For a Nick show, the pilot is pretty alright, though one thing I gotta say is that the monster design in this episode looks like something straight out of Rick and Morty.
wttw is a heavily story-driven continuity-y show. i've watched all five episodes that have aired so far (and the original shorts) and i think the newer ones (that involve vampires) are better. i can get your complaint that this show might not seem like something you'd continue to watch but i think the comedy + the interesting _wacky_ hotel is the hook. and the story, of course, if you're patient enough.
I’m still pissed about how Nick royally screwed over this show to the point where most people don’t even know what it is and the worst part is this is actually an amazing show which had so much potential
Dude, you really hit the nail on the head with your review here. The show is not by any means terrible, but if it doesn't make some changes in time I'm not sure how long it will last on the network or for how long I'll be able to tolerate it. It does seem to have potential, so hopefully things will be looking up.
First time for me hearing of this show, but based on what you've said and shown, the main character has traits of two characters in a rather remarked way: Dipper Pines (Gravity Falls): Logical but adventurous just as you said. Dipper actually is all in on the mystery solving of the diaries, and jumps in when something weird happens, but a big reason for that is also because it usually spells problems for those around him, like the gnomes and Mabel in episode 1. Likes poetry but wants to stay grounded to Earth and out of trouble, hoping all this nonsense. Wirt (Over the Garden Wall): He isn't very brave, and does the brave deeds he's done out of absolute need, trying to cope with where he is at while looking for a way home every inch of the way, unlike his whimsical, energetic, and curious little brother, Greg. Wirt likes poetry, plays the clarinet, and has architectural books as a hobby. Both highly acclaimed shows with a surprisingly low amount of merchandise behind them. I think this show tries to be the next but is not properly characterizing them (from my first impression of watching this video that is). The background art feels rather flat to me. It is simple in design, just like the characters. In Gravity Falls and OTGW the characters were simple and stylized, too. However, the backgrounds always contrasted in detail or brightness, and the contrast worked. Here in this show it feels like it might get tiring soon. Some parts of the walls feel like they try to take a page from the Mystery Shack of uncle Stan, but are just random decorations and the walls somehow still look a bit scarce IMO. All in all, I'm still yet to check it out and see what happens, even if it is not a good sign when the main character tries to mix two other characters with contradicting traits. If the show is allowed to last enough, it could eventually pull itself together. It wouldn't be the first time a show does that from being kind of meh (looking at Clearance).
So wait this was the pilot of the show? when it came on while I was babysitting a kiddo and it came on, i thought it was a later episode. That is not good.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed how similar Ollie was to Gene. Ollie is honestly my favorite character so far and Ansi is too bland for me to really care about right now.
7:48 he means that in cod zombies, the pack a punch upgrades your gun and juggernog gives more health. and it relates to that sentence because whoever controls the MPD controls the zombies (the world) in cod zombies.
Funny how you said there was slow parts because I find their episodes very fast. Too fast. I look away from the screen for a few seconds and look back and have no idea what's going on anymore. And they had an episode a day for a week for it's premiere and I watched 3 episodes of those and I could not follow what was going on in those either. (Probably because I was half paying attention to all of them, but still). The pilot itself went from "Oh there's flying creatures, oh there's a monster, oh there's a secret library now, oh look at the shadowy creature with shiny cards" Slow down please. Just explore one at a time please
It's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks jean and Ollie are similar your like the first person to bring this up and I've been thinking it since day one!! Also I personally really like welcome to the Wayan it fills my long lost void for a mystery Esc show since gravityfalls ended
I kind of disagree. Welcome to the Wayne is in my top animated TV shows of all time. Maybe 6th or 7th. If it is a Gravity Falls "rip-off", it makes it better because Gravity Falls is my number one. That's just my opinion tho
From what I have seen so far, yes, it tries to rip of Gravity Falls, but it certainly lacks what made GF so great and that is the atmosphere and the theme of growing up and family and some actual deep mystery.
I'm so glad to find someone who think similarly to me about this show, I watched all nine episodes, and it's just really not my style. The characters are not explored enough in my opinion and the episode where Julia goes with them to the library was my favorite one, but in the next episode it didn't impact much on the main three characters. Also, I can't relate to any of the characters... I have much more to say, but many like this show and enjoy it and I'm glad most do.Because I personally think I will skip this one out.But I really have to say, except of the opening song, I really don't like the music in this show.. I love the more dramatic kind.. I guess
