Another BRILLIANT instructional video Roger and like you I too enjoy eating salmon and particularly enjoy the salmon patties my wife makes. I honestly believe the people who don’t like salmon mistreat their catch. My dear old Dad taught my brother and I to “respect” your catch and this will dramatically improve the quality of the catch. Thank you for sharing Roger.
Years ago caught some salmon ,fried them but never liked it at all , a year later a trip to Lake Macquarie and caught more salmon , a young fellow wanted the salmon I caught I gladly gave them to him , curiosity got me and I asked how he cooked them , he wold me cook them in milk in the fry pan , I did and wow made a huge difference ,give it a go and see if that is something you like. 👍
Another good video. We don't get salmon up here on the border but I guess tailor have the same blood on the back. So that was a good lesson, thank you. 25knot winds and 3 m swell this weekend.
i have always found that with Australian Salmon removing the bloodline isn't the important part its more looking after the fish once you have caught it, bleed/brainspike the fish and put it on ice right away. Salmon is also very very good sashimi and is really good for ceviche aswell
Interesting vlog, Roger. It's a known truth that most fish mongers prefer a stiff 6 " boning knife to fillet and process fish. It's the tackle shops who promote and try to sell those long flexible fillet knives.
great instruction and education on getting great meals without even going down the curry and fish cake routes. those offer great options of course asian style. always consider lemon or lime juice as an additive to just basic salt and pepper with ailoi of course and your tacos versions.
Anyone thinking of doing the beach worm course, I highly recommend you do get it, I couldn’t catch them at all and then first day after doing the online course I was catching them easy as
awesome tips Roger, Aussie salmon fillets in the air fryer come up excellent for me, and awesome fish burgers or sandwiches with pickles and tartare sauce...! (Spiro)
HI Roger, Re 'bleeding', I was shown a way last year that is superior to any other method with Kahawai that i have used before. Take a bucket or tub to the beach and fill it with water. When a fish is caught, nick through the vein in a couple of gill rakers and put the fish in the tub of water. It will swim and thrash in nervous response to the water and bleed out really well. Thanks for the vid. I have been making your Thai fishcakes too
Hi Roger. Really enjoying your very informative videos. What I’d like to see sometime is how you care for and store your rods and reels after use. I think this is a neglected part of fishing. My rods are still in my car from a fishing trip last Tuesday!
I might try filleting a salmon one day If one turns up as a by-catch. I used to catch them a lot when I used to go to Apollo Bay. And I found them to be barely edible cooked whole, they had an iodine kind of flavor or something, even though I bled them.
love ya work if i may, a tip I've i found on rigging worms , break a few inches off from the head thread up from the gut end first and pull the head up over the eye of the hook ,it stays on longer then fill the hook up as normally great for jew as makes the bait look bigger and lasts longer sorry about spelling and punctuation
Another great video Roger! I fished South Ballina all weekend using the information and tips I've learned watching your videos, it was a successful trip! Do you have any tips good fishing locations in that area? Be interested to see where your recommendations are. Cheers mate, Keep up the great work 👍🏼
Dave from Melbourne here. I love your videos Roger but I would love for you to do a fish on some Victorian beaches. We don't seem to get as many fish as you guys up north.
Nice one. Re: wanting suggestions, could you teach/show Alvey side casting specifically targeting whiting Roger? (I think you have one). Kind regards, Chris.
Hi Roger, great Video ! QUESTION: You said it was very important to bleed the Salmon straight away... How do you do this? Any chance of a video to show us?
Hey roger. Great video as always but i cant get any beach worms at all because i live on the west coast near perth/fremantle which also means seasonal salmon and fish are very hard to catch. I was wondering if you had ever fished anywhere else in australia to compare the abundance of fish from your beaches. Thanks for the videos man keep it up!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Can you do a video on casting distance. I find it difficult to cast out back. I use a star sinker with 2 hook set up using worms. Thanks Roger!
Another great video! Wondering which beaches you're fishing at, as my partner and i don't seem to have any luck at the locations we go to, we have spent countless hours trying different tactics without any success. Any advice on locations would be amazing (we are in the shoalhaven area)
Thought I was the only one on the planet that prefers the bigger knives for filleting! Was down your way at Wairo beach a few weeks ago and got a nice feed of fish including some salmon. Prepared them exactly as you do. First night they were fish and chips. Second night, yellow fish curry. Third night, Thai fish cakes. In a blind taste test my wife actually preferred them to the flathead for fish n chips. I'll still go with the flatties but salmon prepared properly are delicious and very versatile. Abundant too.
Hi Roger we have to catch beach worms on the 90 mile beach in Gippsland but no luck at all. Do you know if they on the beaches here. Kind regards, Geoff
Hey Geoff. Sorry you aren't having much luck. Keep trying mate. I was at Anglesea last weekend and caught heaps of fish from the beach, including a snapper.
@@grimreaper6112Aus Salmon don't have a strong taste, they're one of the most mild pelagics, the "strong/fishy" taste you're getting is Histamine because your salmon are spoilt because you didn't treat them right or process them correctly.

