    Partial transcript:
The Hunting Ground has been praised by critics, screened at the White House for staff and legislators, and nominated by the Producers’ Guild of America for “best documentary film.” But here’s the problem: the Hunting Ground is not a “documentary”-it is an agenda-driven propaganda film, created by activists. Critics have pointed to so many faults, it’s impossible to cover them all. But here is a brief overview. First, the film uses flawed statistics. It repeats over and over the massively discredited claim that 20% of female students will be sexually assaulted during their time at college. This estimate is based on non-representative surveys of college students that use vaguely worded questions. According to the Bureau of Justice statistics, the correct number is not one in 5, but more like 1 in 53. That is still far too many, but apparently not enough to sustain the Hunting Ground thesis. And here’s another fact the filmmakers left out: women who are not enrolled in college are far more likely to be victims of sexual assault than college women. We also learn from the film that less than eight percent of college men commit more than 90% of the sexual assaults. This comes from David Lisak’s research on repeat offenders, which had long been accepted uncritically in anti-rape circles. But recently, Lisak’s serial predator theory has been questioned by both academic researchers and investigative journalists. His study that originated this claim surveyed men who may not have even been college students, and the researchers didn’t ask about crimes committed on campus. The theory has never been corroborated or replicated by other studies. Yet Lisak’s research is presented as settled science in the Hunting Ground, and Lisak himself takes center stage, warning America about the scourge of hardened, serial predators lurking at frat parties across the country. But the film’s most egregious fault is not its careless use of social science research, but its reckless disregard for the truth when it comes to accusations of rape. The film showcases several disturbing testimonials from alleged victims of sexual assault. But many of the testimonials central to the film have collapsed under scrutiny. The filmmakers appear to have done no fact-checking. For an in-depth look at the glaring omissions and inaccuracies in the Hunting Ground’s portrayal of specific sexual assault claims, see Emily Yoffe’s detailed investigation of the accusations against Harvard Law School student Brandon Winston in Slate and Stuart Taylor’s take on Florida State’s Jameis Winston in National Review Online. The film’s portrayal of the Harvard Law School was case is so unfair and misleading that 19 Harvard Law professors wrote and signed a statement publicly denouncing the film and defending the accused student, Brandon Winston who, in their words, “was subjected to a long, harmful ordeal for no good reason.” Winston’s case had been extensively investigated and he had ultimately been deemed not responsible by the Harvard Law School Faculty, the grand jury who refused to indict him on the serious sexual charges against him, and a jury trial (who only found him guilty of a lesser charge of a “nonsexual nature”). According to the Harvard Law professors, “This purported documentary provides a seriously false picture both of the general sexual assault phenomenon at universities and of our student.” How did the filmmakers respond to the Harvard Law School professors’ critique? By accusing them of “victim blaming” and implying that their letter could be a Title IX violation-it creates a “hostile environment” for victims.

+MinerVerse I hardly believe anything that the media says about specific people anymore. I always go straight to the source now and listen to them directly and they're always so much more moderate than they're made out to be which just pisses me off because I know that the vast majority of people will take the media's word.

***** Sadly I agree. The group oneinthree in Australia used the same government statistics to point out that conclusively one in three victims of domestic violence were men. I've heard these quoted dismissively as "men's rights statistics" in the media. What is used instead is that 90% of domestic violence is male against female based on reporting to police. Nobody with an enquiring mind has asked ,why do we only used self reporting surveys rather than police statistics for violence against women because of the large number of women who do not report their crime, yet when it comes to men we do not? Men that we allege suffer more from health issues because they don't take themselves to the doctor, men we allege commit more suicide because they don't seek help? Yet when it comes to domestic violence we use the figures of police reports rather than self reporting surveys because we assume that men not reporting domestic abuse to police wouldn't skew the numbers? This seems so obvious an issue to me yet the feminist media has the numbers it wants and nobody calls them on it.

