I unapologetically watched this show all the way through multiple times In a single weekend. Exactly! Like there are so many hetero feel-good romance movies, but all the ones about gay love always have to be about addiction and rape and depression etc. And while those are real things that need to be talked about, I think it is so important to also say "hey, gay people can have happiness too".

22:43 Katya is so genuine when she talks about their romance being age appropriate here that you can sorta see some anger in her face, and I get the feeling it comes from the fact that much of what we see nowadays in teenage coming-of-age movies and series is overwhelmingly sexual and they end up missing the point. A lot of us didn’t get to experience this kind of romance when we were teenagers because being gay was so taboo and when we turned to entertainment they would only show steeyotypical caracters who only represented a small chunck of our community. A lot of us didn’t believe we could have this type of romance in our lives. I think that’s one of the main reasons this show was so successful. It shows pure, innocent romance between two young men without neglecting the hardships that queer people have to go through for not being heteronormative. Truly, this plot and storytelling were incredibly well done and I think we can all tell from the way these two were reacting to the show. ♥️
All the apologising is a very accurate depiction of what it's like to be British. That wasn't exaggerated. It's really what we do. If someone walks into you then you apologise🤷🏻♀️
Ditto in Ireland, except one thing I think Americans don’t realize is how aggressive a “sorry” can be when utilized correctly. The full extent of its power is staggering
This episode had everything: • Trixie speaking yet another Princess Switch movie into existence • Katya in abject agony as Nick hugs Charlie • "Aaah, doesn't this feel great?" • Trixie, barely restraining herself from snapping Katya's neck from distress • [Blonde women in unison]
I love that at 18:36 the subtitles refer Trixie as “Blonde Woman in Succession” That’s a Christmas miracle for non native English speakers so you’re welcome people.
A quick note because you say you are a non-native English speaker: It says "blonde women in succession". "Women" (with an "e") refers to both Trixie and Katya (woman with an "a" is the singular), "in succession" means one after the other. So Trixie says "Now" and then Katya immediately says "Now" afterwards, the short way to note this is to write "in succession" in the subtitles. I saw another comment thinking this is referring to the TV show Succession, so I hope this helps clarify! :)
Those who are offended by Trixie being "too negative" must be new fan of hers. Like if you follow Trixie for years, you know that being sweet and romantic are NOT on her DNA. Katya though being invested is something I didn't expect HAHAHAHA
That is the part of Trixie I find most relatable tbh. Like when she talks about her boyfriend and says things like "he's the person I love more in the world but I don't want to see him everyday", I feel like finally someone gets me.
I love it when one minute Trixie acted so over the slow-burn romance then a minute later she stood up and dance all happily to Charlie and Nick kissing in the rain
I understand what Trixie says about it being very cheesy but I think that's what I love it about it what makes it so important to me. The queer community rarely get just a cheesy love story, and as a teenager myself to have one that relates so closely to my life is really meaningful. Seeing a gay relationship that doesn't end in horrible realities, but just a wholesome sweet love story really restores a sense of hope that doesn't come with being queer even in 2022.
I agree. I grew up with the angst and tragic stories, that it was sort of hard to picture a healthy relationship, but Heartstopper is super cheesy but it’s what breaks that perception for me
i watched this with my Nana to gauge what her reaction might be to me coming out, she wanted to binge it and is so exited for the next season, I of course came out to her and she was so lovely. I fucken love my Nana
I really love Katya for how much she fights back against bi erasure. I really can’t put into words how much it means to me to have my identity accepted by a gay person. I am a B and an LGT ally, but some of the most hurtful shit I’ve ever been told about my sexuality came from Ls and Gs, so this really makes my heart happy.
Trust me as a gay guy being bisexual is totally a real and valid things. Whoever gives you shit can hopefully eat shit if they ever eat ass again. Again accidents happen so I hope they sufferrrr 🥸😡
I think it comes from the odd persistent insistence that ppl must always "choose a side".. there's always been so little respect for anyone who's of the "..why not ~both?" mindset across all facets of life & it seems that majority is always just so adamant about forcing choices that they instinctively BULLY ppl to fit in their idea of how it shd be even when it makes them end up being so hypocritical.. if only they could all just be more openminded & empathetic! as a bi-romantic ace who's also somewhat nonbinary, I'd never felt "gay" enough to use any of the ~usual terms.. but nowadays I think "queer" covers it all rather nicely ♡
It's not right but I hope you understand where it comes from. I really don't feel like getting into it but I will trust you think about it. I am not saying to accept it. I am not saying it is fine. It is not fine to do to our community what others do to us. I just hope you understand the 'hate' comes from hurt. I use quotations because it is more complicated than that.
Katya's comment about gay teen romance done right was such true tea. Heartstopper is SO important for the gay teens today. I would've been so happy to have something like this when I was their age, it would've saved me from a lot of gay teen heartbreak and self-loathing.
32:29 no but I completely relate with Nick. I’ve personally “discovered” that homosexuality was a thing on wattpad and I was reading EVERYTHING about different sexualities to understand mine. so yeah queens, most gen z really did those researches 😭😭

