i wish ppl would stop calling their debut cringey. we shouldn't sway others opinions in a negative direction before they get the chance to see it themselves
I always think the same thing!! Their debut is so inspiring, especially if you have been a fan of classic and then 90’s hip hop. Their practice and hard work is what shines, and you can easily overlook their lack of budget for their wardrobe.
@@SnoopyNae I dunno, just because someone is beginning to figure out their style doesn’t mean they are cringey. People have the benefit of hindsight now to try and judge their past because we see their evolution, but their debut persona fit with the hip hop theme they embodied at the time. Because they wrote their own lyrics and put their own stories and experiences into their songs we are literally experiencing their journey from youth to adulthood and the struggles and dreams that come along with the growth. I’m sorry Caitlin (and anyone else reading these many posts), but I had the same kind of experience. My family was blue collar, having painfully raised themselves out of extreme poverty and I was the first female in either of their families to graduate from high school. From the time I was eight, I had been a voracious reader and my reading led me to the dream of traveling to Europe, like so many teens were doing at that time. (1967). Given my families’ situation, in junior high (middle school), I determined that the only way I could practically achieve my dream was to become an international airline stewardess. With this goal in mind, I studied French from eighth grade until my graduation, having read that you needed a European language in order to be hired. In those years we had so called “guidance teachers”, whose job it was to “guide” us into appropriate future employment. When my guidance teacher heard my goal, he LAUGHED and informed me that I was “too intelligent” to be an airline stewardess. As you may easily imagine, this pronouncement astounded me. But I had been raised to believe that adults had ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY and ALWAYS knew better than I, so I bowed to his judgment and began to search for another, “more appropriate” (what the hell could that possibly be??!!) form of employment. Yeah. I became a lowest level accountant. Over the slow following years I took night classes at local “junior colleges” until I landed a job as a secretary in “International Marketing” at the newly financially successful Apple Computer - just two years before the introduction of the first Macintosh. My boss was a German woman who created a truly international team. Thus, when the entire International Marketing Division was transferred to Paris, on the day before my 39th birthday, I achieved my dream. Since August 1998, I have lived in Paris, France, north of Hamburg, Germany and south of Stockholm, Sweden. Never say “NO”!
Yeah, he said that, but if you listen to Taehyung about all of this hidden card, he didn't know what was going on back then, and he stay quiet and hidden from the fans, he even said he wasn't sure if he was going to debut. Can you imagine how he felt? I can't, I'm just grateful because he really made it, he worked so hard... Tae even said he wasn't dreaming of being an Idol, he just wanted to be a trainee and I think I can understand his thoughts after all what happened back then
The guy in pink tshirt you agreed with in the beginning is none other than Tablo, a legendary rapper and a member of Epik High, one of the giants in Korean music scene. Epik High have always been supportive of BTS and have received backlash for praising them and collaborating with them, but still stood by them :) If you're into hiphop, give Epik High a listen, even if it's in your own time. Tablo is a genius.
tbh i don't exactly understand when people call their debut era "cringey". like in my opinion only outfits can be called cringey but even that can be justified because it was 2013 and fashion was waaay different back then + they were low on budget and also they were still in the process of finding and expressing themselves. but all the other things - their music, lyrics, message, choreography, energy were impressive from the day one. in the end of the day it made them the artists we know today
I love their debut album. They were obviously amazing. It’s just a different sound and look than they have now. I don’t think there’s anything cringy or regrettable about it.
21:56 I really get what you're saying. I've had straight As in all my class since about 5th grade and its the only thing I know to do no matter how hard it gets. But with highschool coming to an end for me, I don't know what I want to do. I'm very thankful to their song: paradise

Love your reaction and commentary on this series, Caitlin! 💜 Eric Nam was so right about only 1% making it. The fact that BTS may be the only group left standing from their debut year 2013, with all original members intact, no lineup/label changes, still actively performing, AND beating the 7-year disbandment challenge, is such a stunning achievement. This series made by an ARMY helps ensure this is not overlooked or drowned out by the noise of global media's recent recognition of the group as artists.
Caitlin...I cannot express how happy I am that you found BTS. I really enjoy your reactions and how you have fallen in love with them as we have. I have not seen a lot of stuff that is on this documentary thank you for sharing it with us.

