Don’t forget about the injuries to Carol Thabo literally getting his leg broken by the police and delivadova hurting korver who still hasnt recovered and Jeff Teague had a hip injury the whole season
CapthaClamper XL was just going to post this.. their season turned around completely after the thabo incident.. u could c that the chemistry of the team changed. The team that won all those games.. was not the team that entered the play-offs
As a hawks fan, this hurts my heart. This team was so much fun to watch and they played probably the best team basketball in recent NBA history other than the Spurs. If Delly hadn’t hurt Horford then they might have had a legit shot at beating the Cavs
No dude. The cavs were missing 2 of their main guys yet they swept the hawks. You’re saying if the 15 point per game scored in AL didn’t get injured they would have beaten the cavs? Brother wake tf up.
I like the humor, keep up the good work. One lesson to take away is also that once you're winning, and have talent like this Hawks team did, that's the time to trade for a superstar. So letting Carroll walk away was a good decision, but shud have traded for a Counsins or P. George like player, who was always in the trade rumor, maybe they cud have traded Millsap and Horford, or any package including two of their starters for any of them before they left team. I believe they're next step after this 60 win season was signing bazemore to a big contract, w/c was a bad decision. So yeah, trade for a superstar in the trade rumors once you start winning, that shouldn't hurt.
I think they shocked their own front office. Since then, they put too much trust in the coaching, and let go many of those key players, not realizing how important chemistry was to that team. And as someone who goes to hawks games, it obvious the hawks front office are content with just making the playoffs versus taking risk and trading/signing a superstar. They have (had) the 2nd longest active playoff streak in the NBA, 10 seasons straight. It sucks for hawks fans
They got Dwight Howard!! >.< they have no idea how to acquire players. Howard was and still is a bust. Tons of natural talent but can't get there. Kwame Brown syndrome
Remember this '15 hawks squad mainly because this was the year the Dubs broke out, and theyre leading both conferences. Their 1st regular season matchup that year that the hawks won was highly anticipated
And the 2015 cavs didn’t have kyrie and love in the playoffs vs the hawks. So you’re saying Korver’s injury is a big impact? How about Kyrie and Love out against the Hawks
This Hawks team is probably one superstar away from reaching the Finals. Sure they got all stars., but they don’t have the type of player that can carry them to the next level
Miami 2013 had 4 all star selections too Chris Bosh, Lebron James, Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade and Juan Howard. So did Cavs 2015 with Lebron, Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving and Shawn Marion. 2017 Cavs of Korver, Irving, James and Love. 2016 Cavs of William Mo, James, Love and Irving. Not to forget Warriors 2015 of Iguodala, David Lee, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
The 1998 Lakers had 4 All-Stars on the roster, were #1 ranked offense, and won 61 games. SWEPT by the Utah Jazz Stockton/Malone/Hornacek combo. Anyone who wants to call the Jazz "weak"...look who they went through to get to the Bulls that year. It may be the greatest playoff run to the Finals in NBA history.