+Alex Smith I am hoping that the Red Pill will help in this regard. This movie has not been released yet but it at least gives both sides of the argument and it was created by a woman who calls herself feminist, Cassie Jaye (sp?). It got funded by Kickstarter where no one but her has creative control

+Alex Smith Don't forget the worst of it all, domestic violence (at least in Spain, where I live) is a minor concern, it has been shrinking and shrinking as time goes by, still every single feminist assemble every year to protest it and fight it yet they will never ever recognize men are psychologically abused by their wives on a daily basis, when you start noticing it you can even see it in the streets, they insult them, laugh at them and basically belittle them every time they can. Psychologically abussive women abuse their kids too, and that's simply too painful to watch because you know that will lead to mental illnesses...

How can you not be afraid, what awaits you on a campus, when you see stuff like this? I'm not even from the US, but from Europe, but this shit scares me more then the threat from the middle east... What can I say. Influential stuff like this will bring down western society if we don't start doing something against lies like this.

Don't attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity. There's no agenda to dumb us down. It's the same old overblown fears that have claimed the minds of humanity since we first struck two rocks together, and some ancient cave person declared that fire would be the end of the tribe.
People are afraid, and will often over-react to threats that have little basis in fact. Given that fighting threats is moral, those who say that there isn't actually a problem must be lazy, immoral, or actively plotting against them.
These people aren't the first, and they won't be the last. And they're not stupid. Nobody can know everything about the world. And in the dark recesses of our ignorance, horrible threats of all kinds can await. When we strike at them, sometimes we will find there really was a tiger in the bushes. But other times, we find ourselves waging a war against an enemy that, thanks to not existing, will never be defeated.

Aren't most raped victims impoverished and not necessarily in college? What is the focus on pretty college students for them? They never cover elderly victims either. It's like if you are under a certain income level, class, education level, have a certain look, and are in college, then you can be a victim with a bunch of coverage. If you happen to be poor, underclassed, underaged, or overaged etc, and not pretty, then they ignore you. I just love how people are invisible, especially poor people and the ugly. Way to go activists!

This sort of activity really makes me wonder if there is a concerted effort to scare women away from higher education. I can take the damage done to the social sciences (no joke, they actually prepare you for that in your first year as a social science major) but what strikes me is the potentially chilling effect on women's education in the united states.
If this sort of thing is "feminism" its clearly been infiltrated.

Village panchayats order revenge rape of sisters or mothers of rapists to "teach them a lesson". There is a video on RUclips called Rape Culture of Haryana I think. im not disagreeing with your rebuttal, but i think you missed the point of the entire film. the focus was on the treatment of victims by the universities, not the actual cases. which i assume the film was accurate about since you have no counter argument for the stats on proper punishments dealt out for specific numbers of reported assaults. you also failed to comment on athletes being allowed to finish competition for the season before being punished, if at all. which is pretty much just common knowledge at this point, only denied by fans. also, i didnt catch any debunking of the less than eight percent are false reports, as are all crime reports. there shouldnt be a double standard when it comes to presenting knowledge. if youre gonna point out all the wrong how about giving praise where its deserved as well?

If you were questioning a victim you would want to be quite in-depth. I would ask questions like did you fight back? Why/why not? But it would be part of a whole list of questions to get as much info about the event as possible. Yet many of the victims mentioned questions similar to this like it was the only thing they asked and some sort of insult or victim blaming. If you couldn't fight back because you were drugged this would be important info for the interviewer to find out. Sometimes you may have to ask questions to get the complete story.

One thing I noticed in the response to the professors' letter was a lot of finger pointing for what the professors "failed" to mention (quotes intentional). Going by that logic, I'd say the filmmakers "failed" to mention a lot of things as well so... yeah, maybe a bit hypocritical. Pointing out what wasn't mentioned, unless it's something like how flubbed the statistics are, doesn't negate what *was* mentioned. Also, while we're talking about leaving stuff out, I'd say in the interest of fairness and justice, it's generally, if not always best to get as many sides of the story as possible. Trying to exclude a viewpoint just because they point fingers at what you got wrong? Yeah...
Also, 'to avoid uncomfortable questions'?! Ugh... You're going to baby them now?

