So I ordered an Eastman mandolin last week, then came across this series. I’ve watched every single video, and now I don’t know if I’ll be happy with the Eastman 😂. Beautiful work!
Hey Jerry I’ve been watching you for over a year now and just watching you work and the kind of person you are I just really appreciate your videos and appreciate the woodworking you’re doing and the music you’re making. I pray that God will bless you and keep you make his light to shine on you.
Amen! May God bless this man and may his tribe increase. In my early adulthood I had anger issues so I'd watch episodes of the Bob Newheart show and I'd study his calm, meek, and pleasant temperament and the way he calmly reacted to stressful situations. I started emulating his mannerisms in my own stressful situations. Life became far better as I incorporated these positive things into my character. In your videos, Jerry, I sense an air of calmness gained from your years of not sweating the small stuff:.after all, it's really all small stuff when we look at the big picture. I only woke up a short time ago so I checked my phone and RUclips was the first thing I saw. I started watching a couple of camping videos. The first one was full of complaining and arguing. I didn't waste my time letting that stuff creep into my mind so even though the video had only played for a couple of minutes I clicked on another camping video. Wouldn't you just know it.... this video was just as bad as the first.... soooo I turned the second video off and decided that I'd spend my morning with our friend, Jerry Rosa; mild mannered, friendly artisan of many skills and much knowledge about stringed musical instruments. He has also learned much wisdom concerning how to properly live life and walk through life at peace with God and man. It never fails; RSW videos always lower my blood pressure, help me have a calm and cheerful attitude, and peak my interest in not only my guitars but in the new mandolin, my first, that I will pay off on October third. I selected a nice Eastman MD515 with the classic finish. Jerry seems to generally have a good opinion of this brand and model as a beginner instrument... that's plenty good enough for me. After I've played it for long enough that my "mandolin ear" has developed I may ask Jerry to see if he will put an antler saddle on it and give it the "full meal deal". Thank you Jerry for sharing your videos and you know she's helping us learn what to look for in an instrument and the potential that can be brought out of an instrument. You are the Bob Ross of the mandolin world with our, "happy little roses".
I've recently gotten back into the mandolin after a hiatus, and found your videos. A long time ago I nearly went and trained as a luthier but had to withdraw my application to the school, something I always regretted, but watching you make this mandolin and repair many others has really keyed my interest. I particularly enjoyed watching this instrument being built, and it's definitely got a punch to it to match the way it looks. Your instructional videos are really useful too as I go back and review the fundamentals, really straightforward and easy to grasp. Thanks.
Sounds like it has built in reverb,It projects so well, really has a beautiful sound Jerry, best sounding mandolin I’ve ever heard, congratulations brother.
Jerry you are amazing I have been playing music for almost 40 years and growing up I had to work on my own instruments and I have learned so much from you bar none!!!
Jerry, I'm new to your channel and the first thing I watched was the built of this mandolin all the way through. and as you were going through the process, you had me worried as you kept doubting and having a fit about the binding and finish, etc. but in the end, what was the most Important thing, is when she came to life and sat up and sang. I was blown away. my hats off to you sir, and thanks for the trip.
Jerry, I can't tell you how much joy it gives me to watch your passion making instruments, and taking care of them. To see you happy like a kid with smiling eyes is just amazing! 😄 What a mandolin! Wow! Blessings from summer- Stockholm, Sweden.
That’s it, Mr. Rosa…I want you to build me a drum set! Watching this build has brought so much joy to me and to all your fans. You truly deserve the title of Maestro (Master).
Once again, I am happy that I was sitting down when you struck the first Chord ! Oh my goodness ! What more can anyone say ! She is beautiful all way around ! The SOUND ! Whoa !
binge watched the whole series. Brilliant hard work. Tenacious? You bet. I love the mellow tones and I noticed you mentioned how the top carve affected the level of brightness. Thank you for a brilliant show. I learned a lot. Back to my Fursch F style with new vigour!💯👍
I watch the Birth of this Beautiful Mandolin from start To finish and i can tell U blow My mind This the most Sweetest Sound and look Ever Congratulations sir U made A masterpiece ❤
truly inspiring, sir! what a wonderfully crafted instrument. I think it looks absolutely perfect, and the strong mids coming out of that puppy when it's strummed are something to behold.
