I cried whilst looking at the video. Same sad story. Life is never easy for an immigrant. My grandfather, age 20, left his village of Bhauraha, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh in 1888 for the unknown. After sailing for 6 months in ship Sheila, he landed on the shores of Guyana, South America. He was placed on 5years indentureship to work in sugar plantation. They suffered, maltreated, many died. He survived and later loved Guyana, married, had 5 sons and 1 daughter. He died at age 96, always wanted to back to India. Similarly, I left Guyana, at age 25 for the United States because of political injustice...racism, discrimination, bigotry against East Indians. Life was hard. Many challenges to face...climate, culture, food etc. I worked all shifts...never know whether it was day or night. Had no family when I came, but people were kind. I survived too. Went back to school. Got degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics. Had good job, just retired with great benefits. Grateful. God is merciful. I mantained my religion, my culture and heritage. God bless America.
People in Guyana have preserved the indian culture more than the people in india, how hard it must have been under such hardships but keeping the roots alive really amazing 🙏🙏

Yes Whipped.!! The British B___________s !! {Wish i was a Superman and appeared there for them. } That would be pleasant side of their History. {smile}. Anyway my GrandFather did his bit. He was a 6 footer Punjabi and a Roughian. Once he was digging a ditch and a Marshall on Horse back for some reason whipped him. He grabbed the whip and pulled causing him to fall from horse into the ditch. Then he beat the S___ out of him. On another occasion A Marshall went to his house and complained about him not Branding his Cattle. Do'nt know details but He tied the Marshall to the tree heated {red hot} the brand and branded him on his body . !! Yes my dad and uncles told us. P.S. They were also kicked by hateful anti Indian "Call Numbers" over petty matters.

The title is fundamentally wrong; in Fiji we speak a variant of Hindi, derived mainly from Awadhi with bits of Bhojpuri to form the language we call Fiji Hindustani.
The title is that of the Channel and not of any particular video. The channel aims to present videos in Hindi including the Girmit history, interviews, literary works in Hindi, and Hindi in various genres. In Fiji we speak both the standard form of Hindi and the colloquial form as appropriate. Standard Hindi is taught in schools and is the chosen language for most on formal occasions. The videos will be presented in the form suitable to its content. The Channel also aims to present Fiji's stories to the world, therefore would maintain standard Hindi for presentation.
Fiji hindi sucks it doesn’t have feelings.. these older gentleman speaking rt here has more feelings in his words this is Awadhi and bhojpuri but the new generation Fiji Hindi is horrible with no feelings it’s embarrassing Don’t promote that.
@@HindiinFiji ur doin a great job these young gen that’s advocating for for Fiji Hindi to me, it’s ridiculous. I am a Fiji Indian and I don’t approve of this movement it sounds like a copout for these kids not to learn Hindi in school and speak elegantly..
Thank you so much. I understand that if you want to dry up a river, just block its source. Similarly if you want to ruin a culture, disconnect it's language with the source (standard Hindi). Standard Hindi connects us to a vast ocean of knowledge, literature, philosophies, thoughts, history only to enrich us as humans. Why deprive ourselves of the richness and restrict our growth. By the way, no one advocates replacing standard English in schools with Fiji English.
I really hate the way that fools asking questions like very rudely it sounds really irritating the way you treat them and asking questions as if they have committed any crime.

They would hide the cigars in their under pants which was loin clothes. { no Bonds under pants then} .The Culumbarr's would indiscriminately search them for cigars.Anyone caught was Whipped.
Thank you for sharing all the information... Loved what your grandfather did. Great 🙏

If you can get hold of the oldest version of your father's birth certificate, you may find some details in there. Also talk to elders in the family if they remember anything. If your father was born after 1918, you may find some information at the National Archives.
His father probably came from either Bihar or Uttar Pradesh that’s where most Indo-Fijians trace back their roots to
Your comment made me realize I hadn't mentioned the name of the state. Thanks. It's Uttar Pradesh.
Yes and The Language of Bihar { Bihari} and U.P. {Awadi} makes Fiji Hindi. They were in the majority. Only Hindi is taught in Fiji schools. Thus Tamils , Keralates {mayalum}
Gujraties, and Punjabies learnt Hindi . Bihari and Awadi is close to Hindi .Thus all picked Fiji Hindi.

Hello. I am wondering if this website can cater for searches starting with the letter "S"?
I'm told the National Archives is working on the list with names starting from N till Z. However, if you have the ship name and arrival date, you may be able to do the search for the pass as most of them are arranged in alphabetical order. The passes are all available on the site, though I've come across instances where some are missing.

The title is fundamentally wrong; in Fiji we speak a variant of Hindi, derived mainly from Awadhi with bits of Bhojpuri to form the language we call Fiji Hindustani.
ruclips.net/video/0uhossX4UXs/видео.html
