Iconic Records S1 EP6 - Notorious Thugs | The Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 фев 2025
- When rap aficionados pinpoint the performance that closed the case on who’s the best MC, it’s usually Big’s verse on “Notorious Thugs.” Never did anyone fathom a New York rapper borrowing the staccato and lullaby flow of Cleveland rap group Bone Thugs N Harmony then taking it to another level.
On episode 6, Fat Joe tells that it was he who brokered the historic Bone and Biggie collab. Bone Thugs manager Steve Lobel joins us to confirm. Then Lil Cease and Layzie Bone revisit that epic studio session in California late 1996.

The Notorious B.I.G. channel is the official RUclips home of The Notorious B.I.G. featuring his catalog of official music videos. The Notorious B.I.G. is widely recognized as one of the world’s most influential rappers and has sold more than 17 million albums in the U.S. alone. Before his murder in 1997, Christopher Wallace recorded two classic albums as The Notorious B.I.G. His debut Ready to Die arrived in 1994 and helped revitalize the East Coast rap scene with massive hits like “Big Poppa” and “Juicy.” Life After Death was released in March 1997 just weeks after he was shot and killed in Los Angeles. The record topped the U.S. album charts and featured the hits “Hypnotize” and “Mo Money Mo Problems.” It remains one of the few hip-hop albums to ever achieve Diamond certification from the RIAA.

Notorious Thugs is an amazing song. The way Big switched up his style of rap, Bones coming through and smashing, and Stevie J with with that amazing beat made the song a classic.
I pray she does DMX albums next these episodes are AMAZING!!! DAMN I MISS THE 90S I was a little kid and these songs made my childhood amazing

Fact bro
You ain’t lying bruh 👌🏽
Same with the X and Jay battle on top of pool tables. Think dame said L had it
This is what I HATE about hiphop in general all these tracks hidden in vaults to be NEVER heard again.
Why create it in the 1st place, if it is never going to be seen/heard?
The best rap song ever composed, absolute perfection! BIGs verse is legendary but Bone Thugs, specifically Bizzy Bone absolutely dominated and outshined everybody with that unique voice and style. Bizzy also was the star in Thug Luv featuring Tupac. Krayzie Bone and Bizzy Bone are the most criminally underrated rappers ever imo. Bone Thugs are known for their fast harmonious flows but they are great lyricists too. Their music catalog is insane
Krazy bone’s vocals are always so much more precise than the others in the group. Melodically & rhythmically
Yeah. Krazy Bone
be locked in. 🔥
Krayzie Bone is my favorite BONE member!
Krayzie Bone is definitely☝🏽n the group 💯
for me its bizzy
While I normally agree, Layzie and Bizzy outshine him on Notorius Thugs imo
Biggest non-single of all time. No promotion, no single, no video, yet everybody and thier mother knows this song. That says something….its my favorite track of all time
Never even thought about it like that
Notorious Thugs was definitely gettin radio burn tho even if it wasn't an official single
Thats really good point thank you for pointing that out to me
Realest comment EVER!
@@MarkDonMarcko not much…not as much as a single would. Only time I ever heard it on the radio where im at was when they did a Biggie tribute hour and were playing all his hits back to back…they slipped it in and I was surprised
Coming from the Midwest (Chicago) Notorious Thugs til this day is my favorite song on the album. Even thou it's in my top 5 albums of all time it was this song that hooked me in
Between smiling and reminiscing I dropped a tear for that era of Greatness ✌🏾
Man...go head and POUR OUT A LIL LIQUOR 🥃 1 time for the 90s...it'll NEVER BE like that ever again. Those of us that were there ..know wassup! The golden era is gone BUT WE'LL KEEP IT ALIVE. LONG LIVE THE 90s 1990-1999 🎙️👑 we lived when the true legends walked the earth.
Legends for sure music never dies
Bone thugs are the GOATs! We need a episode for East 1999 Eternal!!!
That song is legendary, Stevie J did his damn thing with that beat
No beat machine...str8 instrument on these nxxxaz 😂 man let Stevie J SHINE TOO 😅
Yeah Stevie J is the unsung hero of this track... The build up to the verse and him adding and introducing new elements to the best before Bigs verse is perfection
I never in my life met someone that didn't like Notorious Thugs. It's one of my all-time favorite songs ever. The video footage of that studio session needs to be released.

