Hopefully this family wins all the lawsuits. Just a complete and total failure by both the police and the apartment complex. Those people should be ashamed
when you sign a lease to an apartment…. AN APARTMENT… it’s not really YOUR HOUSE/APARTMENT. there’s regulations and other stuff that go with it. there is some nasty ass people that will mess up and deteriorate the room. it belongs to the complex and its a business, meaning there has to be regular check-ins with the apartment assuring that it’s not going to shit. it’s business because you aren’t the only one to live in that apartment and won’t be the last. examples : animals will fuck up the apartment-dope heads-toxic smells-the list can go on. having a deadbolt or whatever on the door goes against the regulations due to them not being able to have access to do they’re job. you signed the contract giving up that sort of privacy however obviously like this situation, its a blowback but its the complex business’s fault for not doing a personal background check and feeling out the employees. its messed up but i just really wanted to get this off.
@@christiangarcia-ik5ybwhat the fuck are you on about
some sources say they settled out of court for the suit against the complex, but amount was undisclosed (take with pinch of salt). i've also seen (in an article from WESH) that the family hired a lawyer called michael haggard, who specialises in wrongful death suits and has previously won a case against an orlando amusement park worth $310mil - hopefully that suit is representative of his skill as a litigator and the Marcano family received a payment befitting the grief they have been caused.

hopefully miya's law can help negate some of these weird fucks. it blows my mind a maintenance person can just have a master key to get into any apartment.
edit: i know not all maintenance people are creeps, but it still seems like there should be some sorta 2fa to get in
i mean they have had them as old as time and this only happened now so no one cared till now, i wonder though how many times they stole things cause of that
They shouldn't have access to the apartment to begin with. If you call for maintenance you stay at your place when they arrive and open the door to them.
@@mahino420It didnt just happen now. Its happened probably hundreds, thousands, of times. This is just an incident that is publicized by modern media. This kind of shit happened all the time before CCTV and the internet.
it doesn't feel safe knowing that people can access your apartment at any time, specially when living alone. One time i left for a few hours and left my door unlocked with my keys inside, the maintenance went in and locked the door when they left. i got locked out of my apartment and it was late i had to call the emergency line and they still refused to come and open the door.
I used to live in an apartment like that. love being woken up in the early morning to maintenance guys walking in. /s, when I lived there it definitely freaked me out on a few times to hear my front door opening
the whole family is insanely intelligent and observant wtf
You'll be surprised how easy you can pick up on stuff when youre vigilant. If youre always suspicious youll notice ALOT
Maintenance should *NEVER* be given keys to apartments. If they need to fix something they should have to go through a process to get access to them... Not just given a fucking master key to whole building... Way too many creeps out there, and there is literally no backgrounds checks for most maintenance jobs. Scary stuff.
I work in the apartment property management industry in the city that this happened and there's actually a lot to this case.
Due to this event, all Florida property management companies went through a state-wide announcement about the abolishment of master keys and staff keyfobs.
All apartment property companies are required to use digital keys that log who opens each door and it is immediately termination if found with a master key on the property.
The fobs that do exist are locked in the leasing office and require a work order filed by the tenant to open. Maintenance are required to use the digital keys.

@@christiangarcia-ik5ybI mean, I think they’re point is that, that shouldn’t be a part of the lease. And if you’re paying rent on time, according to the lease, you shouldn’t have to just “give up that privacy”.
Well this was certainly depressing. No mystery no twist no nothing, the guy who everyone thinks is guilty did it, police failed at their job in so many ways, no justice for the victim, etc. The only small part of relief for the family I guess might be in how straightforward the case was. Even though he never stood trial they can pretty reasonably determine what his motive was and that it's very likely even if the police took it as seriously as they did from the start the outcome wouldn't have changed for what happened to her. It sucks that they were so slow that he had time to realize how fucked he was and take the cowards way out, but those text messages really explain a lot. Not speaking from personal experience, but i'd assume knowing is probably better than being left to sit and wonder why someone did something like that. Sometimes people are just truly fucked up in the head.
bro should've at least filmed a goodbye video or something. that wouldve brought just a little bit of satisfaction. running away & alt+f4-ing... wut a coward.
How can someone just have the key to your place like that? I wouldn’t pay rent if that was going on whatsoever…
I'm pretty sure that's how most rentals work.
Fr. It's fucking unacceptable
@@souleymaneadellah1176 I'm in Europe and living in an appartment complex I'll tell you how it works here... The landlord provides the maintenance, he sets up the appointment with maintenance at a time where you're home so you discuss it with the landlord, this way maintenance don't have key to your appartment and you just have to open door for him. Crazy how simple the solution is right

the fact that this happened at my school when I went there IS CRAZY eerie😔😔prayers to her family 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I remember a while back seeing one of Miya’s friend post about her TikTok when this first happened… so sad.
I've never understood the idea of waiting for someone who's missing to come back for 48 hours. If the family and the closest people to them is certain something isn't right, it should be taken seriously a lot sooner. I'd rather find someone alive and fine OR find them before a tragedy rather than finding them before a tragedy or already dead. the system is built to give people time to die and it's crazy. Even if it's a waste of resources to look for someone who's safe and fine, that's a better outcome than finding them too late and deceased
ugh the fact that she couldn't be saved and she perished for something so dumb is just terrible