  • @GeracaoCapoieraGre

Oh yeah and "why is the documentary so one-sided"? Because obviously the perpetrators either bluntly deny the accusations or when there is dna evidence say that it was in fact consensual. They are already actively defended by the universties, the fraternities, fellow students, fraternity lawyers and judges who prefer to give them the benefit of innocent until proven guilty which amounts to the victims being considered liars until proven otherwise. SO this documentary openly admits to being the voices of the victims. Thanks factual feminist for being neither factual nor feminist.

+WarBaby2 If Hillary gets elected it will get worse. Far worse. It will absolutely destroy america - especially higher education. More and more indoctrination by marxists. They achieved this via "The March through the Institutions". This is a german thing, coming out of the "Frankfurt School", that led to the student protests in Germany in 1968. And they succeeded. Most professors and politicians and activists are now leftist liberals.

The work being done here is important and I'm glad it's happening. However, I've begun to notice a disturbing trend beginning to emerge within these internet circles in which it is becoming permissible to deny that women in our society face any gender-related difficulties at all. As Dr. Sommers loves to tell us, gender relations are complicated, with both benefit and obligation for everyone.
I'd love to also see some videos that address legitimate, Western feminist concerns. Sure, there's nothing here as alarming as other places in the world, and I don't expect a thesis on the Patriarchy, but there are injustices and hardships that disproportionately affect women. I think that addressing some of those concerns would help to legitimize you with the saferoom feminists you're trying to get through to. In addition, I think it would help to curb some of the more zealous MRAs that are two hairs from declaring the existence of an oppressive Matriarchy.

So I hear time and again about the rape problem in US colleges and I wonder - how does that work?
Do women get raped while on campus, between lectures, in the library or whatever? Or does this include going to some kind of parties, get drunk and mingle with other drunk people? Because if it's the latter, I'd say it's not the college that's the decisive part of the problem, it's the lifestyle of the students.

The best way to protect your daughters from the "hunting ground" is to not send them there. Instead of helping them incur debt they will never be able to pay off and putting them in an environment where they will inevitably be attacked by the mythical ravaging hordes of sexual predators who prowl these spaces, kick them out of your homes and let them support themselves. They will quickly figure out the value of nice, older, established men who will protect and provision them, and you will be far more likely to have grandchildren and happily married daughters.

1:25 "less than 8% of men commit [the majority] of sexual assaults."
I thought this was generally accepted as one of the reasons against mandatory consent training courses. Teaching ALL men not to rape when 90+% of men don't is really insulting. Whether the few men do know it's wrong or not, they will likely continue regardless. I think this stat was mentioned in an earlier Factual Feminist at 5-6%

I take issue with this train of thought against the movie Hunting Ground. The trailer for this movie as well as this video are assigned content regarding rape culture in College fraturnities in my sociology class, and in the interest of full disclosure I myself have not watched the film yet. However, there is a flaw in the logic of this video which must be pointed out. While I am willing to accept the critiques offered against the movie regarding poor statistics, the argument offered at 3:00 is unreasonable logic in the context of the movie. The speaker states that the information used in testimony regarding rape accusations were so misleading that 19 acclaimed harvard professors signed a statement declaring the assertions made against Brandon Winston (the accused rapist) were harshly over exaggerated and cruel. This statement (made by the video, not by the professors) intended to discount the film was poorly conceived and ignorant of the intention of the film. As is explained in the trailer, one of the key points of the movie is to shed light on the fact that high end schools are purposefully trying to silence the voices of rape victims in the interest of public image. If the true nature of rape culture on Ivy League campuses were to become known - and assuming that the reality is as bad as suggested - then the college would suffer dramatically, in the way of funding, applicants, image, and more.
Whether the statistics of the film are exaggerated or not, how is it valid reasoning to suggest that a film - focused on how a given college is trying to silence rape accusations for its own interests - is rubbish because the given school has made a statement trying to silence their rape accusations? That is like saying that coca cola isn't trying to silence rumors that there is coke in their product because they released a statement trying to silence rumors that there is coke in their product. Whether it is correct or not, the logic is faulty