Nuff heads fucked with bone in bk
I was playing Bone in the Bronx way before Big & Pac collaborated 💯
Same here in Boston….Bone Thugs got alot of luv here
bizzy took it to another level he snapped the hardest facts
I can't wait to see MORE Series On Other Albums. Keep Going Angie 👏🏽
As a day 1 BTNH fan I’ll always appreciate him showing them love. I was never as impressed as others with his verse on that song. Bizzy Bone was mythically great on it. B.I.G. is in my Top 5 DOA.
Bizzy murdered it
@@Usernotknown21 one of his most memorable verses ever.
It's not so much the bars, it's the respect for them that he went aside, having none of that, to bring something he never did. I know Biz felt that and i'm glad he put their greatness up where they should always be. I call them the composers, like Mozart. It's like beautiful church music when you hear it. We don't realize their true greatness. Samurai and Ninjas take decades to train but you could give the best rapper decades and they could never do what BTH does, period.
When is the industry gonna really give Bone Thugs thier flowers??? So underrated its not even funny…them dudes are SUPER legends
Bone Thugs (as a group and solo) have been releasing music independently for many years now. They don't get the mainstream exposure like they did in the 90's because they didn't sell their souls to the perverted music industry. All you marks want props from clueless magazine writers and meaningless "lists." Bone Thugs always had their fanbase and it continues to grow with younger fans. They play sold out shows all over without having to put out new singles.
There's always some young person under the age of 30-35 claiming Bone are underrated. When in the 90's they outsold every group and were by far the most popular rap group during that era. Every walk of life, race, sex, age range were bumping Bone Thugs.
Fans of Bone give them there flowers everyday the industry doesn't have to do it, like DJ Khalid said don't get it fucked up where you got ya style from
They got their flowers by the millions of dollars they made.
I think they were on the Drink Champs where Noriega gave them their flowers.
Yeah Bone gets snubbed a lot!
We Need A Bone Thugs Series ASAP

Everyone bangs on about BIG’s verse, but it wasn’t even the best verse on that track, the real gem was Bizzy Bone’s verse, he absolutely killed everyone else on it. Bizzy is so underrated it’s unreal. “7am woke in the morning…”
They recognize that that wasn't Big natural NY flow
Yep, bizzy had the best verse then krayzie, then biggie, then layzie.
It wasn’t because of the verse, but the way he was able to keep up with them. The fact that he was able to switch up his flow was what made it amazing. Hands down my favorite track from him.
People that make this comment missing the point
Bizzy did have the best verse. But BIG flipped it on them. That’s the point.
BIGs verse on Notorious Thugs is iconic, but the best verse is clearly Bizzy Bone. Bizzy killed that track! 🔥

I think everybody contributed equally in that song to b tht great... different flavours... each verse made me go like "WOW"... Its like making lasagna... There is pasta, sauce, beef, cheese, seasoning and the oven...
Sad they heard the song after BIG Died & two weeks after the album dropped , BIG flipped the flow something crazy! I remember me and my friends were banging that cd until it couldn’t play no more 😩💯
I literally thought I was the only one who had more than one life after death CD because of how hard I was banging that s***
Just the way this song starts is so memorable. “It’s Bone and Biggie ,Biggie…Get High,Get High”. I had just moved to LA when this album dropped and I remember listening to it when we were moving into our spot in Agoura Hills,Ca. Then listening to it in the Tahoe when we got sick of unpacking and where taking Malibu Canyon Road down to The Bu ,lol, to go get something to eat and hang out on the beach for a little bit. I remember blazing one to “Going back to Cali” down the canyon road. It seemed very fitting at the time since we were “Going back to Cali”. We also listened to this album on the way to LA from Phoenix. Damn those were such great times. Enjoy your youth youngsters!!! Enjoy that shit because it goes by so quickly.
Yeah Krayzie doesn't get enough credit for that hook. The way it builds up with the beat up to biggies verse is legendary.