The writer of heart stopper is my age- so she’s like on the cusp of millennials and gen z. The whole Googling anything to do with gay stuff was 100% us lmao. GenZ may have more visibility on schooling of types of sexualities but we sure as fuck didn’t lmao
even knowing what gay is i also was googling to check when i was in figuring that out faze (it was also googlin about bisexual and asexual) we know that there is a lot about it on the internet, to find some represantation etc, at school still zero sexed
Im between gen z and millenial, still millennial. I didn't do "Am I gay?" quiz cause quiz like that wasn't really a thing back then. Even more so, I live in third world country where internet trend is a bit behind. I DID google stuff like "what is homosexual" to better understand myself 😂 but yes, I've heard that am i gay quiz was a thing for the generation after me 🔥
Kids just want some type of confirmation I won't be surprised even if they still take those quizes even now. Cause the default since the moment you are born is straight and once you realise you aren't feeling the same as the people around you then you gonna have to want some type of confirmation without fear of judgement and you have Google for that
This show made me tear up consistently. I WISHED I had at least 10% of this experience growing as a teen in the late 90s/early 2000s. Absolutely loved this show.
I'm gen z and I googled all of that at some point because we didn't learn shit about it in school and I wondered what all those terms meant. I finally realised I'm bi when I was 19 after mulling it over in my head on and off for roughly two years. And the number of times I googled "bisexuality" is wild. Nick was much more straight forward with that then I was. Especially since I wasn't actually attracted to anyone until I was 17. Being bi can be so confusing. I'm certain that I am not the only one who struggles with gatekeeping themselves. There are times I think I'm fooling myself and that I'm actually straight and then there are times when I think I'm fooling myself and that I'm actually a lesbian. So yeah the googleing is very authentic. Especially for a bi, pan, or omni person.
Oooo yeah. And as a girl, reading about comphet was a trip too. Thinking I was actually a lesbian just lying to myself, while I'm actually really pan 😮💨 AND understanding that comphet is still very real for all wlw people anyways!
@@Diegotheparrot Omni- and pansexuality lie on the same spectrum as bisexuality. Bi means attraction to 2 or more genders (can be all of them but doesn't have to). Pan means attraction regardless of gender so gender plays no role in attraction at all. Omni means attraction to all genders but gender does play a role in that attraction (like a gender preference or the attraction may feel different depending on gender). I hope that helped.

