Puts it into perspective when you consider that a strongman eats way more than the average person, has potentially significant expenses with physical therapy and all health related things (including the not so healthy parts of it). Some need to book two seats on planes and do extra expensive things because they're too big for how society is designed. Not the greatest hourly rate for the "average" world class athlete, there's a lot of time invested.

The other factor is strongman doesnt have nearly as much pay off as it does comoared to the inestments of food, wear and tear, needing special gear to train with, supportive gear, and peds. Ive seen strongmen like eddie saying if you can force feed yourself like 6000-10000 calories a day dont even bother

    • @prgnify
      @prgnify 2 месяца назад

Yes, when he compared to a bouncer - yes travelling and uncertainty are big factors like he rightfully stated, but as a bouncer you can invest as little as you want in gear/PEDs, blood-work, and etc. Aside from training, uniform, developing skills, stressful nights and all that, you are a big guy who wants to be big and can be as big as you want. Eddie for example knew that in order to win WSM he needed to get as big as he COULD - which is completely different and he probably spent more than 50k that year on food alone (corrected for inflation, as food this days is like, twice the price as in 2017).
Then of course you have people like Hooper, who didn't need to put on as much mass as Eddie did, so he eats like, 60% if not less, than 2017 Eddie.

Strongman has grown so much in just the 4 years I've followed it, and it continues to keep going in the right direction. That being said, I feel like the prize money needs to be doubled (at the very least) in order to get more competitors serious about the sport. I know that won't just magically happen. The sport needs to basically grow 3-4 times what is now to cover that kind of cost. But until that happens, the top 30 in the world won't be as good as they could be, IMHO 🤷‍♂️

While the 5th place strongman only earns as much as a bouncer, a bouncer doesn't receive sponsorship or any other perks of being a public athlete. You mentioned this at the beginning of your video, Mitch. I think it's fair to say that it isn't just about how good you are in Strongman, but how good you are in business and self promotion. Eddie Hall is a case in point. While he's an excellent strongman, there are better than him in terms of strongmen careers. Yet, he really knows how to market himself.

Thanks for the video Mitch. Very insightful. I look at strongman as a platform to make your brand. I believe that’s what Brian really showed everyone and one way he brought the sport up. Eddie is doing great with it. Thor, The Stoltmans have done a good job as well. And now you have definitely figured out the logic as well. Some like Evan need to really understand because they could be really marketable as well. Keep up the hard work.

Thor and Brian would be locks, second row. Anything from 6.6 to 7 ft play this position. Rugby union is far bigger than LEAGUE too. In union the top like you earn around 1 million euro a year excluding sponsorships, endorsements. So you would do well in this sport.

Are travel expenses covered for all the athletes at the big shows?
If it isn't that must add considerably to the cost of being a top strongman.

realistically, the best i see the sport evolving over the next few years is that i could see giants live expanding a little and giving the same opportunities that are currently available to 20ish guys to 30-40 guys. i dont think the big comps will change much. maybe rogue will stop hosting because they get too much negativity that it isnt worth it when they are paying so much out of pocket

One sport you didn't mention is track and field, in particular the throwing events. The Diamond League meets pay decent money and the new World Ultimate Champs will have a large prize pool. The Olympics now have prize money too, but only for first place. Track athletes in general make a majority of their money from sponsorships and contracts but throws aren't as glamorous so they probably don't make the same as the sport's superstars.

Thor not making DL record at Arnold because of no prize money was 100% correct!

Nice double strict press. Reckon you'll be one of the only ones to finish the overhead medley at SMOE (three logs and two axles I think)

Generally anyone out of top 5 need to work a job as well to pay the bills. Coaching, social media, and sponsors go a long way though.

Mahomes contract was 10 years 500 million, still insane but he is no only the 9th highest paid QB in the NFL.

Can you imagine what Brian Shaw would be paying his winner if he had 10 competitors rather than 16? Hooper made $100,016.xx this year for winning SMOE!

Professional rugby players can earn a good income if they on the top, club and national teams plus sponsorship. The biggest countries in terms of pay are british isles, France, new Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

I believe Brian will help push Strongman into the mainstream. If I was wealthy, I would dump a load of cash into Strongest Man on Earth so athletes could make some serious coin.

And they spend atleast $3k per month on food and another $1k on supplements and gear. So if you don't do youtube or come in first most the time you have no money

Do the strongmen get their expenses paid? (Food, travel, hotel etc.) when going to all these events or do they have to pay these themselves ?

Dont forget WSM also attracts the bigger sponsers than Arnold's, Rogue and Shaw. Sponsers dont know the other comps

US wages are inflated ... it's crazy, then again, life also costs so much more ...
I'm in France, and I'm pretty "poor", but not as poor as what the US considers "poor", as I'm making 22k a year and living happy, I don't lack for anything, my health is taken care of and I have disposable income. Granted, I am on the lower end of earning in France, very close to average actually. But I'm also not making an effort to earn more either, since I just don't need to.

The expense to build the strength needed vs. pay makes it even more of a grind for Strongman and Strongwomen so add when you add in the cost that 5th place guy is scrapping to make it

Are you sure those bar amounts were correct? I saw 4 plates per side and 2 10-pounders. That's 425, not counting the collars. The label said you were pressing 405. Maybe the bar was not 45?