I read a comment one day that I think is very true... In Kpop, they don't hide the fact, they're practicing for years, everyday to become really good performers. And people from the west see that and claimed it as manifacture. But in the west, amazing singers and performers also practice for years, just people never talk about it. Nobody is borned as the best singer or performer, it's always a mix of talent and effort. And someone said, they like the fact that it's well known, in Kpop, that they practiced again and again to become this good bc it's not hypocryte like in the west. All theses famous stars in America have to practice and gathered tons of experience to become the "legendary' artists" we know them as today... But because we don't really talk about the behind of the scene hardwork, we don't see theses "trainee" who practice insanely hard as passionnated people but we see that as negativ... But it's totally normal for a sport, an athlete, to give all theirlife, starting really young to become a professionnal athelete, so why it's not as normally seen for performers, especially performers who dance hard choreo while singing. I hope it makes sense haha, I'm not so good in english and I'm not sure if I expressed this random idea well haha
Request for reacting to BTS recommended music! Hehehe thought bout it when they were mentioning their fave artists. I love their taste in music their recommendations almost always ends up in my fave playlist. I started listening to more K music because of them too! Thank you Caitlin for this! You've easily become my fave BTS reactor with your quality content! Fighting! 💪
literally when people say its cringe im like yeah i know but they made it didnt they??? they've made bangtan known around the world!!! Not all debuts are gonna be the same as their recent music, they've grown up since but still killing it!
I've been an army for a year but it was a year filled with them so I'm pretty advanced in stuff yet in this series there are vids I've never seen and it's so well put together. It's hard not to just binge it but I'll be watching it along with you!
My only regret in life is sleeping on BTS since their debut. And if there is a silver lining from COVID lockdown last year, it's discovering these guys and joining ARMY!
The more I watch the more my love and respect for them grows because they're such genuine and endearing people that it's impossible not too!! XD And I can never get over 42:21 where even though they're "bothering" suga they're still keeping a safe distance between him and them😂😂
Great reaction & commentary. I love this "Rise" series & have been telling a few other reaction channels to do it. There are not that many reactions on it, yours being one of the few. I don't know why it hasn't blown up. I think not many have yet heard of it yet, it debuted around New Years. I hope you have Chapter 3 (and the rest) reaction in the works. There is an 8th chapter that is supposed to be in the works.
I am so happy you are discovering so many things about the boys through this documentary series. It is the best I've seen on youtube, honestly. There are only three things I want to say, to keep it short. First, you can never chill with BTS, this is a fact :)) I recommend you check out Beautiful by Hobi, Jimin, Kookie, and Tae, and also I Like It, they are both amazing songs which I'm sure you'll like. And lastly, you've mentioned wanting to learn the fanchant, so here it is ''Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook, BTS!'' :)) Thank you so much for everything you do! Take care of yourself and stay safe. Borahae!
Oh man, now I’m going to have “Like” in my head all day! 😂 If you like that song, you might really enjoy their ARMYpedia performance of it! It was the first time I heard it, and I fell in love! It’s such a chill performance (they also do great versions of “No More Dream” and “Just One Day” there). Loved your reaction, I also got emotional during the JK prank - I actually cried when I saw it, and then cried again watching it with you, haha. I don’t have any kids but I feel very protective of Bangtan as if they were my children, especially Jungkook. Anyway, so jazzed that you are reacting to this series! Thank you so much.
Yoooooooooo! I am one the translators (yes the same that commented the last time). Thank you for following The Rise of Bangtan and giving it another platform!
every korean ages by one year on the first of january. so basically you just have to know their birth year to figure out their korean age. i think that's the easiest way to explain it rather than vague "1-2 two years younger". hope that helps! :)
Hey can you please react to 'blue side' by jhope.... Please!! He just released 'blue side' full version for 3rd anniversary of hope world.... Hope u notice me 💜
This is my 1st time watching this video...wow...just wow...their dedication, hardwork, profesionalism, they really are being true to themselves...the same 7 boys now all grown up...💜💜💜
You are so much fun, I’ve been saving this documentary just so I can watch it with you🤣 The chaos of BTS, they haven’t changed in 7 years, so genuine and relatable💜💜💜
I love that you react to this and it's okay if it's longer videos, i wouldn't watch it on my own so it feels like i'm watching it with a friend, so thank you ! can't wait for the other parts :)
So korean age is usually 1-2 years older than the international age. So how it works is when a baby is born that baby is already considered 1 year old and then everyone gains age only in the New Year they don't gain age in the actual birthday its just a celebration for them. For example: Taehyung was born Dec 30 1992 he was already considered 1 year old and when New Year came he is considered as 2 years old. Hope it made sense, thanks for the video😊
Making their songs personal really was the best idea. Bc I agree that their message is smt you can't help but get behind. People at that school age can relate and it hits those nostalgic feels for older gens. Also, your fangirling thru this is so relatable. And that teacher you talked about was way out of line for that comment. It's awesome you took the time to figure out what you wanted. And yeah, I felt bad about that birthday prank too. 😅 Poor JK~ I'm glad they made sure to be really affectionate when they did the reveal. And yes, JK was 15 when they debuted (and 13yo when he signed with BH!).
