So informative.. Thank you for creating the film
We can only thank you, for not having some god awful house or trance track going all the way through the video Ahhhhhh bliss
I'm from the US and first heard you talk on the Korda podcast. You've since become one of my favorite anglers to listen to, Carp or otherwise. I really appreciate you making this channel, what a wealth of knowledge.
It's like listening to heaven... John I carnt believe how nice it is to listen to you talk about bait and fishing... Thank you... I've watched all your videos and I've message you before when you first started uploading and I've stayed with you from the start... I am not lucky to have a job at the moment but hopefully something will change and I'll buy some bits from you ie base mix and flavours.. I've got a bait tables and bait gun to start up.. I've done a few but nothing I am happy with... The mix never bonds right.. I've only just started fishing 10 months ago... Anyway its great what your doing and the point your getting out there... Thanks John.. Nice to know the camera man is your loving son... Hi William... Your dad is very cool and you are a very lucky person to have him... Take care both of you and stay safe
Just brilliant again ; 30 minutes of bait making wisdom . Loved the Weetabix and Digestives analogy .
and right there ... one of the magical things about carp fishing making ,tasting and catching on your own bait ..thank john youve just taken me back to the 90s sound is spot on by the way
Could you spot the new microphone :) glad you liked it
John when it comes to baits, flavours and base mixes you are the Master Chef! Yet another interesting and well presented video.
Thanks Rooster!
Wonderful viewing John. Thank very much for taking the time.
Takes me right back to when I made all my own bait over the last 40 years.
I started again with my youngest daughter last summer. Her scopex plum creation smelt and tasted horrendous, but it caught her a good number of bream... which she seemed more than happy with. The joy of concocting your own bait lives on.
Thank you.
Love these little videos! As a novice bait maker in America and access to limited supplies its really nice to see one of the greats who's made bait for years and years come out and actually kinda go through what's important in a bait and explain the how's and why's and make the bait with you. And I do share some of your ethics towards the fish we so love as far as things we feed them, things we shouldn't and how to properly go about it. I can't wait to see more. 👍👍
I can only mirror the exceptional comments already posted. Superb John, please keep up these brilliant little informative clips!!!!
You are the man when it comes to baits John.
Another great video John, have had my mind opened to make my own baits. Keep the knowledge coming 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great video John much love from Canada
Fantastic Mr Baker 👍looking forward to more . Any chance of a ticket for your lake 😉😂👍
Much respect responding to my email at the weekend, now I’m watching this super video, many thanks John
Year’s of knowledge there helping us anglers.. WATCH LISTEN AND LEARN
John, firstly May I say thank you for your help.
Can I say that all that you say makes so munch sense, and at 63 I wish I had really got into the bait making.
As you know we discussed your cheese and pineapple mix, well I would never have mixed that combo, but ordered the flavours and can’t wait to see where
This leads me.
Keep the videos coming brilliant.
What a touch the new J B Apron ha really looking forward to this year you ooze confidence in your bait and it rubs off on all of us because of your knowledgeable videos top marks roll on the peach 🍑
Another great video would love to see how you go about making wafter hookbaits to compliment these boilies 👍
Many thanks John.Precise, straight forward and common sense.Look forward to some barbel baits and flavours too,if possible.
Hi Steve, thanks for the comment! With the rivers all flooded as they are im going to wait until the new season until doing barbel clips, stay tunes, cheers john.
Great video john 👍 and I bet there's not many out there who will eat there own bait with confidence
Loving these videos John. You’re really getting me into the idea of rolling my own stuff again.
Go for it!
Great instruction, enthusiastic delivery and contest easily digested. (No pun intended). Thanks John
Extremely interesting. I swear I could almost smell it! Love your enthusiasm. Look forward to the next instalment.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks again for another excellent knowledgable video John, I have shared your channel with a group of my angling friends. I have a question........ Why do you say some flavours work better in the winter and others in the summer, what difference would they make to a carp at different temperatures and why?
