Rick, I went out to fly my Mavic Air 2 this morning and had an update for my battery! Never seen that type of update before. This was not the firmware or the DJI Fly updates I updated those earlier this week. I like the new Interface with the battery info, very nice in my opinion. I hope you are right that DJI will continue to improve and add features to the Mini. A lot of people online believe the company is reluctant to add any more features to the Mini for fear of cannibalizing sales of their more expensive products. I hope this is not true. I believe the platform is capable of additional features like zoom, yaw and tracking.
Hey, greetings Jim. Personally I feel that the DJI Corporation is solid in sales throughout the various lines of the products they sell. I hope that they will continue to "spit polish" and shine the existing contents as well as add improvements to the GPS and FPV routines. I have a pair of Minis and each one performs so close to each other's score as I come up with different ideas to try, the differences remain negligible. So that being said, I remain very interested in what DJI will send out as the next enhancements for the Mimi.
Zoom is technically a physical mechanic to the lens. The mini has a fixed lens, not a mechanical zoom lens like the Mavic Pro Zoom. You could always add digital zoom but all that means is you’re cropping in on the original recorded image which you can already do in post with the same quality as if you did it natively with the Mini. Tracking on the other hand is possible however with the lack of front facing sensors I doubt they’ll implement it for security reasons. The drone will track you in orbit mode already so there shouldn’t be any technical limitation if they chose to add this as a feature. I’m crossing my fingers for tracking (follow) mode but doubt they’d add a digital zoom unless they’re okay with a significant quality loss.
Quick plug for a couple D.V. products. Ordered and received the sun hood and the controller lanyard. Good quality products that perform really well. That, and a fair price to boot. Buy them, you won't be sorry.
The battery indicator is definitely the most important when you are flying drone. A lot of flyers are so immerse in the screen video shots and forget about the battery level especially those who fly it far far away. Gimbal adjustment is a good upgrade from DJI. It’s makes the video looks smooth when panning and pitching the camera. It’s nice that they give the flyer to adjust for smoothness level.
5:24 I agree with you, Rick. I'm in the UK and this format would be interpreted as Feet and Inches, albeit, that is an imperial measurement whereas metric is now mostly used. However, I'm sure many would prefer the digital format e.g 00:00 I certainly would.

@dronevalley, was wondering if you have posted the second video you mentioned, specific to the Air 2 feature updates? Also, do you know anything about the possibility of compatibility with DJI Goggles + Air 2? I am desperate to get back in the cockpit. :( :(
DJI Fly app froze my screen twice today. The second time the Mavic Air 2 was at nearly 300ft altitude. Luckily I still had control over the aircraft and was still able to bring it down safely. This is a good reason why one should always fly with naked eye line of sight of the aircraft. My phone is a nearly brand new Samsung Galaxy S10, which has never ever had one single issue until today. Very scary and not cool.
I did the update. I have whats called "Altitude Zone" in Fly apps Geo Zones. When the Mini reaches 98feet, it will not go any higher. In the heavily forested area, I prefer my RTH to be about 120ft. If I uncheck the sliders next to Geo Altitude zones, they recheck themselves. I'd really like a hack or work around for cautious flying over my own property? Advice?
Isn't the notation listed for the battery indicator in minutes and seconds? Based on my interaction with video editors and the photo pills app that I use, that's how time is represented
I have downloaded both the 1.1.6 and the .340 but I do not see the setting for the battery as described in this video, I don't have the small green circle on the left for L/R control, and have no gimbal update controls. I have turned off, turned on the equipment; I have checked for updates --- both say I have the latest! So just wondering if someone had some advice. My monitor is a G7 Android phone. Thanks
Hi, thanks for the informative video..question; Why i cant install DJI Fly App on my Tablet ? ( Samsung Tab A ? hope for answer..thank in advance..good day
So I take it they took out the ability to quickly see the battery voltage? I'd like to see a battery timeline like you see in the Go app. With the timeline, you can quickly see in an analog view how close you are to RTH, forced landing and assumed depleted battery. I say assumed, as I believe there's a safety margin from when the AC considers the battery to be completely empty, to when the battery is actually depleted and likely damaged.
Hi the new firmware update August 10 come out about air 2 zoom feature and safety features can you do a video and also compassion between air 2 and 2 zoom since new firmware update have come?
I have the updated DJI Fly app with the green battery circle but when I click on it all 3 parameters are set at 0. Hope DJI release a firmware update for the Mavic Mini soon so they become active.
Here is a funny story Rick you talking about return to home, when I first got my M2pro I was flying late one evening and I thought I hit RTH but the auto land button Is right by the RTH button as you know and I hit the AL button and it almost landed in my neighbor’s lake Whew I still have that footage it said unsuitable landing area and you can actually see the ripples on the water from the props on drone. Hi, thanks for the informative video..question; Why i cant install DJI Fly App on my Tablet ? ( Samsung Tab A ? hope for answer..thank in advance..good day
Lets hope with the mini firmware update sortes out the esc error, currently running older firmware.☹️
But Rick, you are the ultimate Robot
So I take it they took out the ability to quickly see the battery voltage?
I'd like to see a battery timeline like you see in the Go app. With the timeline, you can quickly see in an analog view how close you are to RTH, forced landing and assumed depleted battery. I say assumed, as I believe there's a safety margin from when the AC considers the battery to be completely empty, to when the battery is actually depleted and likely damaged.
Is not the minutes and seconds indicator in Lat and Long language and notation (I'm a sailor)?
Will the Spark be added to the DJI Fly app
Hi the new firmware update August 10 come out about air 2 zoom feature and safety features can you do a video and also compassion between air 2 and 2 zoom since new firmware update have come?
Love the battery notification nice and bright, everyone was upset before because it was to white and bright. Yeah you can't please everyone i guess.
Do u think dji will make a update with the smart controler rick?
The battery indicator needs to show the flight time as it did before...
Is that not the time remaining shown next to it?
@@mrmessy7334 Not the "remaining flight time", but the time for this flight.
@@garyr4047 Fair enough
Looking for you to come up with dumb battery so when you have your batter out and storied in bag you can plug the battery compartment
I have the updated DJI Fly app with the green battery circle but when I click on it all 3 parameters are set at 0. Hope DJI release a firmware update for the Mavic Mini soon so they become active.
Awesome 👍
Here is a funny story Rick you talking about return to home, when I first got my M2pro I was flying late one evening and I thought I hit RTH but the auto land button Is right by the RTH button as you know and I hit the AL button and it almost landed in my neighbor’s lake Whew I still have that footage it said unsuitable landing area and you can actually see the ripples on the water from the props on drone.
I Love your channel and this is a great review 👍
I would like to see Zoom in single shot settings for both I have both drones.
Thanks for this video Rick - it looks like they took away the total flight time. Do we have a workaround for this?
Noticed this too!
I was going to ask the same question. I like the new percentage, but miss looking at the end of a flight as to how much time I spent in the air.
Full screen mode dji pls!