The reaction to the “Am I gay?” quiz googling is perfect bc it’s simultaneously such an extremely real moment that a ton of (often but not exclusively) younger queer people, but also so funny to look back on. In my experience, nobody’s taking them bc they’re unsure, they’re taking them bc they want some external validation and/or someone else to tell you that you aren’t.
I really loved watching Heartstopper. Too many teen dramas are sexualized, and as an adult, I just can't get into that stuff. This was a very wholesome show that was sweet, and I couldn't stop watching!
@@sstephens630 i rlly dont think thats the case, i think people r definitely getting pregnant later but ive known people who were like 13 and 14 losing their virginity
I love how sweet and wholesome Heartstopper is, yet it raises so many poignant issues that queer teens have to navigate. It’s presented in a way that meant I could watch it with my 8 and 12 year old boys. I feel it’s so important that they see that sexuality isn’t necessarily something you just “know”, and that it can be a journey of discovery over time for some people. When my eldest saw Nick googling, he immediately said “that’s totally something I’d do too!”.
I was a bisexual teen before the Internet even existed! So let me just say trying to find any books in 1980s about being bi were NOT at the library. I envy the Google generation for sure. ♥

@@bonniegrrl I bet. I know someone who is trans and queer who was born in the late 80s and it was a hell of a journey. From a fellow queer to another, I hope you are doing well and and enjoying life 💟
I think with nick googling “bisexuality” it was less of him not knowing what it was and more of him wanting to look into it to see if it could in fact apply to him. Because of stereotypes and bisexual erasure, it can take a while before you realize that bisexuality applies to you even if you already know what it is. that was my exact experience. I’ve known what bisexuality is since middle school but when I was 21 I found myself googling bisexuality because I wanted to do a deeper dive into it and yep, turns out I am 100% bisexual
Exactly!!! But I think since they only watched it "briefly" that part got lost! So I don't blame them. At 16/17 you KNOW what it is, but probably not if that's you. I don't think they watch all the episodes, but parts of it.
@@AzzurroProductions that’s a good point! Given time constraints it would make sense if they skipped around! I’d be curious to hear how they approach watching these shows! :)
it makes total sense, Trixie is always the most cynical between the two (and also they needed two different viewpoints for the video otherwise it would have been boring)
The closed caption reading “[Blonde women in unison] Merry Christmas” is the Christmas present from these two biological females that I never knew I needed. LOL ❤️
i do think these two must've just had the most insane high school experience because even as someone who grew up going to school in a building being held up by toothpicks with a budget of 2 cents and a paper clip, school was never as shitty or sketchy as it's depicted in most shows like euphoria. the private school rich kids thing is still hard to relate to, but at 15, the purity and innocence of these characters, and the lack of understanding of themselves, is really real.
I find Katya’s reaction straight up ADORABLE, and I’m so happy people have enjoyed this show so much! But. I must admit, my reaction to this was more like Tracie’s! 😅
Same haha, I'm very happy for these adorable teens with their chaste kisses and tentative hand-holding, but I am 100% too aromantic to handle this show. My years as a queer teen were very different from Heartstopper. I do think it's great that there's a variety of representation out there for different types of people though
so funny how they're ripping into him googling shit, but as a bi guy that was pretty much exactly what it was like. except i didn't get the cute high school gay romance part of it
I think in the show it (can) looks like he googles WHAT bisexuality is (especially when you just watch it briefly like for this reaction) and that was her main issue. Not "Am I bisexual" but "WHAT IS bisexuality" . And he is like 17 in the show (right?) and you KNOW what it is at that point, maybe not if you are it. I think that's her main complaint :D

Sometimes it just feels good to have a wholesome, low drama, queer show like this. Is it sweet af? Sure, but man.. after dealing with so much shit in my life, it just feels good to watch a series, where everything plays out almost perfectly, with little to no complications.
Yes!! Plus if you look for it, the subtext is dark as hell.

She gets it. Katya leaning forward had me falling in love all over again.
I unapologetically watched this show all the way through multiple times In a single weekend. Its the first queer romance I've seen in idek how long that just feels nice to watch instead of the depressing doom and gloom, the heavy subjects are addressed but not in a way to take away from the nice stuff! Also the bi rep was very much appreciated

@@ineshomemcardoso hello i happened to stumble upon ur comment and hehe can i ask for ur recs?