Excellent watch again John spot on!
Cheers, JB
Another great video John, I feel there’s not enough in depth bait videos out there. Some talk the talk but haven’t got the facts to back it up. Enjoyable content
More to come!
@@johnbakerbaits9108 I look forward to them John, all the best
Another great video keep them coming. Great knowledge and experience all can follow.
Great video and a reminder as to why i shouldn't spend so much time making perfectly shaped freebies chops it is going forward!
Hi John I make my own bait ,and I do taste my bait to see how the flavour comes through,my wife thinks aim mad .enjoying the content in your videos 👍
She just doesn't understand! Thanks for watching - JB
Brilliant video
Brilliant John , great information and seeing how you do it , is inspiring, thank you
Great video and lots of interesting information.
Hi John. Good video thanks. When I do chops I tend to boil the sausages whole and then chop them afterwards. That way you get a sealed part and an unsealed more paste like centre to the bait which leaks off attractors better.
Thank you John loving it.
Glad to hear it!
Fantastic John, thanks for the honest content, looking forward to the next one.
First u tell people about paste for around your hookbaits now boilie pellet chops! Trying to think of another 1 of my edges your going to give away lol!! Great vid and series!
Wise words john great video as always
Thanks for listening
Absolutely superb yet again John.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@johnbakerbaits9108 could you just wrap the sausages in cling film John and boil them that way to avoid leakage
Another super helpful video 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Great info as always
I really enjoyed it. Great video.
great as all ways john . love the smaller sized flavors.
Great to hear, which ones did you get?
@@johnbakerbaits9108 i got the plum & caramel banana .and can't wait to try them soon .
Another brilliant video don’t really want to share it’s that good
Great video mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Loving it John I’m finding your vids interesting I love making my own bait for my carp fishing . Thank you. Del
Good to hear! Best of luck, john
Fab info once again John thanks 👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching!
great i just bought some thanks :)
Excellent news, hope you like it!
Hi JB,
Thank you for the videos, im loving the tutorials/content. I'm very new to making bait however im a very long time carp angler. Your knowledge is truly inspiring to which I constantly want to learn more.
Once you've boiled the baits, what's the next process I.e how long do you air dry them before freezing or would you prefer them to go straight into the pond.
Kind regards
I’ve always had a interest in bait and no one goes into as much detailed truth as you. I missed out on the first wave of your tester bottles I won’t on the next. Please keep up with your V-Logs there Great.
Great vid John - I made some hookbaits recently and I think I did something wrong, they look great smelt great but the inner was still like a paste which I can’t think is right. I didn’t wrap my paste in clingfilm for a little before hand rolling ? Mistake ? Did I cook them enough or was water not boiling enough I left to dry for at least 10 hrs before putting some in the fridge and some in the freezer. Your throughs would be great. Also the chops do you leave them to dry before putting in the freezer. Thank you and regards Keven
You said you'd only use these as free offerings. Is there any reason not to use them as hook bait? Thanks in advance.
John - what size eggs do you base flavour dosage on? Medium i presume?
Liked and shared.
Thanks
Hi John, great video as always. I was surprised you use MPG as your carrier as this usually leaves a bitter taste. Have you tried Medium chain Triglycerides? As I'm keen to produce my own flavours and thought MCT would be a better carrier as its fairly plain on the pallet.
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Most top quality flavours are made on MPG and require such a low dose that none of the MPG taste comes through into the bait. Not only do most bait companies use poor quality flavours, which already has a high MPG content, but they also further dilute them with yet more MPG in order to make more profit. This is not supposition, its a FACT. You will note that my recommended dose levels are extremely low, this also means that I tend to avoid using extra sweeteners or enhancers as these are also not necessary when using such a low dose rate. Much of what I speak about on RUclips or indeed in this reply has not previously been articulated. I will leave everyone to draw their own conclusions as to the validity and reasoning of my comments.
I can't speak for MCT as these are not products that I have ever seen in any flavour recipe.