I disagree, there was very little I would change here, everything they put into this pilot is important, and it all tied into the main idea of finding the secret library to defeat the spy, you need to know the spy's motives and plan, enter sleepyhead, a you need to have a reason for the characters to find the spy, enter the Squidgets and Ansi's book, you want to actually know about Sleepyhead, so the ending gives you more info on what this guy does and why he's so threatening. I think everything thrown into the pilot was necessary and the show did a great job setting up for the mysteries yet to come. The only thing I can agree with here is the pacing needs work, and a little more balancing, because there are some parts that go too fast and others that drag on. So overall a good episode to a great show.
Okay so after a full season of this show, I think its really great! Although sometimes it seems a bit cliché, its still fun and that's probably the point. Too bad the show ended on its second season last week due to a bad treatment from nick
I’m still pissed about how Nick royally screwed over this show to the point where most people don’t even know what it is and the worst part is this is actually an amazing show which had so much potential
Except this is not the start of it... There's a whole six-part pilot/first episode that aired online in 2014 that does fit in the rest of the canon and it's the official start of the story.
I've watched the recent episodes and you were right on how this show would get better! This really grew on me for being a charming show and I really recommend watching all the way to the end!
Well i know I'm 5 month late but I recently watched the show and I kinda like it it has this Gravity Falls vibe you can't deny it and I'm not too fan of the artstyle but I feel there is some cool ideas, I like the "M.O.N.S.T.E.R" those hidden doors that appear randomly on the Wayne complex, the monsters design and the whole grand mystery to uncover. I also personally the fact that the timbers are pretty much already expert on the mystery solving that make us relate more to Ansi because we discover the mysteries as the same time as he did. I also like Ollie (yeah he kinda look like jean) but he's quite lovable and doesn't come off as annoying or always over the top. Overall, I feel it is underrated show but I hope it will be at least able to gain some traction and conclude on a satisfying note before getting cancelled.
Too bad it's already canceled. I was trying to give the show a chance I wasn't really sure what to expect and I didn't really love it but sometimes I end up likening shows after a handful of episodes.
I watched this pilot cause a friend made me do it and claiming "this is going to be the next gravity falls!" With for me was allready a sign that I probably will not very much like this show, or at least not care this much. Cause the recent months I noticed that people are so desperate for more gravity falls that they claim a lot of shows to be like gravity falls even thought they are clearly not. Like one of my friends said Camp Lakebottom is like Gravity falls. Or any other show with woods and monsters, but that is so not true. Gravity falls is more than just a forest and some monster, or in this case some weird (but boring) kids and monster. Honestly, the only show for me that feeled like gracity falls was the first 2 episodes of the ducktales reboot, cause it certainly had what made gravity falls what it is. Yes, monsters and mysteries are part of GF, but you know what else? Atmosphere. A certain atmosphere that no other show besides DuckTales reboot was able to pull off. Yes GF has some comedy but also a lot of other great moments. Growing up, family, dealing with the wacky world we know as reality (well and bizare stuff from time to time). Camp Lakebottom for example does not have this, it's just a generic comedy show. Even in this show I can't get any of the atmosphere that GF had. So either deal with it that GF is over and try to find enjoyement in something different, or wait for more episodes of the Ducktales reboot and hope that they are as great as the first two episodes. Otherwise stop claiming that something is like Gravity falls when it is clearly not. Otherwise you also could say some nonesense like hey ultimate spiderman is like Batman the animated series. There are superheroes and shit, that's enough to compare them, right? SOrry for the long comment/rant but it's just something that bothers me, like how can you be a GF fan but not can tell what made show as good as it was and then claim that some generic show is the same as GF?... also the animation, GF had a great animation that also helped with the atmosphere and makes it very recognizable.
Meh. This show is diet Gravity Falls to me. Nothing wrong with that. The characters designs and bright color doesn't give it a mysterious vibe. It's like they took the concept of Gravity Falls and turned it into the Spongebob version of it. Too bad it also failed to live up to "The Spongebob standard."
It seems like this show don't know if it wants to be serious with some silly quirks or completely goofy with the characters taking it ridiculously serious. It's in an awkward middle place...
certainly did, to some fans is allready known as "the next gravity falls" which honestly I find cannot be further from the truth, cause you know what the show is laking? The certain atmostphere that GF had. It was not just a show about kids fighting monsters and some 08/50 mystery but also about growing up and dealing with life and themeaning of family. Heck one of my friends compared even Camp Lakebottom with GF, like how can you even do that?
Seems like they want to cash in on the popularity of Gravity Falls, and Rick and Morty. Doesn't have much creativity to it because these cartoons have already done these stories and plots before. I'm disappointed. However; I gave this show a chance and there's something I admired about it, how the characters interact with each other.
What do you think of Welcome To The Wayne?
_It's actually a pretty good show. I really enjoy it._
Alpha Jay Show its trying to be gravity falls..
It's a very good show! I think people should check it out!