I also slice the fillets at an angle 5mm thick, salt, pepper, Masterfoods Moroccan seasoning, flour, beer batter. Beautiful
Sounds great!
Gosh Roger, I'm glad that you showed how to get rid of the bloodline. Much appreciate your expertise.
Very welcome Veronica.
I agree Rodger very underrated fish and prepared that way they are very nice eating 💯
Yes I agree

Lovely video Roger. Would be good to see a video of how you dispatch a catch and store it afterwards!
Good idea, I might try that next time!
Thanks Roger for the time you take to share your fishing skills. I love and wait for your videos every week.👍👍
Thanks, I appreciate that.

Hi Roger i would like more info on how to read the beach a bit, such as sand banks and troffs, love your videos i learn so much 👍
always enjoying watching your fishing videos. great work mate😁
Thanks for another great episode Roger. I'd love to learn more about beach fishing with lures also if you have time to go into that more 🙂.
Noted!
Amazing those fillets look great roger welldone .👍😀
Fantastic work my friend.

Hi Roger. Could you possibly do a video on catching whiting and herring from the rocks using squid?
Without the Aussie Salmon quite a few of my beach trips would've been 🍩🍩 Nice video mate and I'll try your tips next time I head out.
Dave from Melbourne here. I love your videos Roger but I would love for you to do a fish on some Victorian beaches. We don't seem to get as many fish as you guys up north.
Hey Roger quick question. Do you need a three-way swivel for the rig or can I use a normal one. Love the vids thanks mate
You can use a normal one, I often have.
Nice one. Re: wanting suggestions, could you teach/show Alvey side casting specifically targeting whiting Roger? (I think you have one). Kind regards, Chris.
Hi Roger i love your videos tell me how do you catch shad without a float coz we only get them if you put a float on,
Bloody nice filleting table location!!

Your best baits in W.A for Salmon would be Mulies and Squid. I generally fish in my local area but would like to explore other areas at some stage.
I fish for them in New Zealand on the fly, using small anchovy imitations. They go great guns on a lightweight rod. Best fish for a taco, by miles!
Sounds great, thanks Anthony.

I’ve fished at the exact spot in this video and…let’s say Roger is clearly far more skilled than I am
I fish all of the beaches in the Ulladulla area.
@@RogerOsborneFishing thank you!
Hi @RogerOsborneFishing, any suggestion where you fish or some good places you can share?

20:38. 2 salmon.
I cannot even catch 1 at moment off Victoria beaches
Hey Geoff. Sorry you aren't having much luck. Keep trying mate. I was at Anglesea last weekend and caught heaps of fish from the beach, including a snapper.
Another great video, thank you Roger
Very welcome
Just wondering if the kawahai are seasonal? Is there a best time to catch them, and a worst time.
This is the earliest I’ve been lol
Classic, Thanks
Hey Roger, saw you had fresh worms. Are they a bit easier to find now? I had trouble a few weeks ago. My normal spot had none!
great tasting fish when bled
Blood line or blood flesh I find gives it flavour.
Okay 😊
Is salmon worth also using as bait?
Yes, it is great bait.
How do you bleed the fish in the most effective way?
You've converted me to worms Roger. Bagged out on bream in an hour today and a 60cm Aussie salmon to finish
I just realised that Roger casts left handed but spins with right hand. I’ve never seen any one do this before.
I'm ambidextrous 😊
have you eaten it raw as shashimi?
Where is this?
can you pleas let me know about this spot
All beaches around Ulladulla NSW
@ Thank you so much
What size are those worm hooks?
Size 1 longshank
@RogerOsborneFishing thanks for the tips.
I feel like I'm well ready to catch my first fish.
Rule number? If you go beach fishing you are going to get damp/wet. Dress for it!
Why is every spot that a line hits water a complete secret? -__-
I fish most of the beaches around Ulladulla, on this occasion it was Narrawallee.
I caught a lot of salmon in my 52 years of breathing but I have never eaten one.
Dad told me at an early age they taste like shit😜
Give it a go mate 👌
In fish cakes they are great takes that strong taste away try it.
@@grimreaper6112 definitely will be processing my next Australian salmon 👍

They are brilliant tasting smoked
Best way to prepare Salmon is throw them back in the Ocean and keep fishing for some Tailor or literally anything else.
That's funny!