Hope that helps, tight lines - John
@@johnbakerbaits9108 Thank you for taking the time to reply. I work in a flavours department that produces flavours for chocolate an drinks amongst other. The chocolate flavours are mainly MPG based. Which I had been using when producing baits. But I was guilty of using higher doses, thinking more is better. An then after not catching I blamed the MPG. So I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Lesson learnt 😃👍
Just out if interest have you ever tried using cocoa butter in your products? I've recently produced some blilies with a sweet maple flavour an they smell amazing
brillent
Brilliant! 👍♥️
Hello John. Nice video. I can't understand 4.44 ....oil? gr
As egg once boiled limits the leakage of flavour and is hard for the fish to digest ,can you make boilies without egg?
Had no idea you ran a fishery john
Hi John, thanks for your recent assistance. You touched on colourants in the video .... If you had to use one tho. Do you believe it is possible to counteract the bitterness, without over flavouring ? Thanks
Yes it is possible
Great film John. Whilst I agree with you on tasting baits, I'm not a huge fan of the ala salar in my own mouth!
Haha! I'll let you off on that one
@@johnbakerbaits9108 tasting a fishmeal bait its going to taste odd to us so what are you looking for
Sorry if stupid
How many 15mm boilies would you expect to get for 1k of basemix
Fantastic video again, excellent information as usual. Just out of interest, when is the JB bait apron appearing on your website? 😂 I too like tasting the boilies i make, always have done. Might draw the line at bio shellfish and crab though!
Apron coming soon, watch this space haha! I don't blame you there, that combination is a proper wife repellent
The taste of bait is what Im really interested in!
Btw, do you ship to EU?
yes we ship to the EU! Though there are a few restrictions at the moment, please email at john@johnbakerbaits.co.uk if you'd like to make an order, thanks!
I've not seen none of these commercial companies eating their boilies 😂
Hi Jon another fantastic video and highly informative. I just wondered if you had ever looked at Goo type hook bait additives and their effectiveness. I’m assuming they are very much in the high attract category of bait enhancements. According to marketing they are made with natural ingredients which I’m not sure about but I’ve found them to be irritants giving me headaches, making my eyes hurt and affecting my breathing when so much as opening a bottle. If they aren’t good for me... I question if they are great for carp. Having tried them without much success I’ve gone back to simple things like salmon oil as dips and had better results. I’d very much welcome your thoughts on this type of enhancement
Hi there, I think you've answered you own question, since we all know that natural additives are best. Its very easy to make these types of synthetic attractants but the real question is, would the manufacturers of these products put it on their cornflakes!? As you can see I'm happy to eat my own baits, with no side effects (even ala salar!).
Magic
I know this sounds daft, and I'm sure you used your cooking equipment just for ease of filming etc.
But could we get away using smaller pans on an electric hob?
We dont have gas in our property John.
Yes absolutely, but only if you're doing a few baits at a time, make sure its boiling as ferociously as possible
Regarding taste isn't is possible that you are anthropomorphising? Carp eat all sorts of invertebrates and other foul tasting things ( their own and other animals feces for example!) I'm not sure how relevant what a bait tastes like is to us, other than for confidence reasons of course.
I agree, if it increases your confidence then great! The taste to humans is simply a good benchmark for the acceptability of the bait we use. Which has stood me and thousands of other anglers in good stead for 50 years. Thanks, John
Interestingly about halibut pellet my local fishery around 15-17 years ago had a massive issue with the oxygen levels due to a person putting 15kg of hard shelf life boilies into the lake bed with pellet causing the levels of oxygen to become low and me and my friend pulling out 3 27lb mirror card dead and trio 32lb mirror that was buried. we put most of the fish in the match lake hence why now the fish are 30lb + we did save man carp but many died due to this person.
hi TOPPEX Flavour ?????????? what???????
Don't touch that John it's HOT 🤪🤣
Carp just want carbs and protein, we just want baits that smell good to us and look pretty