Congratulations the finest sounds fantastic! Thank you for sharing the whole process. I have watched each and every one. Loved every minute. Play away Jerry
I don't know a damn thing about mandolins but I know when I'm watching an artist at work. Congrats on a great build Jerry, it is a beautiful instrument.
All I can say is, "Oh my gosh"!!! The inlay work looks terrific, nice colours, great sound. I hope you'll show us all again after you've completed all varnish coating. I guess it'll sound even better when the varnish has completely hardened.
great to see. and those calton cases are incredible. my dad has used one since the 1970's and his guitar has survived some real extremes, flying and anything you throw at it. essential.
After 40 years you hit the jackpot! Very beautifull instrument, and it sounds amazing . Have fun with it you've earn it greetings from the Netherlands.
Back a few episodes, when you were just thumping on the box, I could hear that it was going to be a great sounding instrument. And I was RIGHT That sound is just wonderful! This is indeed special. Congratulations, and thanks for bringing us along. Much love.
Hi Jerry; I'd say this mandolin is the pride of "The Rosa" collection. Looks wonderful and sounds even better. It truely is The Rosa. It's hard to believe how the sound remains so true from high volume all the way to minimum volume in the sustain. Keep on truckin my friend.
Funny at first thought I figured maybe air brush colored lacquer would look better on the face. Not now! The way you did it you see all the grain there's not an other instrument that looks like that Nor will there ever be. Thanks for letting us watch you build The Worlds Finest Mandolin Ever Build By a Human.
Wow!!! All your videos are super fun but this beautiful Manolin is exquisite! Thank you so very much for sharing the creation of your music instruments. 🙏♥️🏆
Incredible job, Jerry! Like it’s maker - it does the job with style and class, despite the few imperfections! 😂 Really enjoyed watching this one - as all the others!
I know you have your way and don't like doing it, but as a stock maker the traditional and best way to use Tru-oil is to rub it in by hand. Many coats rubbed in with steel wool between each coat builds up a VERY smooth finish without the little pimples and runs you experienced. The wamth of your hand helps get it to set up. You only need to put on very light coats each time, just plenty of them over time. All that aside that is one very fine instrument.
I'm with you on hand applying tru oil and its the only way I do it with about 3 very thin coats per 24hrs with the 3rd using 0000 steel wool and after about 20 thin coats I get a very very good finish with very few imperfections. I build Ash telecasters and strats and 80% are stained with tru oil finish. I normally leave them around a week before I polish up the finish and I get it like glass! I think Jerry sprays it just to save time but I wouldn't do that as you can't control the amount going on. But if he likes it then who am I to criticise 😆
Astounding! That makes me so happy hearing both your mandolin and you. Having seen the trials and the complexity of this journey and to hear it play so beautifully is just amazing :) The sound is so complex but the harmonics are ringing out clear and sweet as a bell! Nailed it!!! Haha, congrats!
Oh how I love its colors.... and you were SO worried about that. The tone is wonderful, even through youtube. Wowsers! Lloyd would indeed be proud of your accomplishment. I somehow feel that his Spirit knows when a good one is born... maybe even helps from Heaven during the making.
Sounds really nice. Apparently, the Loar style carving, matched the tones of that top. You’re very fortunate that it worked out, as each piece of wood is unique, in its tone qualities.
You built a great one, Jerry - and it's still new. A few years of picking, sped up with the use of a ToneRite will make all the difference in aging the sound. Congratulations, Jerry, and well done! I wish you many years of pickin' pleasure on it. A keeper, for sure.
So I ordered an Eastman mandolin last week, then came across this series. I’ve watched every single video, and now I don’t know if I’ll be happy with the Eastman 😂. Beautiful work!
Don't worry bro. A mandolin like this is worth thousands and thousands. Eastman will serve you so well! Keep pickin!
Spent the day watching every video. The end result is a spectacular Mandolin built by a human.
That look of pure joy on your face the first time you played it was priceless. Thanks for sharing your craft.
