The mining of the minerals required to build the batteries is absolutely less than the carbon emissions of internal combustion engines. Cars generally are problematic environmentally, and that includes electric cars, but they absolutely are better, especially as relevant to CO2. If you’re concerned about labor conditions in the Congo or wherever that’s fine, but the solution to that is to improve labor conditions, not to pivot back to fossil fuels. Also, the ozone has fuck all to do with co2 emissions, unless you ride a 1970s refrigerator to work, what you drive has no effect on that. Christ I don’t miss working with the paint chip eaters in the military…