For a Nick show, the pilot is pretty alright, though one thing I gotta say is that the monster design in this episode looks like something straight out of Rick and Morty.

It's sad it is getting unnoticed cause I think I like it better than The Loud House and I'm a Loud House fan.
I’m still pissed about how Nick royally screwed over this show to the point where most people don’t even know what it is and the worst part is this is actually an amazing show which had so much potential
I totally agree with you. This was three times what the Loud House is, but it still got cancelled. Well, at least it will stay in my heart
I feel like welcome to the Wayne started off good
You sound disappointed with this show. From what I've seen, it seems alright, but not something I'd watch on a regular basis.

+Sleepy0173 Great analysis! Thank you for commenting. :D
So fun, colorful and charming.
Another gem in the Nick Quality Renaissance crown.
The art style dose look like those "Weird" shows, but I also see a dash a "Professor Layton".
So wait this was the pilot of the show? when it came on while I was babysitting a kiddo and it came on, i thought it was a later episode. That is not good.
Lot of good potential and later episodes are really good

If Wayside school and Gravity Falls combined it would be this show.

I actually really liked this show and I’m really sad it got canceled
Four Years Later, I see this cancelled series and say: I wish it could stay, it had potential. Rest in peace, Welcome to the Wayne
i haven't seen this show yet... doesn't air in my country yet...
Too bad it's already canceled. I was trying to give the show a chance I wasn't really sure what to expect and I didn't really love it but sometimes I end up likening shows after a handful of episodes.
I honestly think that this show doesn't completely know what it wants to be, but I would call it decent or ok.
_If you haven't yet, "Did Rugrats Start off Well"_
This is the only episode I've seen, and I enjoyed it, can you debrief me on what went wrong
+Dylan502123 The show seems to not do well with 22 minutes. It has so much in it but no reason to care.

So the series is basically about Louise, Jean and some random new kid. That are living in a knock off version of foster's homes.
Mate pls talk about final space if you like mystery.
Jonah's voice actor is Frylock from Aqua Teen Hunger Force XD, so I'm expecting him to start shooting laser out of his eyes lol
+Divine Emma Lol I agree

I enjoy some designs and certain character the sister is fine, ansi is ok i can deal with him but the brother i do not like him at all
Alpha Jay could you please do more Loud house episodes👌🍕🏠
Any episode would be great just one with hidden meanings like Ties that bind , No Such Luck, and Brawl in the Family
It seems like this show don't know if it wants to be serious with some silly quirks or completely goofy with the characters taking it ridiculously serious. It's in an awkward middle place...
They did not rip off Gravity falls
Why not a quick revive?
Why did he say the pack-a-punch thing?
Thats a cod zombies reference
Anyone...
