I have a Dietz Jupiter, a D-Lite, 2 Kirkmans and a Feuerhand. I like this Monarch best. I know it appears more odor-free with the same scent-less lamp oil. I truly don't notice the difference in candlepower and I find the overall design has a peculiar elegance of its own.
The Dietz Monarch is Very nice lantern and a pair of them going in a living room at night or during a power failure puts a neat glow into the room without the glare of a larger lantern.
Would these lamps be better for windy conditions ? I discovered many years ago that the standard cold blast (Dietz Junior clone) was actually very vulnerable in quite modest wind. Why they are called hurricane lamps in many parts of the world is very puzzling !
that's a tough question to answer, is it a genuine Dietz? a Chinese counterfeit? it the flame is getting bothered by outside wind, then maybe there's a problem with air access to the burner itself, maybe they made too many air holes on the bottom, or something. cause yeah, they shouldn't be bothered by mild winds. i'd have a closer look at it and cross reference the design of the parts.
its very hard to tell, from the design of the air flow system, it circulates the old air around more, so less fumes build out, i've had it here on my desk right by me but i still had to crack my door and window to keep an air flow going, it will stink up a bedroom after a while, but so will most other flat wick oil lamps. one thing i did notice though, not a very strong flame cause of that old air flow system, gotta keep it smaller than cold blast of the same wick size. but still looks cool :P
None get a cold blast you will be much happier. If you end up collecting lanterns eventually you get one to show people the diffrence hot blast are very low flame. Ever heard expression " it's better than nothing" that describes a hot blast lantern, with that said if you buy them for say ambiance in your patio they are very good for that.
Great Video 👍 enjoyed 🇺🇸
damn, i made this 5 years ago??? time flys!
And I’ve only just discovered this video and your channel. Many thanks, regards Broadlander

I love keeping them around for outages. We have one that stays on the coffee table that I light a few times a week. They just have such a nice light
Thank the Lord for a man who knows how to trim the wick for an oil type lantern or lamp.
Can’t be that many of us out there anymore lol
beautiful lamp
I like how they recycle 75% of the exhaust but I wish they had a larger base for more fuel.
Great video. Thanks
it's so good moovie.thanks
I always trim with the wick in the lantern so I can best match the curve of burner ...

I don't think I've ever seen a review of a hot blast lantern before. Does that design have any advantages over the, more common, cold blast type?

From what I understand it has two benefits over cold blast. One it is more fuel efficient and two it produces less heat at the cost of candle power.
Hot blast lanterns are less affective than cold blast becouse they reuse air instead of get new air
Would this rum in Diesel?
YT doesn't like your vid, all i get is spining and spinning circle. Sue the pants (or skirts) off of him/her/it/whatever.