As a Cleveland native. Even though Bone Thugs were already global superstars and the Pac feature had rang off. "Notorious Thugs" solidified their spot and put Cleveland, OH on the map in Hip Hop history! We felt proud. We felt seen. They rapped with the best. Like Cease said B.I.G. ain't rap with just anybody

This song will go down as one of the best collabs in hip hop history. To this day I remember the first time I heard it. Sad that they tried to sample it for the FF, what a tragedy of a song.
Angie just proved Fat Joe a exaggerater. They always always down to do song with Biggie. Glad she asked Lay and Lobel that question.
Biggest facts twister in hiphop when it comes to telling stories. Pointless to do a Fat Joe interview when it comes to hiphop history
Imo Bizzy never gets the flowers he deserves from the rest of the group. His harmony and piercing bars are the main reason Bone blew up like they did. They would never have reached those heights without Bizzy PERIOD. But they probably still would have minus any of the others. Even on Notorious Thugs, the verses that stand out the most are Biggie's and Bizzy's. Same for the song with Tupac, Bizzy and Tupac's verses stood out the most. And that's pretty much par for all of their biggest hits, Bizzy carried them whether people want to admit it or not.
Christopher Wallace certainly is one of the most talented artists I've ever heard!! I'm so glad that he's still popular until this day, and that this channel is still actively making videos about him!!
Yea & big pun .

Fat Joe has become the ambassador of old school rap. He has his hands in a lot of the GOATS hits. We are blessed he didn't spend those days all fucked up. His memory is impeccable. Big thanks to Joe for telling all the stories he has so he can make sure history is remembered correctly.
Lol fat joe a story teller
Joey and busta are the gatekeepers of the golden era of hip hop.
Bizzy bone verse is the most dangerous verse I ever heard in my life epic all the way still to this day unmatch.
This is flat out one of the 10 greatest hip hop songs ever recorded.
There is NOTHING like this song. It’s in its own lane.
It's operatic
Notorious Thugs is the best Bone Thugs collab ever. The energy, the lyrics, the beat , the chorus, the flows is just above and beyond any other BONE collaboration.
I dunno that "when I die" with terror squad was up there.
Can we please get a Bone thugs-n-harmony series going? That would be to much like right... Notorious Thugs is a Classick track... A Timeless masterpiece....The build up to Bigs verse is perfection in a bottle with Stevie J adding additional elements of the beat after each chorus line is one of the greatest build ups of any song... I absolutely loved Biggies verse.... He killed it!!!

@@Godloveszaza Fat Joe did lie, saying Bone didn’t want to do the song with Biggie because Bone had a relationship with 2Pac. The manager and Lazy Bone said that wasn’t true. They were neutral and loved both artists
Its crazy how Stevie J gets left out of these conversations
Because it was the artists who made the magic, not the piano player. They would of made a hit no matter who made a beat for them

Such An iconic track that every ny album after had to a least have one track with a regional bounce sound track on the album release
I was with my girlfriend going to get a some breakfast bagels at Einstein’s Bagels and on the radio we heard that Big was killed in LA last night. I remember the first thing my girlfriend said was “Oh no,Ms. Wallace”. My girlfriend was a only child like Big was and she was raised by her mother as well. Her father was not in her life so she felt for Ms. Wallace instantly. We moved to LA a week after Big was murdered and we went to The Peterson Museum ,not too check out the museum but to see where it happened, and I remember that there were so many flowers and candles on that corner of Wilshire and Fairfax. Big is my favorite rapper and he should of never been in LA six months after PAC was murdered. The wound of PAC dying was still fresh and even though Big had nothing to do with PAC getting shot at Quad Studios in Midtown NYC or Vegas the fucking media were the ones responsible for the West VS EAST Beef!!! The Media started the BULLSHIT when they dropped the East VS West Vibe magazine cover of Puff and Big on the cover. There wasn’t a issue between artists until after that cover dropped. RIP BIG AND PAC. TWO OF THE GREATEST TO EVER TOUCH A MICROPHONE!!!
