The English one is obviously more of a cowboy, but I do love the playfulness of his Chinese VA…especially since it’s Pengbo, who also voices characters like Zhongli and Welt, so it’s cool seeing him play a different kind of character. 😆 Also Boothill’s giant “woohoo!” in Chinese plus the “baobei-er,” which sounds less cheesy than “baby” (it’s the Chinese equivalent but also means “treasure”) is a lot of fun! Even more so when you consider that the English dub replaces it with fake swears, which does feel more cowboy but removes some of the “charming rogue” energy of the original Chinese character. Japanese Boothill sounds more like an…anime gangster (but not at a serious level; more at one of those stereotypical school levels) to me? And Korean Boothill is surprisingly aggressive-maybe also a bit gangster-like, but even more exaggerated than the Japanese version, which makes it feel like he’s straying from cowboy a bit. 😅 Rather than an old west outlaw, he sounds straight-up like an insane criminal-which is a neat vibe within its own right, even if it took me by surprise haha.
I was thinking about the same thing first! But I guess these characters just have the same behavior vibe and patterns as playful and loud ones. Their voice actors are different
I am now headcanoning this takes place in the good place and Boothill can't swear because the universe simply will not let him go beyond holy forking shirtballs.
