    Have you seen the portion of Soul On Fire where (We Like) Mike Marciano is talking about "the old Yamaha unit" he and Josh Silver used to get the Bloody Kisses/October Rust sound?? I'm almost positive they used the same patch in the SPX90 but kept it subdued in the mix so they could layer things without the width getting out of hand. He and the band referred to the effect as "adding fur" to the sound.

    On a more serious note: I'm sure this will make you want to bullwhip me out of your comment section, but the closest I've got to playing an MP-1 is downloading a Kemper profile of one after reading it's what was used on ATF.
    I was trying to recreate the tone using everything else I had (real amps, okay? Mainly my Marshall JVM) and even exactly matching the EQ curve using stems/match EQ and it just was not doing it at all. Using the MP-1/Kemper absolutely /nailed/ it perfectly to the point I couldn't tell the difference between my recording and the stem.
    Obviously a Kemper is not the real thing, but what I noticed especially was the MP-1 profile brought this incredible smoothness and compression to the sound, almost like it drastically improved my playing. It's especially noticable on songs like "My Own Summer" where there's a lot of choppy playing.

    • @CIRCLEOFTONE
      @CIRCLEOFTONE  9 месяцев назад

      Kemper is a good option because essentially the mp-1 is solid state. It has a Tube but it's a bit snake oily when it comes to being direct. My point with Kemper etc is they have a good impact for the first few seconds but long term they are flat compared to an mp-1 with a 100 watt tube section making speakers struggle. You also get authentic feedback like in Shut It etc and can't get that with a Kemper direct. I don't doubt it that you got closer than me haha. Mine was way off.

    Any plans to do something on Children Of Bodom? I recently got another guitar(LTD Arrow 1000) so I put my other guitar in drop c to learn some of their stuff, but I can't quite get the sound. I don't have much bass going and lots of upper mids and highs, yet it still sounds somewhat muddy(same guitar and pickups in standard don't)

    • @stevenhirsekorn3444
      @stevenhirsekorn3444 Год назад

      He runs his gain on his amp very low and uses a passive emg with a gain boost. He also has a boss chorus but no boost pedal in front of the amp. Im assuming you're using the arrow in its stock form with the emg 81. Turn your gain down pretty low and just tweak your bass and mids

    • @Ayyem93
      @Ayyem93 Год назад

      @@stevenhirsekorn3444 I'm not using the Arrow, I'm using a Rhoads with passive ceramic pickups(also tried alnico) and my gain isn't very high, less than 75% of max, and with the same gauge strings he used. Can you understand my confusion better now?
      It sounds fine in standard with that guitar or the Arrow with the 85, just drop c is off. It still sounds fine for other stuff, just that crisp clear sound he had isn't there(specifically the sound on Are You Dead Yet, In Your Face and Hellhounds On My Trail as they're the only ones I know currently)

    should have @9:08 as the NEW Circle Of Tone INTRO FOR EVERY VIDEO....!!!!
    it was gold and i swear its hilarious as, a good way to set the tone for each video since we are the vanilla sausage gang!
    i felt like this video was good, but the overall drum sound for around the fur was massive, and the cymbals were very abrasive, and i always fell like unless your working with real acoustic drumkit samples on an electric drumkit or a daw, i always can tell the difference cause they are lifeless compared to a real acoustic drumkit... thats my only issue with this, i found it to be to small sounding of a overall mix, the guitars were dead on, but even then Stephen does bends for every part of the song, for flavour.
    the bass tone in around the fur was hugggggeee... so i felt like this mix was only dead on with the guitars, the bass and drums were kinda way off to be honest, and i know for a fact Owen from circle of tone does it right every time.... ive heard him even nail the mixes with alice in chains and thats a impossible band to get the guitar tones even close.... (every other youtube video on alice tones from other ppl are wayyyyyyy off...)

      Yeah honestly I don’t know what the point of the site is if this isn’t it. Straight up, most musicians playing is covers. And you don’t move forward without growing a channel. And if you have to use your own material to do so, it simply won’t exist. So RUclips ensures that their platform cannot be a place where you get discovered as a player or artist.
      They really forgot what made them great at the beginning. Just like so many things.

      @@CIRCLEOFTONE I remember seeing a video where Stephen was kinda complaining about Chino playing guitar because Steph was in some dropped tuning this would’ve been after 2003 by the way Stephen has an incredible guitar tone on that self titled album especially considering how low he was tuning. Anyway he was saying he was in a dropped tuning and Chino would be standardish or something. I love the Deftones and I especially appreciate their approach to doing covers, but those first three albums are special even as different as the White Pony sounded compared to the first two it’s amazing. Most of the really great albums from the 90s did the one song into another song really well where does one start and another end thing that I didn’t appreciate back then but I sorely miss albums as in a one 25-60 minute piece of material. I’m with you on DAW perfectly time aligned stuff sucks all the R&R right out of it.

    I can give you a huge reason their new stuff isn't as good as the first 3. This is simple to me.
    Down tuning.
    They go down after every record. And now they're SUPER low. Carpenter seems to have lost the ability to do the melodic thing he used to have because of it.
    Btw... I'm not saying you can't write nice melodic shit while tuned down. But the lower HE goes the more he falls into chugging which loses that ethereal quality they had. Chino can't do it all by himself.
    This was a great video man.