I am a die hard hawks fan who went to the home season opener that year, and I will tell you some things you missed and important points that affected the Hawks tremendously in the playoffs and ultimately them being swept by the Cavs. First, Thabo Sefoloshas leg was broken by the New York City Police and was out for the season after a game against Brooklyn in an incident at a night club in February or March and that was a huge blow to the team as Demarre Carrols main reserve and second rotation guy and arguably our second or 3rd best defender who would guard the other teams best player every night when Carrol sat. Then Paul Millsap got injured and missed 10 or 15 games during the last stretch of the season (the Hawks were on pace to win 67 games before this happened and I think we split the games he was absent), Al Horford dislocated his finger affecting his shot in the Wizards series, and then lets not forget what happened during the Cavs series when Matthew Dellvavedova rolled onto Kyle Korvers ankles, taking him out for the rest of the series in Game 1 or 2. All of that made the end of this season sting hard for Hawks fans, and the last games of the Hawks Cavs series hard to watch. Especially so since the Cavs got stomped by the Warriors and they themselves hobbled into the Finals and had no chance, By all intents and purposes Hawks vs Warriors in the Finals would have been much more entertaining (had at least Korver not gone down) but there is also the argument that if Kyrie hadnt gone down too. The Hawks 19 game win streak happened in January, you could argue we peaked too early, and as you said there was no dignified super star on the 2014-2015 Hawks so when you take all the stuff I mentioned into consideration, the team was ultimately very fragile and lose a couple pieces and rotation guys (yep Sefolosha was a huge blow) much less losing starters to injury, its not hard to see why they got swept in the Eastern Conference Finals. Still though, that season was a hell of a ride and an excellent time in Atlanta. The Hawks made plenty of mistakes in the following seasons trading or not matching contracts to keep all our starters and core intact and signing Dwight Howard the season after that I have plenty of knowledge and opinion on, but thats whole other topic. Some other fun facts of that season, head Coach Mike Budenholzer was named Coach of the Year, and all 5 hawks starters were named player of the month for the Eastern Conference in January when we went 17-0, and no team had ever had a perfect January OR had all 5 starters be co-player of the month either. I wont get into all the franchise records that were broken that year but there were quite a few of those too!
Cedric had a great finals but Larry was the one who changed the culture from day one. Larry was a superstar right away, more so than Magic Johnson. We are talking 21/11/5 for Larry Bird in 80-81 and his style of play was already making veterans look foolish with the passes and fakes. Larry was 24 years old and Cedric was 25. Cedric winning the Finals MVP was similar to Andre Iguodala winning the NBA Finals MVP.
This does just show you how much the nba has improved! Cavs are better now, golden state is beating everyone... celtics are winning the east. And I remember how the cavs made the finals in 2015, they were much improved in 2016 and 17 considering the warriors had Durant! This hawks team probably wouldn’t get to far now.... which is a complement this is a pretty good team... the nba is sooo good now!!
I don't see much people talking about how LeBron James sweep a +60w team practically by himself. Another example of how ridiculously great he was and is. So thank you for reminding this to people
Exactly, but let the idiotic haters with no knowledge of the history and didn't even watch the fucking games keep saying the "eAsT iS wEaK". They also forget K Love also missed Game 7 of the ECF in Boston in 2018 and lots of key games during the 1st round. Never in my life seen someone carry a team like LeBron in the playoffs.
You have to cover the 2012-2013 choke squad that was the Memphis Grizzlies. 56-26, top defensive team in the NBA, well rounded offense, and choked four games in the conference finals.
Keigo Robinson Yeah. It feels weird saying this, but Demarre Carroll was your best player in the ECF, and he got injured in game 1. With him out, you really had nobody to guard Lebron. Plus, Dellavedova injured Kyle Korver in game 2. And then Al Horford got ejected in game 3 for a scuffle with Delly.
Carrol was their leading scorer and went into the series against the Cavs injured. He averaged 4 points in the Cavs series. Avg 20 in the season. Kyle was injured. Horford got suspended a game too. Gg Thabo was hurt too. Smh
It's crazy when you think Mike Bud coaching staff from this Hawks squad are so far making good coaching career for playoffs seed teams atm. - Darvin Ham (still Bud's top assistant in Milwaukee). - Taylor Jenkins (now coaching the Grizzlies) - Kenny Atkinson (well, until he left the Nets ofc) Ntm Quin Snyder was a part of the staff from previous season. Well, this team was indeed special back then.
