    In today's video: Restoring a Rare $17,000 Mid Century Modern Burlwood Desk by Hand, we embark on a beautiful journey as we bring life back to a rare and valuable mid-century modern burlwood desk originally made by Eppinger Furniture in the 1960s. This desk features a stainless steel exterior base which gives the illusion of an invisible base and a floating desk at some angles.
    This captivating 14-minute video is comprised of nearly a 2 month long process between driving over 1,500 miles round trip to pick up the desk, putting together a game plan for restoring it, sending the steel plates off to a shop for refinishing and getting new keys made for the old locks on this desk. Finally I performed the restoration, filming and editing of the video myself making this a very rewarding experience.
    I hope you all enjoy!
    Witness the transformation of this rare piece from damaged metal base and chemical marks dripping down the sides, to a stunning result.
    Welcome to my channel - The ultimate destination for Furniture Restoration, Refinishing and DIY Furniture Help.

      Thank you for the feedback! I'm thrilled to hear you're interested in the stories behind the Mid-Century Modern pieces I work on. Longer videos and more restoration content are on my radar, and your encouragement motivates me even more. Stay tuned for more in-depth videos in the near future. I'm working behind the scenes on a restoration system / course / community build right now. So that's where a lot of my time is allocated at the moment, but I look forward to producing more content here in general moving forward :)

    Bravo!! What a unique beauty. Your craftsmanship is so detailed and patiently done to get it precise. I love burled wood. It is has its natural, beautiful, unique design. The steele plates really brings it to life. Thank you for the step by step process explanation. It is a work of art. I caught myself several times with my mouth opened. Just a stunning piece and unique. ❤

      Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that you appreciate the craftsmanship and detail that went into this piece. Burled wood indeed possesses a natural, captivating beauty, and I'm glad you enjoyed the unique design it brings to the forefront. It's pretty wild how the steel plates really make it look invisible at certain angles.
      I'm delighted that you found the step-by-step process explanation helpful. It's always my goal to share the passion and dedication that goes into my work, and I'm honored that it resonated with you.
      Your kind words truly inspire me and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my creative journey with individuals like yourself who appreciate the artistry behind it. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, and I'm touched that my work could elicit such a positive reaction. ❤️

    This restoration is an absolutely excellent example of what a restoration should be. Taking care to save what can be saved and keeping true to the original look.
    However, I hope that I can add a few comments of constructive critisism. As a hobby photographer I was puzzled with the colors that seem a bit off (yellowish, devoid of warmth) and somehow the resolution seems low. However, after looking through the video a few times I am fairly certain that I would suggest upgrading the lights for your studio. There is alot of noise in the photos on your website and in the video which steems from shooting at too high ISO. Perhabs consider staying within the native ISO of your camera (this is model specific and can be looked up) and upgrading your studio lights (or just adding more). In addition to this, I would consider applying a different filter in post production and if you are not using filters you can safely start doing so if you shoot with the same color settings every time since the light will also not change between videos. This should be easily done and can give your video and photos tha warm glow that they deserve.
    It is very clear that you know how to edit and put together a great video and your skill in restoration is evidently excellent. Tinkering a bit with your setup from a photography/videography perspective might just get your videos and photos to that next level.
    All the best, I hope to see more great content from you!

    • @frederikforsberg
      @frederikforsberg 8 месяцев назад

      To elaborate on the use of filters - studio lights with a white cool glow (e.g. kelvin 6-7000) are great for making a video or taking a photograph since you retain as much color information as possible and its easier to edit efterwards. However, it can be an advantage to edit it in a warmer tone to exhibit how a piece of furniture might look in natural settings with indoor lights etc.
      Anyway, great job on the video (and the restoration)!

      Hi Frederik, thanks for the compliments and for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment with offering constructive criticism. I think you've made a lot of wonderful points. This was my second attempt at really "going for it" on a long form youtube video, so while I'm really happy with the results overall, to your point, I definitely can dial in a lot of the details such as lighting, settings etc. It is a new camera to me and so I am definitely still needing to dial things in to have a more cohesive visual from start to finish.
      I will definitely take your points and thoughts into consideration as I go to produce my next one.
      Again, thank you for taking the time to leave this. I agree that these improvements will help take my vids to the next level 🙌.
      Thanks for being here and nice to meet you.
      Hope to see you around in the future here.
      All the best,

      Hey man, i made it to your video. Epic thumbnail 😅. Yea i agree, if you added a voiceover telling us what you are doing, what wood its made of, how old it is, possibly who it belongs to, and the process you are doing and why you do it like that, also what is the best advice you can give us if we wanted to do this kind of thing. That would of elevated the video even more. Im not too sure but i THINK its possibl to add th voicover after posting.

      @revisionfurniture  9 месяцев назад

      Right on, @@Dman_Da_Goat Thank you for taking the time to come over to my channel and give this a watch and for all of the feedback. Really appreciate it. I'll look into the post edit. I'm not aware of that tool existing, but I will look. Those are some great points I'll make note of. I definitely purposefully wanted to experiment with this video in doing just sights and sounds of the restoration process without voiceover to see what my results would be since I've studied many other channels and have found others have had great success just doing asmr.
      But in an effort to elevate and really help the audience, I'll continue to experiment on future vids. Thanks again for your feedback and comment!