These groups have helpfully marginalized themselves, 78% of women in America do not consider themselves a part of this hate movement that is both misandric and misogynous, I'm actually glad though, because I would have made different choices in the past in terms of who I am friends with or have dated had i realized the simple questions I can ask when i first meet people to decide whether or not to have anything to do with someone,, stand up for true gender equality and become an mra, many woman are now, and if you meet a 19 year old on campus quoting these statistics, RUN!! pretend they aren't there, ignore them, they will eventually go away and not need safe spaces and trigger warnings if people ignore them. They want attention, This is group narcissism, Victim power, and its raising a lot of money, More importantly, it is not safe for men to be around them, as a new female friend said the other day they are crazy, Hillary Clinton said all rape accusers should be believed, in other words, with regards to rape, men should have due process denied. Then they pull out their other false statistics that false accusations are rare, i even heard a radfem say woman don't lie. Wow, if that's not delusional and sexist i don't know what is.
Don't objectify a woman sexually or yourself financially by treating her as if her beauty alone entitles her to a free drink, (Would you do that for a male new friend as a heterosexual?), Treat woman the same, most of them actually appreciate that, this is the flip-side to a truly better relation of the sexes in the future. This is why many woman become so entitled, stop giving preferential treatment to a woman because she dresses a certain way or is shaped or born looking a certain way. Engage them intellectually, and demand character, if men had been given all the advantages of a beautiful woman, they would be the same way, and while we are on the topic, sounds like i'm talking about matriarchy right, of course what I am saying does not usually apply to woman who are not super beautiful with model bodys, and I suspect this is the woman who become radical feminists. Here is where we must bond as a society, men need to empathize with this for woman, Woman need to empathize that the idea of patriarchy is a dangerous prejudice that inaccurately characterizes all men by a very small .1% at the top, by not looking at class, yes there are Bill Gates and Lloyd blankfeins (and Christy Waltons), but for every one of those there are far more garbage men and homeless men who most certainly do not have advantages / systematic power advantages over woman.
Feminism has failed to address men reinforcing their own disposability. Demand if we are going to keep having wars to shame people who talk about woman and children casualties as tragic, as if male casualties are irrelevant. Do what Sweden just did and make mandatory registration for woman at 18 as well.
Male privilege is the right to not be seen, the right to pay for a family you are denied any relationship with, the right to work a horrible dangerous job like being a roofer, a garbage man, and then have our kids go to institutions of higher learning to learn about a universally discredited wage gap Female dominated positions, safe and secure and full of positive affirmation say they are not being paid the same wage. of course not, did you get toxic chemicals in your eye this week, get jabbed with a sharpie container full of needles, or fall off a roof, of course not, that's why you get paid less. Let's start seeing some romance novels about the princess and the garbage man, or the fairy princess and the fireman live happily ever after, or my favorite the beautiful fairy maiden and the conciincious objector, and then we'll know we have really started to actually question traditional gender roles.

There are many social issues regardless if you are in college or not.
So for journalists to push an agenda based on social science beliefs and lack of fact checking.
There are situations of rape and assault in colleges, however it is not as big as the film claims and overall only makes things worse especially for those who are innocent yet still get accused as well as the real victims where the data misrepresents their experiences.

"It's not a documentary, it's an agenda driven propoganda film created by activists"
What's the difference? Doesn't that describe like 95% of documentaries?
Filmmakers generally don't make documentaries in search of the truth, they make documnetaries about an issue they're passionate about and therefore they tend to present one side of the facts, shying away from any data that disagrees with them and using the documentary format makes their side look objective and right even when that's often not the case.