If this Hawks team made the finals fully healthy against GSW in 2015 they coulda beat them fr. Hawks matched up well against them that year and were regularly battling with them for best record in the league until the end
Cookie Monster They were definitely playing above their level. I remember they had a stretch where they were crazy good for like 30 games but for the rest of the season they were painfully average. They were playing like eastern conference 6 seed level. The 30 game stretch was just enough to get them 60 wins but it was a deceptive 60. And if I remember correctly, 98 percent of NBA fans weren’t surprised to see them struggle and get swept in the playoffs
2014 Spurs just didn't play superstar basketball, that team had been through all the wars and guys did not care about their numbers. That 2014 Spurs team will most likely have 4 hall of Famers so it really isn't unlikely that they won.
That '81 Celtics team had Larry Bird. It may have only have been 2nd year Bird but he was putting up 21 and 11 and almost 6 assists per game. And those numbers went up in the playoffs, he put up 22 ppg, 14 rpg and 6 assists per game., 2 spg and 1 bpg.
MDJ This team was foolish for dismantling this team. They should have been like the Spurs, acquiring high ceiling picks at the bottom of the draft that they could develop while acquiring assets that they could flip into packages for all-star talents. This team easily had a 3-4 year window of being an elite Eastern Conference team.
The 2014 Spurs had a bonified Superstart in Khawai Leonard.. Yes they did a team basketball but it was Leonard who scored most of the time and he was the one who stopped Lebron James.
Great video! I have nothing intelligent to add to begin a conversation based on what you said. You kinda covered everything. So.... Great Video! And Happy new year!
Tony Parker was definitely a top 10 player in 2014. A lot of people were saying he was the best or second best of in the league that season. Add to that the best 6th man ever in Manu and the best PF ever in Tim Duncan who was still a beast in his own right and you have a completely different built team than the Hawks. If it wasn't for the East being ridiculously weak that year they wouldn't have won so many games. They were still a well built team but not as well built as a team like the Billups Pistons in 2004.
How to get a million subs 1.) Make an exaggeration claim (ex. Player X will break the NBA!) 2.) Back up those claims with bullshit back stories 3.) PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!!
What everyone overlooks in there videos about those Hawks and their "4 all-stars" is the fact the Hawks had this unbelievable run of 19 wins just before the All-Star Game (whole starting 5 won "Player of the month" for January). IMO this was the main factor of their 4 all-star nominations. If the wins were more spaced in time, I believe maybe 2 players would have gotten in from this team - Al Horford and Paul Millsap. PS. Kyler Korver was also a replacement for Wade this year, so not a "full" all-star nominee.
Finally someone actually acknowledges the fact that the hawks exist 😂 I’m actually not very surprised that no one really cares about us, because we’re probably one of the worst teams in the league
“Sweep” deserves an asterisk. All the starters had some injury during the series. The one chance they had was game 3 where they were up in the half....but Horford got ejected. That game went into OT. The Best player during the Playoffs was Demarre Carrol. Losing him game one to his knee injury in game 1 really hurt the Hawks.
there is one thing that is underated and it's "knowing how to win BECAUSE you have already won". LeBron has improved in attitude after the first championship, it's a different player and of course a better player. Those Hawks had no champions, no relevant experience in playoff and no winning attitude: LeBron had.
The second round of those 2015 playoffs were truly great. 4 great game tying/winning shots (Rose, Pierce, LeBron, Pierce again but got called off). Still to this day salty the bulls blew the 2-1 series lead on the Cavs that year...
I don't see this as that big of a deal, my Lakers in 1997-98 had 4 all stars in Shaq, Kobe, Eddie Jones and Van Exel, they won 62 games and were swept by the Jazz in the WCF...whatever, we still go the threepeat after that
Iehh but that was against the best team in nba history by theory, 4 allstars BUT are superstars and alsothe 1st seed in a very stacked conference .the 2014 - 2015 Cavs without Love and Kyrie should have not stood a chance against a 60 win team with "allstars" (tbh Milsap and Horford are probably the only players who deserved those titles that time, and it's not even that convincing)
Micronutrient Deficiency #1 Yea agreed. Teague and Korver were only there because they were in the middle of a huge win streak. They weren’t truly a 60 win team. They were average outside of a huge win streak and most people weren’t surprised when Lebron swept them even on his own
That's why they got swept. No Kawhi, no Parker and they even lost David Lee to injury in the middle of the series. The Spurs were injury-riddled last WCF.

