      kasimk4 it’s the truth. They got beat by the Golden State Warriors led by Baron Davis. Nobody gave them a chance & the Mavs were the favorite to win it all plus Dirk was MVP that season I think but none the less the GSW beat them.

    The 2014-15 season proved that it’s a superstar driven league and soon after this, superstars started recruiting other superstars to create super teams. The era where a team like the 2004 Detroit Pistons or the 2014 Spurs can win an NBA Championship is over

      It's always been this way, teams like the the 2004 pistons and the 2014 spurs have always been outliers. And it's only been 3 seasons since the spurs won. Notice the 10year gap between the two teams as well. If by 2024, no non-superstar team wins, then you can say something.

    The whole starting 5 was named the NBA "player" of the month.
    I went to those games, and everyone came to see either Korver or Jeff Teague. But we all knew they weren't a serious team, those all star picks were charity. It was just so weird to see a team with no star to play amazing basketball, with a spurs like ball movement with a new coach, the NBA had to give them credit some way.

    To be fair, injuries played a major role in the way the 2015 Hawks season ended. No I don’t think they had a real chance against the Cavs but losing Carol before the series started, Thabo right as the series started, and Korver thanks to a cheapshot from dirty Delly ruined any chance the Hawks had to make the series interesting. I’m from just outside of Atlanta so after the way that season ended coupled with the Falcons blowing it in the SB I was on suicide watch. Luckily now the Bulldogs have a chance to win for us but I’m sure they’ll do what all Georgia teams do in big moments...choke.
    Thanks for the great content as always MDJ!
    Edit: You heard it here first. Dawgs pulls a Falcons and choke it away. Being a fan of Georgia sports team really is a masochistic hobby

    • @kys3264
      @kys3264 7 лет назад +29

    • @GlenLehane
      @GlenLehane 7 лет назад +25

      Dirty Delly? All he did was dive for a loose ball. Why did Kyle just stand there? So, he makes Team USA 2014, he becomes an All Star, and suddenly he's too good to dive for a loose ball. Kyle just fucking stands there!!!!

    • @basedautist3761
      @basedautist3761 7 лет назад +10

      I'm not saying the Hawks could have won the series, just that if they were healthy it would've been an interesting series given the Cavs were depleted.The Cavs had the best player since Jordan on their team so they didn't really need their next 2 best players to beat a team with 3 pretender allstars and one real one in Paul Millsap

    Man I remember this team. Poor playoff showing overall but injuries also ensured the sweep against the Cavs. I remember when people were calling for Delly's head when he caused Korver's ankle injury while hustling for a loose ball.
    They were definitely a great SEASON team tho. Especially during one month (i think it was January) where they went on a tear and ended up with the ENTIRE starting lineup become player of the month.

    Make a video on the Mavs just blowing up their roster after immediately winning a championship and why couldn't they attract free agents/withhold rebuilding for so long

    • @razkable
      @razkable 7 лет назад +2

      Mavs have yet to win a playoff series since 2011 finals....also they really only lost barea Chandler stevenson and peja retired ...3 of those guys were replaceable ....Chandler was not...Ian mahinmi too but he was replaceable as he didbt do much outside of game 6 of the finals.....Corey brewer as well...they should of kept Tyson

    • @mikeruck2888
      @mikeruck2888 7 лет назад +8

      I think all three of those guys were definitely NOT replaceable. A championship team roster is much more sensitive than that.

    • @ItsMinarmy
      @ItsMinarmy 6 лет назад +9

      He should make one on the 2013/14 Mavs who took the Spurs to seven games in Round 1 and were probably the second best team in the league, only to trade away key players the following season for Rajon Rondo which ultimately killed off what they had.

    • @blackmanwhitesuit

      the story of the mavs. sometimes i think they are the comboys (but without the hayday). also barea is still there

    • @razkable
      @razkable 6 лет назад

      they didn't really blow it up i mean peja retired wasnt resigned cause he was old ...jj wanted too much money since he never got paid and that was his only chance to cash in being a 2nd round pick ..caron was washed up and a cancer on the court since they won without him..deshawn wanted to get paid and was overvalued since he was washed by 2012 so the mavs doged a bullet there since the hawks over reached for a career backup meant to play 18 minutes not even 24 at that point since he had no handling skills.. ...mahinmi had 1 good game and was paid like a true backup which he wasnt...corey brewer was nothing for their run so why pay him?... but the 2011 mavs did lose valuable training camp time to defend their title due to the lockout....chandler was a big loss for sure...should of kept that starting 5 together..the bench guys could easily be replaced but what terry kidd dirk marion chandler did couldnt...not sure why he was let go...5 all star quality players right there all who played over 14 years at a high level....thats the starting 5 you dream about...just like the 04 pistons...a great 5 man lineup...jj was a tough loss but even he could be replaced by as we saw by delonte west...that 2012 mavs team without chandler got to round 1...all they needed was a center...wright west odom were nice backups...they were just as talented just no chandler ...damn