Miya's family seem so observant and smart.
So they had a great opportunity to do a proper warranted search and they let the family do it? AND didn't even record it. these cops laziness man
sanest take at 3:57 "you have to be a salesman in order to find out if your daughter has been killed"
My dad taught me this once where I lost something and I was like ill search later. He was like: NO. If you lose something you look right away the moment you realize it's gone. The likelyhood of finding what you lost just goes down if you wait a day. Sobering to know if people go missing we gotta wait for the most important time there is in any search to pass. RIGHT NOW.
This was a big case that had everybody talking and asking questions here in Orlando. I felt so sad when her face popped up in this video. I didnt know the video was gonna cover her story. RIP Miya!
His eyes near popping out his face, really showing how scared and guilty he is.. he knows what he did
People need to understand if someone isn't interested.. you can't force them to be. Just move on and find someone else, there's plenty of fish in the sea.
what a precious soul and the fact that the cops treat the family like this shit so sad fr man
This is kind of a lesson on just blocking someone if they're annoying you or something cuz talking to them is just going to give them this idea that you owe them something
Blocking someone is also dangerous. A psycho like this will definitely be upset. He works with her and has keys to her apartment as a maintenance guy she can’t escape him irl. There is really no “correct” script to follow when it comes to dealing with the mentally unstable
@@onnuke I know right, when you speak to mental people online you can just block them and they are gone. But when they live near you and know you IRL, that is terrifying, what's the way out of it?
Blocking someone is the way to go if it's someone you only know online, but she knew him irl and he worked in her apartment building with keys to her place. Blocking him would just make him angrier. I don't think there's any way Miya could've escaped this guy, he was twisted.
I have to say it's a massive W from the family to act so quickly and investigate this themselves. Without them she might never have got justice or figured out who the perp was. May she RIP
Id love to see more citizen/private investigations like this.

NA COPS NOT EVEN LOOKING FOR MURDERERS NOW
last time he reacted to a video like this and it was a woman instead, a lot of comments were talking about how manipulative and cruel women are
haven't seen anything like that directed at men here...
Men do that because everyone knows how bad men are, how unethical and unempathetic they tend to be. Men know this deep inside themselves, and they know how women tend to be the complete opposite typically. So any chance they get to call out that "women can be just as bad" as them, they'll take it so that they feel a little bit better inside. Hopefully that explains why you'll never see men saying that about men.
chat believes normal people think only men can be that way. they only mention it for women because they think they're revealing and expressing some esoteric arcane legendary knowledge that normies could never even begin to fathom and that they're part of the small minority that knows the ugly truth of the world.
Because society already expects it from men, but not from women. That's why they point it out when a woman does it. Look up the "women are wonderful" effect. Its a real issue.
@@syhr657You give society too much credit.
When someone is renting an apartment or building they should be given complete control over who is allowed to enter the building during the time of their lease like you would when owning a house. When someone is renting it should be considered their property (with obvious restrictions to major modifications) until the lease is over
That's just factually incorrect, owning is not the same as renting, therefore you aren't entitled to all of the same privileges. It's that simple.
@@kidn00b1 you willfully missed the point NOONE should have the ability to come inside the place your supposed to feel the most safe without your permission.

You miss the part where this dude is clearly lying and making shit up about maintenance protocol. However, that means nothing for "no one ever is allowed in my apartment because I say so."

This sort of thing will only multiply in the future. That's what you get in a society obsessed with appearances : the guy is FAR from ugly and that's why police wasn't taking it seriously. Everybody associates good looks with goodness, and bad looks with evil. The only exception is Japan because of the strict social order and conformity and thourough eductation. Come on, you know that's true ; it's the only thing that matters nowadays ... If the dude was ugly as sin he would have been arrested on the spot and the whole case would have been in the bag. XQC is wrong on one detail, the "not missing for a certain amount of time" doesn't matter for a missing persons report. 48 hours, 24 hours, it doesn't matter. This is an old myth/trope because it used to be the common practice but this arbitrary rule no longer applies. And good for that!

The number of “missing persons” cases that get reported to the police are insanely high. Most of them are just someone got drunk, their phone died and they slept at someone else’s house. Can’t fault the cops for not diving into every case immediately.