A lot of people discount their older stuff, but to me the music holds up. The styling is a bit cringey but that's mostly because the clothing was so cheap. The stuff they wear now is no less theatrical, it's just better made. The same with the quality of their make up and hair styling. Also they were young and inexperienced so they lacked the confidence needed to pull off that over the top styling. There's a fairly recent video of them reacting to their old selves in which they all make fun of Jimin for yelling "ayo who am I?" in 2014 but then RM says Jimin could say it now and it would work because he is cool enough now. Idk it just bothers me that people (not you, Caitlin, just people in general) criticize their start for not being polished enough when they were so young and underfunded.
I admit I wouldn't have been interested in them in their first couple of years (probably says more about me than them) but I love their early music. It's all part of the same journey to me.
Dude, if you want to hear about how crazy the music industry is/was in the US check out Lou Pearlman. He was basically behind every 90's boy band, it it's INSANE. And really messed up.
Tbh i don't undersrand when people say this cringey cause like this song is a bop and its their beginning how can u say something this amazing is cringe?? Like it honestly doesnt make sense to me if you think about 2013 the year that they debut this style was in back then like they are in style of that time if ur not really into hip hop then i kinda get why you don't like it or its cringe to you but if your a hip hop head or a rnb head like i am then this is FIRE!!!
By the way, have you taken note of how much darker their skin coloring was then? I have read (somewhere) that BTS members have also been subjected to skin lightening, which is why they are nearly always clad in t-shirts when they are filmed in videos on the beach or at a pool. Also, Namjoon was required to wear sunglasses because he really needs corrective lens, but it was feared that with regular glasses he would be considered unattractive and nerdy, but with sunglasses he would be perceived as “cool”.
I don't see anyone else commenting this, sorry if they did, but Korean age is actually 1-2 years OLDER than international age. Basically (really simplified), Koreans are born 1 year old, and then at the start of the next year, they are another year older, regardless of what day they were born. Hilariously, this means that Taehyung, born December 30, 1995, could be seen as two years old January 1, 1996. It can get a little confusing! That's why usually you'll see idols being referred to by what year they were born as opposed to their age lol
Yay, chapter 2 is here! Will be watching it for the first time with you. Can you tell I have no one to share anything BTS-related with around here? (sighs) So, thank youuu!
About the korean age system, here is how I learned about it: You take the current year subtract your birth year and add 1 to the number. So in my case it's 2021 - 1998 + 1 = 24 so in korean age I'm 24 but in international age I'm 22 because my birthday is in November. But because on New Years everyone ages one year you are the same age the whole year long and not only after your birthday. That is why your have to subtract 1 OR 2 years when jungkook said he's 17 years old. You only know if he is actually 15 or 16 when you know if he said that before or after his birthday. If that interview happend before Sep 1st 2013 he was 15 but if it was after Sep 1st 2013 then he was 16 years old. I hope my explanation makes sense... feel free to ask further questions in the comment and I'll answer of I know or if I said something incorrect please correct me. I'm not from Korea so this only researched information for me.
So, I had to laugh when you said Jin looked good from the beginning because, wasn't he recruited for that very reason? And I don't mean that as a joke or criticism of his talent. I've seen the other videos, and understand fully how hard he has worked, and how far he's come. There's something special about him and he anchors the vocal line for me. A song isn't complete for me until I hear Jin. He's not my bias on the vocal line, but he's still the one I have to hear. All that aside though, Worldwide Handsome is just that, handsome from start to finish. Just saying.💜💜💜
He literally got stopped on a sidewalk one time by tourists to take a photo with them even before joining Bighit because he's good looking. 😂 Can't relate.