    I like the humor, keep up the good work.
    One lesson to take away is also that once you're winning, and have talent like this Hawks team did, that's the time to trade for a superstar.
    So letting Carroll walk away was a good decision, but shud have traded for a Counsins or P. George like player, who was always in the trade rumor, maybe they cud have traded Millsap and Horford, or any package including two of their starters for any of them before they left team.
    I believe they're next step after this 60 win season was signing bazemore to a big contract, w/c was a bad decision. So yeah, trade for a superstar in the trade rumors once you start winning, that shouldn't hurt.

    • @jamesburgess2k
      @jamesburgess2k 7 лет назад +8

      I think they shocked their own front office. Since then, they put too much trust in the coaching, and let go many of those key players,not realizing how important chemistry was to that team.
      And as someone who goes to hawks games, it obvious the hawks front office are content with just making the playoffs versus taking risk and trading/signing a superstar. They have (had) the 2nd longest active playoff streak in the NBA, 10 seasons straight. It sucks for hawks fans

    I am a die hard hawks fan who went to the home season opener that year, and I will tell you some things you missed and important points that affected the Hawks tremendously in the playoffs and ultimately them being swept by the Cavs. First, Thabo Sefoloshas leg was broken by the New York City Police and was out for the season after a game against Brooklyn in an incident at a night club in February or March and that was a huge blow to the team as Demarre Carrols main reserve and second rotation guy and arguably our second or 3rd best defender who would guard the other teams best player every night when Carrol sat. Then Paul Millsap got injured and missed 10 or 15 games during the last stretch of the season (the Hawks were on pace to win 67 games before this happened and I think we split the games he was absent), Al Horford dislocated his finger affecting his shot in the Wizards series, and then lets not forget what happened during the Cavs series when Matthew Dellvavedova rolled onto Kyle Korvers ankles, taking him out for the rest of the series in Game 1 or 2.
    All of that made the end of this season sting hard for Hawks fans, and the last games of the Hawks Cavs series hard to watch. Especially so since the Cavs got stomped by the Warriors and they themselves hobbled into the Finals and had no chance, By all intents and purposes Hawks vs Warriors in the Finals would have been much more entertaining (had at least Korver not gone down) but there is also the argument that if Kyrie hadnt gone down too.
    The Hawks 19 game win streak happened in January, you could argue we peaked too early, and as you said there was no dignified super star on the 2014-2015 Hawks so when you take all the stuff I mentioned into consideration, the team was ultimately very fragile and lose a couple pieces and rotation guys (yep Sefolosha was a huge blow) much less losing starters to injury, its not hard to see why they got swept in the Eastern Conference Finals. Still though, that season was a hell of a ride and an excellent time in Atlanta. The Hawks made plenty of mistakes in the following seasons trading or not matching contracts to keep all our starters and core intact and signing Dwight Howard the season after that I have plenty of knowledge and opinion on, but thats whole other topic.
    Some other fun facts of that season, head Coach Mike Budenholzer was named Coach of the Year, and all 5 hawks starters were named player of the month for the Eastern Conference in January when we went 17-0, and no team had ever had a perfect January OR had all 5 starters be co-player of the month either. I wont get into all the franchise records that were broken that year but there were quite a few of those too!

We are talking 21/11/5 for Larry Bird in 80-81 and his style of play was already making veterans look foolish with the passes and fakes. Larry was 24 years old and Cedric was 25. Cedric winning the Finals MVP was similar to Andre Iguodala winning the NBA Finals MVP.

    Tony Parker was definitely a top 10 player in 2014. A lot of people were saying he was the best or second best of in the league that season. Add to that the best 6th man ever in Manu and the best PF ever in Tim Duncan who was still a beast in his own right and you have a completely different built team than the Hawks. If it wasn't for the East being ridiculously weak that year they wouldn't have won so many games. They were still a well built team but not as well built as a team like the Billups Pistons in 2004.

    What everyone overlooks in there videos about those Hawks and their "4 all-stars" is the fact the Hawks had this unbelievable run of 19 wins just before the All-Star Game (whole starting 5 won "Player of the month" for January). IMO this was the main factor of their 4 all-star nominations. If the wins were more spaced in time, I believe maybe 2 players would have gotten in from this team - Al Horford and Paul Millsap.
    PS. Kyler Korver was also a replacement for Wade this year, so not a "full" all-star nominee.