I think all three of those guys were definitely NOT replaceable. A championship team roster is much more sensitive than that.
He should make one on the 2013/14 Mavs who took the Spurs to seven games in Round 1 and were probably the second best team in the league, only to trade away key players the following season for Rajon Rondo which ultimately killed off what they had.
the story of the mavs. sometimes i think they are the comboys (but without the hayday). also barea is still there
they didn't really blow it up i mean peja retired wasnt resigned cause he was old ...jj wanted too much money since he never got paid and that was his only chance to cash in being a 2nd round pick ..caron was washed up and a cancer on the court since they won without him..deshawn wanted to get paid and was overvalued since he was washed by 2012 so the mavs doged a bullet there since the hawks over reached for a career backup meant to play 18 minutes not even 24 at that point since he had no handling skills.. ...mahinmi had 1 good game and was paid like a true backup which he wasnt...corey brewer was nothing for their run so why pay him?... but the 2011 mavs did lose valuable training camp time to defend their title due to the lockout....chandler was a big loss for sure...should of kept that starting 5 together..the bench guys could easily be replaced but what terry kidd dirk marion chandler did couldnt...not sure why he was let go...5 all star quality players right there all who played over 14 years at a high level....thats the starting 5 you dream about...just like the 04 pistons...a great 5 man lineup...jj was a tough loss but even he could be replaced by as we saw by delonte west...that 2012 mavs team without chandler got to round 1...all they needed was a center...wright west odom were nice backups...they were just as talented just no chandler ...damn
Aditya K just like the pacers before they lost Danny granger. You can’t mess with these teams chemistry
LMAO the cavs didn't even have kyrie, kevin love, and lebron was playing with a bent back!
And yall still got swept.
I mean, the Cavs had their second and third best players injured that series. Don't think an injury card is the best look to play here lol
They were on that crazy good win streak, and it came out of nowhere
The Tampa Bay Lightning in 2019 won 62 games and got swept out of the NHL Playoffs in the 1st round by Columbus.
It is
E X T R E M E L Y D I F F I C U L T
This is why you are my favorite basketball RUclipsr I have been waiting for someone to do a video on this because I myself am a Hawks fan.
As a hawks fan, this hurts my heart. This team was so much fun to watch and they played probably the best team basketball in recent NBA history other than the Spurs. If Delly hadn’t hurt Horford then they might have had a legit shot at beating the Cavs
No.
No dude. The cavs were missing 2 of their main guys yet they swept the hawks. You’re saying if the 15 point per game scored in AL didn’t get injured they would have beaten the cavs? Brother wake tf up.
my atlanta hawks CHOKED in 2015. those were good times though.
KPlaysSome it was great to be a GS fan.
Ibnziyad Tariq bandwagon
Dellavadova injured al and Kyle korver in this series don’t forget
Excuses, excuses guys.
October lol they got swept by a LeBron led cavs. Stop it
Lebron swept another 60 win team...
Those were the days.. great video
Kwame Brown syndrome
oh yeah, i forgot about dwight.
Been on an NBA binge in bed today and at 9 15 MDJ finally comes with the best NBA content on RUclips 👍💪
Now as of summer 2019, nobody on that hawks team is there anymore. Like if it’s still 2019
It's 2050 Hawks still struggling
Remember this '15 hawks squad mainly because this was the year the Dubs broke out, and theyre leading both conferences. Their 1st regular season matchup that year that the hawks won was highly anticipated
That 06 Pistons team was so much fun to watch...
Miss the NBA in the early 2000's!
