Yeah, creepy but fun
He is burned down to nothing but a skeleton, but still alive somehow.
When I was little I liked that scene, I don't know if it was funny or because it was epic. Now that I see it older, it seems to me that it is quite bloody for a Mario game.
And then moments later he gets karma
Who wouldn't feel satisfaction seeing how the guy who kidnapped (several times) your beloved and made you travel through 8 worlds (several times) burns in lava and ends up being a pure skeleton, plus Mario must already be used to throwing Bowser to the lava, he knows he will always return
The ds version use to scare me just seeing bowser being burned alive into a skeleton actually made me feel bad

I remember being surprised they did that because it was kinda dark, but I mainly just appreciated it as the nod to Super Metroid that it was.

mario galaxy is probably the darkest one. almost everything he wanted was gone.
DS one too, his skins literally gets burned and turns into skeleton
I mean he literally breathes fire, dropping him in fire really doesn't do damage for him, especially considering the fact he walks in lava in the nsmb series , him being drop in laval is like being drop in a swimming pool
What? He does suffer damage from fire ask the fire flower it's like saying just because we are made mostly of water we can't drown

You know technically in the first Mario Galaxy Bowser didn't actually fall in lava because the final battle takes place in the Sun so technically Bowser fell into plasma of gases

Bowser falls into lava, but he always appears unscathed in the next game. In fact, in Super Mario Galaxy, he instantly comes back alright. Dizzy and weakened, but alright.