"This is gay teen romance done right! It's sweet like it should be. Age appropriate"

All the apologising is a very accurate depiction of what it's like to be British. That wasn't exaggerated. It's really what we do. If someone walks into you then you apologise🤷🏻♀️
Right?😄 We do the same here in Canada. "Désolé, excusez-moi." "Sorry, I'm so sorry." It's pathological.😳lol

"I've never seen you lean in to a show like this" and Katya is ABSORBING, hahaha amazing.
This episode had everything:
• Trixie speaking yet another Princess Switch movie into existence
• Katya in abject agony as Nick hugs Charlie
• "Aaah, doesn't this feel great?"
• Trixie, barely restraining herself from snapping Katya's neck from distress
• [Blonde women in unison]
It's funny to me how Trixie used to rip on Katya when she got so tan years ago... and here is Trixie looking like a golden-ish goddess haha

I love that at 18:36 the subtitles refer Trixie as “Blonde Woman in Succession” That’s a Christmas miracle for non native English speakers so you’re welcome people.
Shiv Mattel or Trixie Roy
also refers to Katya as White Woman hee-hawing at some point. i lost it lol
@@ChaoticGoodDeeds thanks for clarification. i didn’t realize i’d written “woman” i wasn’t paying attention.
Not the "[Blonde Women In Unison]" at 40:19
Trixie and Katya don't understand that googling "am i gay" and "bisexual" in repeated cycles is the ultimate bisexual experience.
Those who are offended by Trixie being "too negative" must be new fan of hers. Like if you follow Trixie for years, you know that being sweet and romantic are NOT on her DNA. Katya though being invested is something I didn't expect HAHAHAHA
It’s why I’m not a fan of her. I just am such a big fan of Katya that I occasionally suffer through it.
I agree. I grew up with the angst and tragic stories, that it was sort of hard to picture a healthy relationship, but Heartstopper is super cheesy but it’s what breaks that perception for me
Growing up with stuff like prayers for Bobby and broke back mountain. This series is such a wholesome cute moment everyone deserves to have.

I think it comes from the odd persistent insistence that ppl must always "choose a side".. there's always been so little respect for anyone who's of the "..why not ~both?" mindset across all facets of life & it seems that majority is always just so adamant about forcing choices that they instinctively BULLY ppl to fit in their idea of how it shd be even when it makes them end up being so hypocritical.. if only they could all just be more openminded & empathetic!
as a bi-romantic ace who's also somewhat nonbinary, I'd never felt "gay" enough to use any of the ~usual terms.. but nowadays I think "queer" covers it all rather nicely ♡
same i love katya for that sm
It's not right but I hope you understand where it comes from. I really don't feel like getting into it but I will trust you think about it. I am not saying to accept it. I am not saying it is fine. It is not fine to do to our community what others do to us. I just hope you understand the 'hate' comes from hurt. I use quotations because it is more complicated than that.

I'm 21, so i'm a gen z, but let me tell you, 2014? I was doing all the buzzfeed "am i gay?" quizzes
Especially for a bi, pan, or omni person.
the amount that I relate to this 😭😭
Oooo yeah. And as a girl, reading about comphet was a trip too. Thinking I was actually a lesbian just lying to myself, while I'm actually really pan 😮💨
AND understanding that comphet is still very real for all wlw people anyways!
I liked your comment until I read "pan" and "omni". What even is that?
This is so relatable!

It’s presented in a way that meant I could watch it with my 8 and 12 year old boys. I think with nick googling “bisexuality” it was less of him not knowing what it was and more of him wanting to look into it to see if it could in fact apply to him. Because of stereotypes and bisexual erasure, it can take a while before you realize that bisexuality applies to you even if you already know what it is. that was my exact experience. i do think these two must've just had the most insane high school experience because even as someone who grew up going to school in a building being held up by toothpicks with a budget of 2 cents and a paper clip, school was never as shitty or sketchy as it's depicted in most shows like euphoria. the private school rich kids thing is still hard to relate to, but at 15, the purity and innocence of these characters, and the lack of understanding of themselves, is really real.
