he would use the correct pronouns and then correct himself to the wrong ones. At that point I was fully out on him.
And I think it’s hard to believe that at this point he’s not a homophobe. The only other option would be that he’s just deeply deeply ill. It’s very hard for me to find compassion for someone saying those things. But you are a better man than me Richard
I too found the Carlos story genuinely moving and I see where you're coming from, but I still come to a different conclusion. Perhaps deep down Carlos is a good man, but right now he is doing a lot of damage to people like me, and he's doing it willingly and deliberately. It doesn't matter what he believes, it matters what he does. And I resent the idea that he has somehow been pushed into acting like a vile person because people previously called him out on milder bad behaviour. Carlos is a full adult and can and must fairly be held accountable for his words and actions that hurt vulnerable groups in society. That said, I don't think he (or almost anyone) is irredeemable - you were definitely right about that.

Your maturity, compassion, and wisdom when discussing the Carlos situation is inspirational Rich
I just wanted to write the same thing.

Can you edit the crowd signs these days in the wwe games too? Another avenue for the banter if so.
