Ed O'Neill wasn't even a first choice for Married with Children. Now look at him now. Had a great run as Al Bundy only to be followed to be on a show with high acclaim as Modern Family. And then people forget that Katey Sagal has a resume of her own as well.. legendary, first Peggy Bundy. Then Futurama. And also, Sons of Anarchy.
There was an interview where one of the BIG shot executives said that he thought Ed would bomb and ruin the show - practically to his face! Someone, the director or somebody vouched for him.
Ed was only invited very late, because they were trying all comedic actors- but none would fit for the role. So someone from casting remembered seeing Ed in a drama, and offered to invite him in. The writers were against the idea of extending the casting to drama actors (even joked, that if this goes on- soon they will have cartoon characters reading for Al), but as soon as Ed started acting- they knew he is the one for the role.
Sophia is funny as hell. God bless all 3. Great actors, funny down to earth people. Cant believe I'd grow up and marry Al Bundy. Lmao! I laughed so hard when Katy Sugal mentioned rabbit ears. Great times.

As successful and popular as Modern Family was Married with Children just is the more classic and iconic show and Al Bundy was the much more iconic character than Jay Pritchett also Ed seems closer to his MWC family than MF although I can tell he cares for Sofia and the others too but MWC cast was his first family and the first is usually the most special. Imo Modern Family didn't utilize Ed's comic genius nearly as well as Married did.
I grew up watching Married with Children as a kid. Katey is the reason i love it when women have the big hair. Al is why i love big'uns and the nudie bar. One of the best TV dads ever.😄
I’ve been binging modern family and I grew up with married with children. It’s amazing the career he’s had. And these two great actresses. And I love that he’s dressed like that, it fits.
I saw a video a while back where David (Bud) was interviewing Ed. And he said Ed I've got to tell you I once took a p**s on your star. And Eds reaction was like it was the most natural thing for David to have said to him. The chemistry and banter between the Bundy family members on and off set is amazing. They truly are all life long friends.

This is great!