They lost to the cavs because of delly injuring korver and delly getting horford ejected
And the 2015 cavs didn’t have kyrie and love in the playoffs vs the hawks. So you’re saying Korver’s injury is a big impact? How about Kyrie and Love out against the Hawks
Delly is a fucking dumbass piece of shit. Good to see he is not starting in the bucks.
I hated Delly back on the Cavs but no they lost because they didn't have anyone who could stop Lebron.
Wolves bandwagon fan since 1998 Kyle Korver was arguably the most important player on that roster, dumbass
This Hawks team is probably one superstar away from reaching the Finals. Sure they got all stars., but they don’t have the type of player that can carry them to the next level
The Atlanta Hawks went from best to worst real quick
Tsuny agreed
Nice stuff. You are legit the best youtuber who talks about nba.
Damn, RIP Hawks.
This is true. Those teams were good. Cavs were actually good that time…
Is anyones else's new year resolution to win a Championship
Jayson Tatum
Yup youre on the team i want to win
Jayson Tatum Yes!!!!
Let’s Go Celtics
Jayson Tatum=G.O.A.T
Uncle Drew
Me and Kyrie= GOATs
Jayson Tatum GOAT!!!!
Western Conference has always been the stronger conference. East has always been a joke of a Conference…
I couldn't agree more about the LeBron declining thing
Yep because nobody went to the finals till he left
1981 Boston Celtics? They had a superstar in Larry Bird, he turned things around during his rookie season.
Larry WAS ROTY, and was an impact player from the start, the Finals MVP in 1981 was Cedric Maxwell, and that was no accident.
*but the Finals MVP
Cedric had a great finals but Larry was the one who changed the culture from day one. Larry was a superstar right away, more so than Magic Johnson. We are talking 21/11/5 for Larry Bird in 80-81 and his style of play was already making veterans look foolish with the passes and fakes. Larry was 24 years old and Cedric was 25. Cedric winning the Finals MVP was similar to Andre Iguodala winning the NBA Finals MVP.
Richard Ronquillo magic was roty btw
@@TheBaconBasket1 Nah LBJ was carried by JR Smith and the Hawks weren’t at Full Power. Neither was GSW back in 2016…
You have to cover the 2012-2013 choke squad that was the Memphis Grizzlies. 56-26, top defensive team in the NBA, well rounded offense, and choked four games in the conference finals.
They really came out of nowhere, but they choked in the playoffs
Injuries derailed us
Keigo Robinson Yeah.
@@Doatello1991 Yep, this team will never be forgotten in my book.
Love this. Channel is very underrated. They r always interetsing
And with Kent bazemore getting traded to Portland NO HAWKS PLAYER from the 2014-15 season are still in the roster
Legend Gamer Jeff Teague got traded back to the Hawks in January even though he is not the Teague from 2014-15.
2017-18 Raptors nearly made this feat. but they only managed to win 59 games before being getting swept in the 2nd round
Carrol was their leading scorer and went into the series against the Cavs injured. He averaged 4 points in the Cavs series. Avg 20 in the season.
Kyle was injured. Horford got suspended a game too. Gg
Thabo was hurt too. Smh
Kyrie and love were hurt.
It's crazy when you think Mike Bud coaching staff from this Hawks squad are so far making good coaching career for playoffs seed teams atm.
- Darvin Ham (still Bud's top assistant in Milwaukee).
- Taylor Jenkins (now coaching the Grizzlies)
- Kenny Atkinson (well, until he left the Nets ofc)
Ntm Quin Snyder was a part of the staff from previous season.
Well, this team was indeed special back then.
I'm shooked
If this Hawks team made the finals fully healthy against GSW in 2015 they coulda beat them fr. Hawks matched up well against them that year and were regularly battling with them for best record in the league until the end
The bulls ended up being a bigger challenge for the cavs that year. They had a good chance.