@@silynita they all have their charms, but Jin keeps sneaking up on me. Maybe he’s becoming my ultimate bias wrecker? I just can’t... Somebody save me...
Kpop took a page right out of Motown's playbook. If anyone knows the history and the story of Motown then it's obvious.bMotown was a factory I should know, I'm in the Motor City.
BigHit debuted another group 6 years after BTS. Would you mind if you react to their debut? and talk about how different it was to BTS's debut. I would say that it was complete opposite to BTS' , but maybe you'll find similarities since they have the same production backing them. The group is called TXT, "Crown" is their debut song. They debuted pretty much the same age range as BTS. Btw, they are celebrating their 2nd year anniversary today
Ok so no lie, I have been trying to hold off watching episodes of this series because I like watching it with you :3

Fighting! 💪
42:20
I literally just watched this yesterday bc YT decided that they wanted to see me cry by showing me fetus Bangtan
literally when people say its cringe im like yeah i know but they made it didnt they??? they've made bangtan known around the world!!!
And if there is a silver lining from COVID lockdown last year, it's discovering these guys and joining ARMY!
we loooove long videosss yesss
The more I watch the more my love and respect for them grows because they're such genuine and endearing people that it's impossible not too!! XD
And I can never get over 42:21 where even though they're "bothering" suga they're still keeping a safe distance between him and them😂😂
Great reaction & commentary. There is an 8th chapter that is supposed to be in the works.
i didn't watch this documentary yet so i feel like waiting and watching it with you is really heartwarming thank you for joining our fandom💜💜
Borahae!
can i just say,,, you looook so beautiful!!!!! 🙌🏽😍
Omg thank you! 🥺💜
ur right jin always looks so good
Oh man, now I’m going to have “Like” in my head all day!
I absolutely love this documentary...the best series yet!!!
every korean ages by one year on the first of january. so basically you just have to know their birth year to figure out their korean age. i think that's the easiest way to explain it rather than vague "1-2 two years younger". hope that helps! :)
you should react to ‘born singer’ live 💜💜
Copyright issue on YT.
Your room looks gorgeous!! And you were always beautiful, but what a fast glow-up! Inspiring

I love your reaction, I'm your new subscriber here 💜💜💜
So korean age is usually 1-2 years older than the international age.
I love them 😌💜💜
YES! PART 2 LEZGOO
Can’t wait for next reaction 🥰💜💜👍✌️
Regards Korean age. The pregnancy is year one. At one the year of birth is counted. In USA, our 1st birthday is their 2nd bIrthday.
When I found out BTS sampled Rare Earth, I loved them even more.
J-Hope beat boxing... Gurl I think you know by now there’s nothing our Hobi cannot do... Also, pls react to RM’s speech at the UN, a must watch!
Ooh nice setup
By the way, have you taken note of how much darker their skin coloring was then? I have read (somewhere) that BTS members have also been subjected to skin lightening, which is why they are nearly always clad in t-shirts when they are filmed in videos on the beach or at a pool. Also, Namjoon was required to wear sunglasses because he really needs corrective lens, but it was feared that with regular glasses he would be considered unattractive and nerdy, but with sunglasses he would be perceived as “cool”.
I’m binging all of Caitlin’s vids and this is the first time I hear her call jimin, jimin . idk why it’s so funny to me😭😂 probably from the shock
JK and the doughnuts?
Now you can understand that scene in the Dynamite MV! 🍩
EARLYYYYY😌✋🏻
About the korean age system, here is how I learned about it:
You take the current year subtract your birth year and add 1 to the number. So in my case it's
2021 - 1998 + 1 = 24
so in korean age I'm 24 but in international age I'm 22 because my birthday is in November.
Oh, and have you noticed the “RM” cut into the side of Namjoon’s hair at the time?
BigHit debuted another group 6 years after BTS. Would you mind if you react to their debut? and talk about how different it was to BTS's debut. I would say that it was complete opposite to BTS' , but maybe you'll find similarities since they have the same production backing them. The group is called TXT, "Crown" is their debut song.
They debuted pretty much the same age range as BTS. Btw, they are celebrating their 2nd year anniversary today
12:14 wow didnt expect to see exo! I'm a new fan of theirs and I recommend the songs temp, obsession and kai mmmh
And wolf ofc