2014 spurs had the best power forward of all time and an up and coming top 3 player in the nba. Don’t know what you were talking about
It was a fluke
No it was rape the cavs smacked them 2 years in a row 😂😂😂
Johnny Kilroy the season was
They played great that season even though it was a fluke korver was ballin that season for sure
No one can win 60 games by fluke wtf
I still love my hawks, even with all of the pain that comes from being a fan 😂.
As a Hawks fan .... It's rough
MDJ
This team was foolish for dismantling this team. They should have been like the Spurs, acquiring high ceiling picks at the bottom of the draft that they could develop while acquiring assets that they could flip into packages for all-star talents. This team easily had a 3-4 year window of being an elite Eastern Conference team.
Sad to be a Atlanta fan
ANAS Rana then you’re not a real fan
@@Steven_Stanton_Music I smell a gatekeeper.
Not to mention J.R smith absolutely torched the hawks that series. That whole Cavs team wouldn’t miss from 3 tbh
Scary!!!!
Reminds me of the raptors this season
Excellent regular season
And a LeBron choke in the playoffs
I'm a HUGE Hawks fan so thanks for the vid
jazz 2021?
Just watched about 10 of your videos, so much detail and research, earned a sub
120/0 like/dislike ratio??? Damn
Smh don't jinx it now ppl are gonna dislike just to mess with me
MDJ it was good while it lasted 😉
MDJ loved the video btw! Keep doing what you do
Crazy I was legit thinking about this team the other day... great vid!
Difference with that hawks and 2014 spurs
Spurs have a defender for LeBron..kawhi
Tony Parker was definitely a top 10 player in 2014. A lot of people were saying he was the best or second best of in the league that season. Add to that the best 6th man ever in Manu and the best PF ever in Tim Duncan who was still a beast in his own right and you have a completely different built team than the Hawks. If it wasn't for the East being ridiculously weak that year they wouldn't have won so many games. They were still a well built team but not as well built as a team like the Billups Pistons in 2004.
How to get a million subs
1.) Make an exaggeration claim (ex. Player X will break the NBA!)
2.) Back up those claims with bullshit back stories
3.) PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!!
Jaystroyer Productions Korzemba
Lol I love the ending. Good work man
Holy shit, Korver looks taller than Millsap and Horford.
Mj 2005 we getting that 1st round pick though 👀
That piece of advice was spot on 😂😂😂 but a legit video bro. Keep it up 👍🏾
Wow the warriors could have played the hawks that's crazy
“Sweep” deserves an asterisk. All the starters had some injury during the series. The one chance they had was game 3 where they were up in the half....but Horford got ejected. That game went into OT. The Best player during the Playoffs was Demarre Carrol. Losing him game one to his knee injury in game 1 really hurt the Hawks.
They traded Korver for a coke damn shame
there is one thing that is underated and it's "knowing how to win BECAUSE you have already won". LeBron has improved in attitude after the first championship, it's a different player and of course a better player. Those Hawks had no champions, no relevant experience in playoff and no winning attitude: LeBron had.
It's like the Beatles breaking up
The second round of those 2015 playoffs were truly great. 4 great game tying/winning shots (Rose, Pierce, LeBron, Pierce again but got called off). Still to this day salty the bulls blew the 2-1 series lead on the Cavs that year...
Lol the hawks and the nets in the playoffs
I don't see this as that big of a deal, my Lakers in 1997-98 had 4 all stars in Shaq, Kobe, Eddie Jones and Van Exel, they won 62 games and were swept by the Jazz in the WCF...whatever, we still go the threepeat after that
Spurs last year 61 wins got swept. I know they didn’t have kawhi but just sayin
Santi Medina that was the best team in the league by a mile and with 1 loss throughout the whole playoffs
They were average outside of a huge win streak and most people weren’t surprised when Lebron swept them even on his own
Sachin Johri btw korver was chosen by adam silver to replace d wade
That's why they got swept. No Kawhi, no Parker and they even lost David Lee to injury in the middle of the series. The Spurs were injury-riddled last WCF.
Dude, great video as always. Keep it up man
